I have a suggestion for an experiment for you. Why don't you try storing the lithium battery internally? Mike

    Epik Whistler

Um, no Wasy, it's quite possible. Greenstuff says they had the highest LEVEL of assist, not the HIGHEST SPEED. The Whistler is capable of carrying the rider for four hours if one is travelling at less than top speed. Maybe 50 k at 15 kph. I believe you owe Greenstuff an apology. Mike

Hi Bill, Sorry I can't help with the CA mods. I'm not into making my Ebikes street-illegal. Toronto is waking up to the realization there are electrified bicycles amongst the cyclists and they aren't too happy about it. EScooter enthusiasts refer to their scooters as "EBikes" and the public...

    Had my Physical yesterday, and…

I started Windsurfing in the 70's when booms were teak and have witnessed the rise and fall of the sport. I sold boards, ran a sailing school, hosted the Canadian and North American Championships and edited the "Beginners Guide to Sailboarding" for the Canadian Yachting Association. Never have...

    Had my Physical yesterday, and…

Now you're talking! I have a 17' double ended rowing and sailing boat called a St Lawrence Skiff, designed in 1890. Five years ago I put a Torqeedo outboard on it and last week I took it out for the first time this year. The battery has not lost any capacity whatsoever! The most amazing thing...

Hi Whistlers Been a while since I started this thread and Wasy has far surpassed me in mileage and experience, but just so everyone knows, my Whistler has continued to perform faultlessly. My sister has been riding it regularly and loving it! Her previous ebike was an early Schwinn and the...

Hi Waslybrytan, I'm glad you're happy on your Epik again and I appreciate you keeping us informed about your experience. Thanks also for investigating the origins of the bike and confirming it to be Melody's Dad's original design. My apologies for suggesting otherwise. I assume you were never...

Miro, I am the OP on this thread (original poster). Did you not read my EXTENSIVE comparison at the beginning of this thread? I have already answered your questions. I own a BionX bike which is a good standard of comparison.

__________________________ I have not been able to verify ANY claims regarding the battery chemistry of the Epik. I found a picture of a Brammo electric race bike that had Leyden power decals on it, but for all I know, they were photoshopped. Brammo makes no mention of using Leyden Power...

________________________________ My 'riding experience' on the Epik has been fantastic! It exceeds the legal speedlimit, rides very well, climbs like a 'Matchless', as the Beach Boys used to sing, and looks great! In my humble opinion, the Epik looks a world better than the Optibike, which is...

______________________________ Hey miro, I'd be surprised if the Optibike was any more 'efficient' than the Epik. I, also met the owners lovely daughter, Melody, and was told about her father being the designer of the bike. I am so impressed with my Whistler I considered going into the...

Hi Wasy, Glad you're liking your Epik. I sent a pic to Epik of mine after I replaced the knobbies and added some accessories and it's posted on their web site. It's the one with the old motorcycle saddlebags. Haven't been riding it this winter so I can't update my evaluation, but sure am...

BB Direct drive motor vs. hub style motors

I have a new BionX 350 direct drive, hubmotor on a 700c road bike, and a new Epik bb geared drive MT style bike. The hubmotor makes more sense for flat ground like Florida. The Epik, with it's BB and geared drive, is better for climbing hills where the motor can spin at high rpm's with the bike...

Review: 2010 EG Milan Electric Bike

Lot's to like on this bike. Mixte style frames are making a comeback in bicycling and this is as close to a mixte framed ebike as I've seen. Problem with emixte's is the battery must be carried on the rear rack, which makes for problems with handling, ride and carrying ability. The rack looks...

    Made in Canada, eh?

Saw these ebikes at the BikeExpo last week in TO. Very impressive, but where do you ride them? They can't be legal on bike paths or bike lanes with their speed potential. Salesman said they were legal ebikes, but maybe their introduction has been delayed until their status can be clarified. I...

    Epik Whistler

Much as I'd like to keep the Epik, my sister seems to have appropriated it. She left me a text jokingly saying she'd heard I'd picked her up a new ebike. Since I'd rather see her on an ebike than her Yamaha 1100, and because her twin sister has an ebike, I took it over to her house last night to...

    Epik Whistler

Hey O, give me another day or two and I'll let you know the exact range. I'm riding with an 'air boot' cast on my foot at the moment, so I've got the assist cranked up most of the time. My numbers will be low, and atypical of what I expect to get, once I have recovered from a fractured...

Hi Rich, Ya the Bionx is direct drive and I can't hear it, at all, zero noise. I've ridden a couple of geared hubmotor production ebikes while I was shopping for the Bionx. The Pedego Interceptor and the Wisper. They were both quiet, but not silent. I'd say the sound was the equivalent of the...
