    sturdy 26 inch rim recomendations

I laced on an Alex DM24 and am happy with the results. They're made in Taiwan, though they cost a bit less than SUN Ringle or Mavic. The Alex was recommended by another ES member.

Starting an Engineering Degree, Any tips?

A Degree is not a golden ticket by any means, however getting an education can work to your advantage if you seek out specific opportunities. You may have a career started before you ever finish your degree if you make an effort to work with faculty/alumni/peers etc. If your interests are very...

    Strong rear rack for battery

Buy a Wald rear rack. Get the one that bolts right to the rear axle. They're a little heavy though for good reason.

switch to increase battery voltage , is this possible?

I believe keeping the discharge on the batteries balanced is generally a good idea, so an extra battery shouldn't just be switched on periodically. On a side note: You would benefit from higher voltages only if your motor, controller, etc. can take the higher voltages and if so, leave the...

budget beach bike build with yescom EBike kit

Approaching close to 500 miles now, no major problems. I'll never get used to how heavy SLAs are(especially 22AH), however I only have half the money saved to buy a PING LiFePO4, so maybe once riding season has started back up I'll get to ordering that. 2 sets of V-brake pads gone in 500 miles...

    Copenhagen wheel

I wonder if this company has a patent, or maybe share one. There is a similar product, called Smart Wheel by FlyKly. I see no differences. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/flykly/flykly-smart-wheel?ref=search

    Strongest seat post rack

I had a Schwinn seatpost rack mounted for a while, the better alloy one that has a double bolt clamp, not the plastic one. It was sturdy and held well once I demystified how the correct shims needed to fit. The larger the seatpost diameter, the less the rack is apt to swing away. Also, trying to...

    Is this a good deal?

No, I'm not buying it. There was a recall too. The rear axles break and the wheels fall off. They have a "remedy" for this situation though it involves transporting it to a capable retailer to install. My ebike feels like it's standing still at 15MPH, I don't think I could get used to that...

    Is this a good deal?

I can't see how 5 y/o SLAs would keep. I suspect the the owner hasn't cycled the battery fully and assumed that if it powered up it's fine. Will this bike take well to an overvoltage lithium battery upgrade for more power? I vaguely remember reading about the Currie motors overheating easily...

    Dishonesty in the marketplace

A "quick sale" to some "nobody" with ignored items slapped into a package haphazardly ready to be damaged by USPS is as bad as bad gets sale wise. I certainly learned a few things reading this thread and I can thank everyone for that.

Helmets Part 1,489,348 - To Wear Or Not To Wear

I like that look spisska. Though not as O-ficial, you might settle for a pair of over-the-glasses goggles like ones I have seen on EBAY. Also noteworthy, you may want to get an oversized helmet to fit over the liner.

Helmets Part 1,489,348 - To Wear Or Not To Wear

I've been wearing a typical vented cycling helmet all summer and now that the colder weather is starting, I realized that those vents are the furthest thing from warm. I tried a fleece/neoprene hat under the helmet but those air vents still funnel too much cold air onto my head. My solution, a...

Is my bike compatible for front wheel e-bike kit?

Go for the hill topper 700c kit. If THAT is your wheel size, it should fit right on. I believe they offer selaed lead acid battery kits for under $500 and there is a Lithium option too. If your bike has non-standard size wheels, forks, etc. You might want to consider buying a prebuilt EBike...

    Fuse rating for light system

front lights 2 at 5 Watts each = 10 Watts @ 48 Volts = .21 Amps now add the 2 rears, .1 amp therefore based on what you've stated you are drawing less than .4 amps with the lights on. A 5 Amp fuse should be all you need. You can install a larger fuse but not much smaller.

    Fuse rating for light system

Are the lights getting 12 Volts or 48? For a fuse, use the power formula and solve for current in Amps. Use a fuse the next size up from your current consumption. Power(Watts) = EMF(Volts) * Current(Amps) so lets say each light needs 5 Watts and you say there are 4 of them: 20 Watts = 12...

2wd EBikes not just for off road

True, I forgot to shift into a lower cog before I stopped at this traffic light. I was just running an errand and was ducking between two storms so I was in a hurry. I do have 2 wheels driven when I'm pedalling. Becuase my bike is a cruiser, I don't have enough body weight on the front tire for...

2wd EBikes not just for off road

After a recent ride following a light rain not had for 2 weeks, I am realizing the benefit of 2wd EBikes. My front-drive bike was getting pretty squirrelly as I took off going up a hill. I realize the roads collect a thin layer of oil on the the surface over the course of sunny, hot days and...
