Thank, LR, but I don't have any problems with my kit. Health reasons kept me out of the game for the last few years. In catching up with the thread, I was amazed at the progress you have made on the kit. I just need to re-think what I was going to do with the kit and my fat bike. With your...

I've been out of commission, as far as ebikes are concerned, for a couple of years. In returning to this thread, I am amazed at the progress made on the LR mid-drive! It's almost a new kit, and it is gorgeous! I got one of the first Big Block kits for my fat bike, but have not been able to...

Add a little bit of hydraulics and you'll have a mid-drive dump truck!

Sorry, that was a really bad representation for the e-bike community. The road display was somewhat hazardous, but you were the one vulnerable there. It was the shots of you riding through a park and on sidewalks at motorcycle speeds that got to me. Please take that kind of riding to a safer...

After a lengthy delay, I'm back building my fatbike hill-climber. Got the Big Block kit, but don't anticipate running it beyond 2kW. I'm willing to give up the front and rear gearing if I could find the appropriate IGH. (My friend owns an Optibike with the 14-speed Rohloff hub, but never uses...

LR - Would the planetary be sufficient for mountain biking? Not too extreme, but lots of long pulls. I'm guessing not, because the reduction seems a bit light. I have a friend who wants to get back into mountain biking with his wife, and this kit might be appropriate for them.

Preaching to the choir, LR. I think everyone on this thread likes to tinker. Our first desire on seeing something new is wanting to take it apart.

Has anyone used one of the Sturmy-Archer 5-speed hubs? I believe they are used for heaver contrivances. A quick look didn't give me torque-handling specs.

Better check out a wire gauge table before proceeding. 80 amps requires a 6-8 awg wire, depending on the run length; phase wires are usually around 12 awg, although I don't know the specs for LR's motor. Please re-evaluate the cabling for your system if you are intent on running high amps/low...

"The Tardis" - classic! Nice looking build. Does the rack-mounted battery pack throw off your handling, any? I'm trying to figure out where to squeeze my pack in.

OMG! A courthouse! And you're carrying a large bag with wires dangling out. Good luck explaining that to security. But most courthouses have storage areas - maybe something in the back? You can't be the only one commuting on a bike.

Totally agree. I used to spend a little over $5 a day commuting (just on gas.) On the e-bike, it's about 5 cents worth of electricity. (I recharge at work.) And I get exercise. But $5.50 a day to park? Seems a bit high. However, you are saving wear-and-tear on your auto, plus reaping all...

I agree with izeman - a thief won't bother to disassemble the drive; they'll just rip the bike. If your employer won't allow bikes in the office (not very progressive), is there a parking garage nearby that has enclosed bike parking? e-bikes are the best thing for commuting since the bus was...

Better idea: don't park on the street. I commute to work on my e-bike, and my employer is happy to let me park the bike in my office. Bikes don't last half a day on the street in San Francisco.

OK, I tried using a simple webbot to extract all the pages from LR mid-drive thread, but ran into some problems (like I said, I'm out of my comfort zone on this project.) I'm going to be forced to get clever on this one. And I really would like the resulting document, as I have one of LR's Big...

Well, it's probably not the best place for it, but the archiving question is pertinent to this thread. Collectively, the pages (minus some careful edits) represent both a design history and how-to booklet for the LR mid-drive. Very useful stuff, as the drive is still an enthusiasts device...

I meant to let everyone know that I received my Big Block Kit from LR the other day. Exactly one day before I started remodelling both my bathrooms. The Grand Unboxing and my build thread will have to wait until I have working bathrooms. Or else, if you get my drift. This is worse than...

If you need an example of the value of LR's kit, checkout a competitor: the Eco-Speed mid-drive kit. (http://www.ecospeed.com) Over $3000 for a 1300W kit. And LR's kit is, IMHO, much better engineered and constructed. (No bias here. Disclaimer: I just took delivery of my Big Block kit!)

I'd like to chime in on the downside of hub motor builds. My first build was using a 2000W rear hub motor on a mountain bike. The motor certainly helped, but even 2000W was not enough, as realy steep climbs forced me to run at too low an RPM. Everything got hot on tough climbs. What was...

Yes, the 1500 cycle figure is strictly for small put-puts around the block. It allows the manufacturer to claim the highest possible lifespan for their product. A more useful measure is 700-800 cycles at 50% DOD. I'm running my rig with a 2kW limit on the CA, the nominal 2C maximum continuous...
