(Mis)using a Priority Current range extender: should I expect fire damage in my future?

Very interesting. I got a Current back in September and it's been great, I've ridden more in the last few months than the past several years. It really hits a nice balance between ride experience, features, quality, performance and value. I've been shopping for a friend and nicer bikes cost...

    Upgrading FETs in KT Controller

I looked at the data sheets and did have one concern. The proposed upgrade FETs have more gate capacitance and slower switching time. I'm not an EE and have no idea how sensitive the timing is in the KT controller. I suppose possible issues might be: - Possible shoot through and let the magic...

New "Lingbei MM28.250 torque sensor mid drive"

This is interesting. How is this done? That is, are the coils of wire arranged like the poles in a motor, or are they concentric to the shaft? I can see how to get power, because generator, duh, but how are they handling signal?

Has interest in ebikes increased decreased or stayed the same at your location compared to 10 years ago?

I know you hate the scooters, and I know that you are right to do so for all the reasons. But, they are really tempting, just the magic carpet aspect of standing there whisking along. I mean, kinda cool. But yeah, best I could hope for is a broken collar bone.

    List of small hatchback cars

Yes, it was the hatchback. For what it's worth, my son took driver training in a Yaris hatchback too and hated it as well. Too bad because they are kind of cute.

    List of small hatchback cars

I hated the Yaris I drove as a rental. As I remember, it did not ride well and the there was no feedback from the steering or controls so it was hard to drive smoothly. Maybe they got better, but would not look at those. Mazda 2 is something we considered before the Fit and it was OK. Mazda 3 is...

Rear Q100 on 130 mm dropout

I'm looking at a similar problem, I have a really nice 1984 steel road bike that is 126mm spaced that I want to put a Q100 into. Spreading a steel frame 3mm is not a big problem but for more than that it is better to cold set the frame and then straighten the dropouts. The issue is that if you...

    List of small hatchback cars

I have a 2013 Honda Fit. Great little car. The interior space is very flexible. When we moved my son to college he had the whole living room piled with stuff, bike, guitar, small furniture, boxes, bags, I was sure we were going to have to rent a van, but somehow went into the Fit. However, I...

    S12S vs S09 controller for a 20" folding e-bike

I think the S12S will be too much power for the Q128c. It's more for things like the BPM or the direct drive hubs. The Q128 is a small motor and is likely to overheat or damage the internal gears if run with a 35A controller. Also, the 12 FET controllers are huge and harder to mount, especially...

How much did you save driving your electric car last year?

Cool. Nice to know it works. Too bad I didn't see this a month ago, I gave away a Lenovo Android tablet that would have been good for this as part of de-Googling my life.

New "Lingbei MM28.250 torque sensor mid drive"

Well, sure, if by "look alot more like" you mean "a small circuit board with electronic thingys on it" and if by "mounted in practically the same location" you mean "in the area around the bottom bracket". However, the TSDZ2 sensor is mounted in a milled recess in the crank spindle and...

New "Lingbei MM28.250 torque sensor mid drive"

Hmm, I don't see why they would need to, STM32 at 48Mhz is probably fast enough to do real FOC. Someone should look inside and count the current sensors. If they sense more than one phase it is probably not the same as our STM8 technique.

How much did you save driving your electric car last year?

Another alternative is to see if you can read the CAN bus and find the data you want there. Since that is a fairly rare car it may be hard to find the information to decode it though.

How much did you save driving your electric car last year?

It helps that the Spark EV is a small narrow car so the frontal area is not large. It also helped that the wind, temperature, and traffic all cooperated. We sometimes see 5.1 around town, but it was pretty exciting to see it hour after hour on the highway. The cycle analyst idea in the i-miev...

thinking about buying a scooter need advice

I'd avoid that particular scooter for a number of reasons: - Lead acid batteries are poor performers for this application - Lead acid batteries are very heavy, three of them will be 20 lbs or more just for the battery, the whole scooter is probably 50 lbs. - The bulky batteries under the foot...

How much did you save driving your electric car last year?

I agree freeways are range killers. But, if you limit your speed and do a little light drafting and don't hit headwinds you can do pretty well. I just drove our Spark EV from East Oakland to Gurneville and back, 178 miles round trip mainly on 580 and 101 and averaged 5.1 miles per kwh. Setting...

Who here has/uses a Spoke Tension Meter?

Oh yes. I just finished a wheel a couple days ago and when I spin it in the stand the dial indicator needle just sits there dead except for a little blip at the rim joint. I'm so pleased with this that I haven't taken the wheel out of the stand yet.

KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW)

Nice! I guess I need to hurry up or you will invent Modbus independently ;-) This is similar to what I'm working on, but in a more standardized way. But don't let me get in the way, we can merge later. The Modbus packet format is roughly <slave id> <function code> <register number> <data> ...

Who here has/uses a Spoke Tension Meter?

I have the Park TM-1. It works well, but the Xtools actually looks nicer. The main problem I have with the Park is that it needs a fair amount of exposed spoke. I can just barely get it to work building a small geared hub motor into a 20" wheel. A smaller wheel or a larger motor would not leave...

    Xaomi controller circuit

Sounds like fun. If I was doing it I'd try my new Rigol oscilloscope to see what the signal looked like. Possibly it could even decode it as it supposedly can decode spi/i2c/serial bit streams. Haven't tried it yet. If I did not have a scope, I'd try a serial term, but I doubt this will really...

What causes a rim to crack or split on a rear hub motor?

Keep practicing and read or re-read Sheldon Browns wheel building page: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/wheelbuild.html. The bit about pre-stressing is key. Patience helps when truing. I've been building my own wheels for a long time but I finally stepped up and bought the Park spoke tension guage...

How much did you save driving your electric car last year?

Spark EV is rated at 4.4 miles/kwh, but we usually do better except on cold days. This summer we have been averaging 4.7 miles/kwh.

How much did you save driving your electric car last year?

I was answering the question asked by the OP "how much did you save last year?". To address some of your questions: We leased a 2014 Spark EV before buying the 2016 Spark EV. We had a 1994 Accord (DX, manual) with over 250,000 miles on it that we sold to the Bay Area Air Quality District to be...
