    Oh, and might as well mention as well that it has no pedals, and is therefore not an e-bike, but a Limited Speed Motorcycle (LSM). Essentially the same as a 50cc scooter. You'll need to register & insure it to ride it [legally].

    Your scooter is 48V with a brushed motor, 120A. No way it's going to go with 36V. In 2009, EVT switched to brushless motors, and a beefier 130A controller. I have an EVT 168 with the brushless motor. I even added a booster battery. Here's my thread, not sure if it helps with your brushed 4000...

    I paid $20 USD per cell when I ordered for AMP20M1HD-A. BMS-L4S100100-480 was $75. Assembly kit was $40. CHA-1210 charger (12v 10A) was $40. All USD.     Now I got to wire this thing up to the BMS. First I did the ends to connect to the battery. I split the 6awg silicone wire I'm using into two, then used 10awg ring terminals on each end. Then I heat-shrunk it up. Should make a decent connection.
