    RIP trek fuel

Apparently a Trek fuel is good for 7300 miles of e-biking. At lease mine was. Last week I started hearing a strange creaking sound. It got rapidly worse until something was very obviously wrong. It was really hard to see on a visual inspection but with someone sitting on the bike I found a break...

    9C @ 2500+ watts

Thanks for all the advice. After a bit of time playing with the simulator it seems to agree with everyone. Short bursts of 2500 watts are not bad unless the speed of the motor is really low such as climbing dirt hills. In my particular use I cruise at 150-300 watts, unless it's a really windy...

    9C @ 2500+ watts

I am curious how many people out there are running a 9C at or above 2500 watts. Also what sort of precautions have you taken, such as temp sensors, and what sort of problems have you faced?

    Trek Fuel (RE)build thread

More Power Muahahaha, Ok so the new setup has about 800 miles on the clock (plus the original 3k at 48v 20 amps) and I have decided to up the power. I have been running at 30-35 amps. Now I am bumping it up to 40. I think this will probably be the limit for me at least for a while. The main...

    LYEN's Controller and Accessories...

I purchased the 12 fet extreem modder controller from Lyen along with the three speed switch and cruise control. All plugged in and worked flawlessly. The only chages I made were to adapt the throttle , phase and hall connectors to be the same as my ebikes controller, for easy interchange.

    Spreading the disease

Thanks for the input. Methods "wife kits" with a 2810 might be the right fit for him. I've also been looking at the area on mapmyride.com. There are some routes he could take that would add a mile to the commute but the hills are on the 9%range. The next step is a battery. I'm tempted to...

    Spreading the disease

A friend of mine is considering building an ebike to commute on. His main concern is a 12-13% grade that he will have to climb. It’s about .4 miles long then it flattens considerably. Personally it seems like a 9c 2808 or similar motor from ebikes would do the trick. I think he wants the bike to...

Hobby King LVC/HVC/PARALLEL V3.0 Design Thread (open mic)

I like the idea of integrating the lvc cut so that it goes through the board. In my application I remove the battery pack twice a day. Each time dissconnecting the lvc plug. This doesn't bother me much except that I don't really know it works unless I test it each time. What I mean is if I...

What tire pressure do you ride?

I run Michilin City (puncture resistant) 2.3" x 26" 40psi front 60 psi rear. I'm about 170. It's not harsh but like Ykick I ride a full suspension bike

Build plan: 2008 Trek Fuel EX 5.5

I have essentially the same bike http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=34773 and 3400+ miles with about 20 lbs on the seat post. Treks are tough bikes unless there was some manufacturing defect I'm pretty sure the post would fail several times over before the frame did. Anyway I...

How does this lipo set-up looks ?

You can use the simulator on ebikes.ca to get an idea of your range with no pedaling. Even light pedaling will greatly extend your range. Since you don't want to fully discharge the pack and there is some question about how many amp hours are in those 8ah pack. You should plan conservativly...

Anyone still get stuff at Radio Shack?

Ya the one near me has a decent selection of small ic parts. Its a total ripoff but if you need it that day and don't want to drive 20 miles for a resistor then it's often the only choice. Though every time I walk out of there I shake my head, wishing I just had the forthought to order from...

How does this lipo set-up looks ?

I would recommend getting a set of lvc/hvc boards from Methods, or better yet the lipo protection kit. It's about as safe as you can get with lipo IMHO.

Build plan: 2008 Trek Fuel EX 5.5

It was a noticable, not huge, improvement to take the battery off the rack and put it in the panier. So far to date, my trek fuel has felt really stable at speeds up into the high 30's but once I get into the lower 40's it's not rock solid anymore. I have a smaller frame than most so that is...

Build plan: 2008 Trek Fuel EX 5.5

I'm running on a trek fuel as well (04 ish) http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=34773 It's not ideal to have the weight up high on the back but my battery weighs about 8 lbs so It's not that bad. The bike handles it really well compared to my old hard tail. I also don't have...

    Pro's/Con's of Ampedbikes.com kits

A couple years ago when I was looking at those I was quickly advised to go for 48v since almost everyone that goes 36v soon wishes they had just a little more speed. They are nice kits but slow, which might be ok if you aren't worried about the speed. Also the lighted throttles are reportedly...

How many of you feel safe riding in a good rain?

I ride 5 days a week in the Seattle weather so rain is the norm for at least half the year. I haven't added any waterproofing at all to my bike. I do occasionally get moisture inside the CA which shows us on the inside of the clear screen, but so far no ill effects on the CA and it usually...

LVC / HVC / Parallel board run - open for suggestions

Methods, about the HVC breaker boards, is there an easy way to tell if it has tripped? It might be nice to add an led or something to indicate state. As it is my charger reads green if disconnected so if the hvc board trips it will just look like it has finished charging. I wouldn't notice...
