That battery is way more interesting than the bike IMHO. For a light (3.3lb battery) build it looks like a winner.

    Sondors Fat for Winter

After 20,000+ miles of ebike use in the last 6+ years I'm selling out and getting a pre-built ebike. After ordering in late September my bike arrived the day before Thanksgiving. It was about $800 delivered to my door. It will be used as winter bike in Minnesota so it should maximum abuse...

Driverless longhaul rigs now available, well sorta

Vehicle control systems are developed more like a heart pacemaker than developed like bug-ridden consumer software. Pacemaker software saves thousands of lives and driverless trucks and cars will save many more.

Driverless longhaul rigs now available, well sorta

You can actually operate a self-driving (not driverless) truck from Daimler legally in Nevada USA. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-05-14/daimler-s-freightliner-tests-self-driving-truck-in-nevada From what I gather all major truck manufacturers are working on straight-up driverless...

I don't want to drive my car anymore

Similar story here - that happened a little over 5 years ago. We've added some kids since then, and found a burley to be a good option also for carrying groceries, tools and, of course, kids. +1 on the biking being more enjoyable than a car. :D

    Most silent geared hub motor?

Keep in mind for a rear motor, rear rack bags also provide a lot of sound damping.

Rain proofing your ebike - whos riding in the rain ?

I don't mean to press on this, let me know if this is getting annoying. I'm just curious how this is happening. ... The current on a narrow wire should only increase the temperature, which I assume is not going to be much different than being close to running engine. If it is...

Rain proofing your ebike - whos riding in the rain ?

I'm surprised you have to replace all the connectors every 2 years. Cars basically have the same exposure as ebikes with about 50 times more connectors and maybe the first connector will fail at about 10 years. Winter prep is typically not too hard, a little coverage (bags, fenders, etc)...

Rain proofing your ebike - whos riding in the rain ?

I have been using a camping dry bag or just regular bike bags for the last 5 years with very few issues. Don't worry about the motor, you will only make things worse by preventing moisture from getting out of the motor. Just make sure wires exit the motor and controller facing down. But...

Fat bike or mtn bike for Winter commute (Bafang BBS02)

In certain conditions of snow on an ebike you are basically hydroplaning at normal speeds (+5mph). In the same way that the water tension separates the tire from the road - at speed the snow separates the tire from the road. The tire has to crush the snow. Temperature, moisture content, age...

Fat bike or mtn bike for Winter commute (Bafang BBS02)

Good points chas58 - I do prefer the front hub though - I like the weight distributed more evenly. My battery is in the rear. So when I had both the battery and motor in the rear the front wheel didn't have much weight on it and it seemed to affect the performance of the studs. Also I have...

Fat bike or mtn bike for Winter commute (Bafang BBS02)

I'm guessing we have similar weather here in Minnesota - so here is my take: Winter riding is not so much the snow as the ice and potholes. Traction isn't a big issue - studs are a must have and with them it is like riding a nice gravel road (in a good way). It is the potholes and ice that...

Tesla Model "S" more details !!

It is hard not to think these hackers are running protection scams at a corporate level. Most of these hacks involve being physical access to the automobile. How is that much different than damaging the brake or throttle lines? Any way - it doesn't sound like the Gigafactory is being built by...

ice sheet losses in Greenland and Antarctica reach new highs

It is not that unusual for it to snow in Florida. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_in_Florida. Maybe this is my US-centric perspective - but the weather in the US (+south-eastern Canada) seems to have a higher deviation than other parts of the world.

    Buying a home

Last summer I sold a 3 bedroom house in MPLS within your budget. Location is key MPLS - there are definitely 3+ bed houses available, but it I'm guessing you are looking in a specific neighborhood. In MPLS in this market you will most likely pay full price. Things are moving pretty quickly...

    Build help

Oh ya, I second that maintenance on the bike is much more enjoyable to maintenance on a car. Brake job, transmission overhaul - 1000x easier on a bike. I can sit is chair and do almost everything. Jeff - 48V20Amp - seems like the battery is sized right. That is a heck of a commute, I was...

    Winterizing your ebike

With studded tires there is some vibration, but it is not bumpy. There is not really damage to the road. Roads are mostly damaged by the movement of the ground under the road under the weight of a car or other under service shifting events (frost, water, vibration).

Cost PER MILE = "real" cost?

I kept pretty good records of my ebike costs from 2010 to 2014. I still ride everywhere, but don't keep track of the costs anymore. I ended up at about 14 cents a mile total cost per mile. With the battery (first a Ping 36V-10Ahr then a 36V-15Ahr) coming out to about 4 cents per mile. This...

    Winterizing your ebike

Tahustvedt - I'm curious where your batteries from and specifically what type they are. I ride very frequently below -20C and have only seen about a 20% drop in range (Ping LiFePO4, 36Vx15 Ah). Also I have a question about the bar mitts - I have avoided them because there are certain snow...

Solar and trolling motor for sailboat

Good point, I could probably just use a Dry Bag with a roll-up opening (like this - http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12427122). My sailboat has positive buoyancy and that bag with the battery will also float so worse-comes-to-worse the battery bag won't even really...

Solar and trolling motor for sailboat

Thanks for the recommendation. I do have a extra pack to use and that looks like a much lower cost solution. I have 2 concerns about this idea. One is safety the other is environmental. If the pack (Ping 36V LifePO4) became submerged, could it start a fire or leak a caustic chemical? If it...

Build tread for a solar powered Trolling motor to move a 22' sailboat. I just need to get out of a marina. So total run time is about 20min of use. I get out about once a week. Build - 40lb trolling motor 20amphr deep cycle battery 50 Watt solar panel ... Sounds like the MotorGuide...
