Spare axles plus logs and a hub motor: walking-speed RC car that can move stacks of 4x8 plywood? A flat robot mule? Sorta??

If you wanted to stick to your Land Cruiser axles you could look at a caravan motor mover. Designed to move a caravan by remote control at about walking pace (some are quicker than others, usually movers rated for heavier caravans are just geared up and run slower). Will run of a 12v car battery...

    36v DC to 240v AC(uk)

You could use a computer UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). you will have to find one that needs three 12v batteries and has an offline mode so that you can start it without having 240v AC. i use one on my solar battery bank. i had to google each model i found on ebay to find the manuals and...

DIY spot-welder, transformers from microwave ovens?

I might have some old tig welding electrodes lying around which are down to the last few cm. I'll see if I can drill a piece of copper and hammer one in so only a couple of mm is left sticking out.

DIY spot-welder, transformers from microwave ovens?

I have reserched and there are people getting good results with 50 to 300ms, some with a resistor to reduce power which I will have on mine. The timer I picked is a quick fix off the shelf solution. Ptobably not the best but im hopeing it does the job I havent got back to my axial motor yet but...

DIY spot-welder, transformers from microwave ovens?

There were quite a few similar timers om ebay but only a couple went down to 0.1s, most had 1 second as the shortest time setting. The one I ordered is coming from china so could probably be sent anywhere. I will remove the relay from the board and connect to a ssr. I have a few 10A ssr's...

DIY spot-welder, transformers from microwave ovens?

I have been planning on building a spot welder for a while and as I have a few drill batteries to repair I went ahead and bought a MOT to start my build. I was going to try and get hold of an old microwave bybut having worked on radar and knowing I didnt have a good safe place away from the kids...

    IGBT Driver Boards (eBay)

Only of any use if you are building your own controller. If you have a lebowski controller brain board and want to make big power one of the hardest part is driving the FET's or IGBT's reliably and these boards take all the guess work out of it. They will drive up to 1200v 600A IGBT's so you...

    IGBT Driver Boards (eBay)

Hi guys, ive just bought three of these igbt drivers on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232130910662 They normally go forvabout £50-80 each but I offered £50 for three and got them. I think he has loads if anyone wants some I know I am posting in the wrong section but I dont want anyone to...

    Alternator motor conversion.

Im not sure how much torque I was getting, I remember it being a bad idea to try and load it with my hand but that about it. I was planning on using 24v but I dont remember if I got to that but I defenately tried 12v first. I wouldn't wory about trying to find a 24v alternator. Theres a good...

    Alternator motor conversion.

I tried modding an alternator as you describe and had it running for a little while with an rc brushless speed controller. For the rotor field I just connected a car headlight lamp in series and connected directly to 12v it worked for a while until something went and I lost a phase on the...

    Value of Nissan Leaf Batteries

I've been watching that thread. Some realy good work he has been doing there. taking everything out of a wrecked leaf or similar and sticking it in something a bit more interesting is the holy grail in my opinion. I'm just glad someone else is doing some of the hard work, its quite a daunting...

    Value of Nissan Leaf Batteries

Hi guys, I have been looking at salvaged nissan leafs and was trying to work out what I could sell thebatteries for, I have looked on eBay a few times for leaf batteries for sale but haven't seen any yet. I have seen them for sale at...

    500KG 4WD agricultural vehicle

Your best option is probably to use hydraulic motors mounted to your wheels with one electric motor driving the hydraulic pump. Hydraulic motors tick all the boxes for torque, size, weight and durability. Your vehicle is going to need motors that won't burn out if a wheel jams up on a stray...

    Scrap EV's

I wasn't going to go as far as using the running gear, just motor, controller, battery, charger, and any other electrical/electronic components I can. But I did say all I suppose. CoPart wouldn't tell me the final sale price of this car but I found one on a US salvage site buy it now for...

    Scrap EV's

I was just wondering what the feasibility would be of buying a scrap Nissan Leaf or similar and transferring everything over to another car. I saw this on copart http://www.copart.co.uk/uk/Lot/27253145?searchId=973243130 It's sitting at £2050 with less than two hours to go so might not go much...

how to build a motor test stand?

I was planning to use an eddy current break for a motor test stand. I have been looking out for a truck or bus retarded on eBay but haven't seen any near me. While there is no holding force at zero rpm as soon as there is any movement there will be an aposing force. I don't like the idea of a...

Low voltage, high amps, can it scale > 100kW?

Sorry, what I should have said was the IGBT module (actually an IGBT IPM) I was looking at. the reason I was looking at the IPM was because the drivers are on the module and I'm no expert in power electronics. there is a lot of info and has been a lot of good work done on here on driving FET's...

Low voltage, high amps, can it scale > 100kW?

72 FET's is a lot but still cheaper than the IGBT module required to produce the same power, maybe reliability would suffer and I'm not sure about the affects on the driver circuit being within millimetres of the motor windings and magnets.

Low voltage, high amps, can it scale > 100kW?

In stead of winding the motor in a star why not drive each phase seperately that will half the required voltage straight away. Ok it will require three single phase bridge drivers rather than a single three phase driver, effectively twice the number of fet's but that's not necessarily a bad...

    Renault Zoe

I drove the Zoe then the Nissan leaf right after it and while the Zoe was perfectly acceptable the Leaf is miles better. The Leaf felt like any other mid range car while the Zoe felt tinny and reminded me a bit of a Yugo a pall had a few years ago.

    My Axial Motor Project

Hi, I haven't been able to do much for a while due to work and and not having my new workshop built yet but I haven't given up. I'm planning a slightly simplified version with simple laminated cores (no hammer heads or magnetite) and a sandwiched flat plate design to allow me to build it...

    Motor Material Choice

Single stator, it’s very over engineered http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=54548 I’m about 40 miles from Glasgow, about an hour give or take depending on traffic.

    Motor Material Choice

Single motor with two rotors, each rotor has 16 arc magnets with 16 rectangular magnets between them making a hallbach array. The average magnetic field across the magnets is a little over 1.1T, which is where the high torque comes from. From my calculations the motor should weigh in at about...

    Motor Material Choice

It’s for a car actually. I had been thinking about building a motor for a couple of years and researched several different technologies and came up with a few ideas of my own, and then I picked up a non-running Mazda rx8 for £300 so my design grew to be able to power a car. It kind of happened...

    Motor Material Choice

Temperature shouldn’t be a problem as the coils will be liquid cooled. I am more concerned about structural strength as my target is over 600NM torque. If I have 32 screws at 140mm radius that works out at 145N shear force on each screw and there could be spikes of much more than 600NM. An M...
