Overcharged 18650 battery pack - now what

How did you go with bank #3? Was it only a couple of cells that had issues, were the rest OK?

    Solar charging lithium ion cells

Great advice, thank you. I was tending more towards cheaper than efficient at this stage, and am really only considering doing it because I already have the cells. When calculating I often halve the numbers on offer, so the 10w panel becomes 5, 3Ah cells become 1.5, etc. I like the idea...

    Solar charging lithium ion cells

Hi, I need some lighting for my workbench and want to make something myself. I have some spare lithium ion 18650 cells and want to use them to power some chip LEDs, but use a solar panel to charge the batteries. I've done a lot of research myself and asked questions, but haven't been able to...

Posted the bike for sale  Would like to see it go as a package, but would split it if it all goes at once.

    Rutiger Giant build - Brisbane

Hey John, The batteries are great, had no issues with them, apart from a few "learning" incidents resulted in a couple of melted plugs. I personally series, then parallel, because I found it easier to plus the ground and active wires together on 3 batteries, and then plug all the series'...

    Aussie, Brisbane & goldcoast people

Hopefully everyone is already aware of the massive increase in police presence that is occurring in Brisbane at the moment and especially next week. Might be a good idea for anyone who commutes with a custom electric bicycle to give it a miss, next week especially. Wouldn't want anyone to get a...

    Rutiger Giant build - Brisbane

Thanks for the link, makes sense why it's doing what it's doing. I'll just have to get it lined up on a few of the rear cogs and only use those gears. Maybe I can just use two on the back and two in the front to give me enough range to pedal at various speeds. Thanks again, stay in touch...

    Rutiger Giant build - Brisbane

Hey mate, hope everything is going well at your place. Hope everyone is healthy and well. I haven't ridden for a while because I have been sick, and now even though I'm OK, I still have a coughing fit with the slightest of exercise, so I'm waiting for that to disappear before riding again. I...

Thanks, the tyres are hookworms. Very comfy and awesome for street riding. Thanks for letting me know about the cell alarms, too. I haven't been using them while riding.

Jamis Dakar XLT 10T MAC 64v

I'd forgotten you had shown me about this, I'll need to have a look at mine, because it's not working so well with the new shifter. Bike is looking great, that mount is awesome, so solid!

Hey, do you have any pics? I still need some for my bike, but it is proving difficult to find something suitable.

Fair enough. If you were in the bike lane, I would have taken their details and spoken to police about the incident.

Sucks to hear about the accident, I hope the battery box is the only damage to the bike and kit, and that you heal quickly. You must have been going quick to flip right over the door. If you're going to do dangerous stuff on the bike like lane splitting (that isn't legal) you need to be...

Coming along nicely there. You may want to label the JST-XH plugs in your 14s balance adapter, just in case the wrong order will cause smoke to appear.

Next on the to do list: work out why my brakes are shit tighten the head stem bearings, it's a bit wobbly replace a jst-xh plug I broke off and work out what I did wrong with the 3x 4s to 2x 6s balance lead (for balancing 4s @ 12s on the hyperion 1420) After that's done, I'll have a pretty damn...

    Rutiger Giant build - Brisbane

Must be time for an update! I spent time, on and off, for several weeks trying to get the cells in my bricks balanced, until I realised that my Hyperion 1420i charger somehow mis-reads the voltage on cell 2 on both A and B connections. So I ended up charging them all up to 90% TCS and letting...

    Ebrake or no?

Hardly, an ICE doesn't need to cut out, it will slow you down with engine braking just by backing off.

    Hyperion EOS 1420i NET3 14s Balance Charger...

While it's in the right voltage range, you're not going to be able to charge very fast (or maybe not at all) with a 25w/1.1A PSU. Mine is 24v and capable of maxing out at 70A, or basically 1600/1700w. I'm guessing you would need something around 24v and 800w to run the 1420 charger at full...

    Hyperion EOS 1420i NET3 14s Balance Charger...

Thanks, Wes. That all makes sense, it's just that the lowest cell voltage that doesn't have the flashing dot next to it still drops in voltage slowly. Guess it will take a few days to balance a 30Ah 12s pack for the first time.

    Hyperion EOS 1420i NET3 14s Balance Charger...

I'm trying to balance my bricks for the first time and it might be doing something a bit weird. It is currently showing the cells as 3.98 3.92 3.98 3.97 My understanding of balancing would be that it drops the higher cells down to match the lowest one? But it seems to be dropping all 4 cells...

    Rutiger Giant build - Brisbane

Thanks, those plugs look pretty easy. Mine is all set up with JST-XH plugs now. I spent hours designing and hours soldering together a big lead to convert 12s 6p (of 4s bricks) to fit into 2x6s on the Hyperion 1420 charger, so unless something melts a lot of wires and plugs, like what happened...
