BalorNG, sound very interesting. Can you explain how to set up a virtual freewheel on a VESC? Thanks, Avner.

How many flats are too many flats

Riding off road (mountain biking), flats virtually stopped once I switched to tubless. Went from once every few rides to once in a few months. You do have to air them up more frequently than tubes and remember to occasionally top off the fluid. Almost no thorn flats, the few rare ones can be...

disc/brakepad alignment? (using all the disc)

The formula for calculating friction is: Friction force= Clamping force x coefficient of friction between the two materials. The size of the contact area does not effect the friction force. However, smaller area does mean higher wear. Avner.

    Astral Rune build thread

Hi. I chose to go with mid over hub because: Less overall weight. Less unsprung weight (better bump handling because of much lighter wheel) Stronger wheel and axle (for jumps and drops). Less heat generated because of reduction gearing. Better cooling. Avner.

Bizarre, yet reliable and robust CVT transmission design.

No unicorns necessary, most motors have "wide rpm band" as long as they are supplied with correct voltage. Shimano, Brose, Fazua use cassettes because they are legally limited to low power. Check my second build (http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=82678), LMX bikes...

reversed suspension, pull suspension, is it a thing?

What exactly are you try to accomplish by using a pull shock? Are you building a custom frame? Personally I wouldn't want a bike frame designed for pull shocks because it would be "married" to a proprietary shock that is hard to maintain or replace, compared to standard shocks which are...

    Making Crankset for Mid Drives?

Hi. Before you go ahead, check if the freewheel and the BBS spacer/chainring, have the same the 5 hole bolt circle diameter and central hole diameter. Try one of these adaptors: https://www.cyclone-tw.com/product/14/data/56 Avner.

Hydraulic brakes - adjustment & mineral oil

Hi. Don't use drugstore oil. The mineral oil used in brakes is a low viscosity refined petroleum oil, similar to industrial hydraulic fluids or automatic transmission fluid. You will find more info on adjustments on mountain bike forums/sites/youtube channels, than on ones dedicated to...

E-bike mid-drive motors hardly outperforms hub motors

Jil. At what speed did you run the simulation? At what gear did you simulate the BBS HD? I'm guessing that at optimal gear for the speed, the BBS HD might have better efficiency below 5-6% inclination as well. Avner.

Ruined $150 Shimano Deore hydraulic brakes

I use Discobrakes' Kevlar pads. They have braking characteristics similar to metalic pads, but without the noises. https://www.discobrakes.com/?s=0&t=0& I also only use 200mm rotors (on both electric and human powered bikes), no reason to compromise braking using by smaller rotors. Avner.

    nm vs watts

Calculating power (Watts) base on torque (nMs): http://wentec.com/unipower/calculators/power_torque.asp TL;DR Watts = nMs x RPM x Constant. Advertised numbers (Watts and nMs) are pretty useless because they can mean many different things; nominal value, max value, value that complies with...

Rewind a cyclone 3kw motor for more power ?

The only way to get more torque (at the wheel) without generating more heat is to have a larger reduction ratio. Increasing reduction will require less motor torque to generate the same wheel torque and the reduction in motor torque will generate less heat. For a deep dive into these subjects...

    Phaserunner cutting out.

Thanks Goatman, I'll check them out. E-HP, I don't think the issue is a software initiated thermal cutout because the controller cuts out sharply, not reduces power gradually. It's configured to max battery amps and max phase amps and never had cutouts before (I've had cutouts because of...

I have an issue with my V1 Phaserunner. It is cutting out after a few minutes of high load. Phaserunner suddenly stops, not a gradual rollback.
