    Help for new eBoard build

Not to take anything away from endless-sphere it's a great place but you will find a lot more traffic on this topic at https://forum.esk8.news/

What happened to the Dirtsurfer? Alternatives?

Looks like speedboard is ghosting their kickstarter backers and deleting any questions about it on their facebook.

    Looking inside a Boosted Board

I'll just repeat what I said in my pm... You can totally do that. The cells are A123 ANR26650M1-B cells. http://www.a123systems.com/lithium-ion- ... l-cell.htm You can find them for sale right here on endless-sphere. The problem you are going to have is that the circuitry that manages the...

18650 Cycle Life vs Discharge/Charge Rate

You are confused. Adding cells no matter whether you add them in series or parallel will increase your capacity. But wait you say. The amp-hours only go up if if I add them in parallel Yes but the watt-hours goes up no matter which way you add the cells and its the watt hours that counts. If...

    Batteries' C rating?

Adding more cells in series does cause your capacity increase of course. Since the voltage is higher you will draw less amps so you don't need as many amp hours to go the same distance. It would be better to think of capacity in terms of watt hours not amp hours. Adding cells in either series...

    Hacking a Boosted Board

Nice one rev. Your hack is simpler than mine. Using the same chemistry is the right answer for most people so that will be my advice to others from now on. Also tapping the wires on the esc side where there is more room is a stroke of genius. I'm going to edit my original post to mention that...

Evolve Carbon AT with 50km+ range

Well done sir! I did a much simpler hack on my Boosted board where the extra batteries are simply stuck on the bottom (the Boosted doesn't have a cavity like the evolve). They are attached beyond the bms and so have bms's of their own. I thought about building my own pack and hacking more cells...

    One esc and two motors

A brushed motor has a "commutator" that rotates the brushes against the points and turns the windings on and off. A brushless motor has a controller that senses the rotation from the back-emf and turns the windings on and off. One controller could not drive two motors because they would not be...

How far is your average eboard ride?

I noticed a popping feeling when braking really hard. Didn't realize at first it was the belt teeth popping over. I make sure back off when I feel the popping so I don't trash my belts.

    Hacking a Boosted Board

I got some questions by PM so I thought I would answer them here in case they are helpful for others: I like to ride fast but at times I was on a bicycle path with families around and at other times I was grinding up a hill. Since the Boosted never seems to go above 21mph the average for the...

How far is your average eboard ride?

That would be 15c by my calculation. I weigh 185. I'm not sure if I've gone 200 miles yet but my belts seems fine. I've never tensioned them or anything. I guess I should order a belt replacement kit since some day I will need it.

How far is your average eboard ride?

The hack. If it's perfectly flat and you go slowly you could maybe go 10km but you'd have to really crawl along, and push off with your feet any time you stop. 8 km is possible if you go slow. At top speed less than 5km is what you can expect. If there are hills it's 4km or even 3km. Here's a...

    Looking inside a Boosted Board

It was made specially for Boosted by Mean Well. The part number starts with "BB" for "Boosted Boards" and it is not documented anywhere. I'm not sure if the CCCV charging regime is handled by the charger or the on-board bms. I can't get my multimeter leads in when it's connected so I'm not sure...

    Hacking a Boosted Board

No that is a 2P pack - 6.6V which is way too low - you need 10S, 36V. It would be instantly destroyed by the higher voltage Boosted and if you were unlucky it would catch fire. You could put 5 of those in series to get the correct voltage tho. It would be a bit big and heavy tho and you'd have...

How far is your average eboard ride?

Weekdays 2km to work and back = 4km. It's only five minutes door to door if I catch the lights. It might actually take longer to drive because I'd have to park. Weekends I've been limited to the 6km range of my Boosted except for a few times when I stopped at Starbucks to charge up. Now that...

    Hacking a Boosted Board

I can charge everything together with the Satiator set to 43.2V - the blue pack bms will automatically stop charging when they hit 42V and then the Boosted will finish charging. Theoretically I could charge it all together with the stock charger, but it would take a few hours to charge all those...

    Hacking a Boosted Board

I can take off the packs and tuck the tap back under the stock battery pack and it's back to stock again as far as anyone can tell.

So I bought a lathe...and made Hub Motors

My hub motors arrived today. Hot damn this is sweet! These wheels are so huge. The motors are monstorous compared to the ones on my Boosted. I can't wait to get this build together. Just gotta get my VESC.

    Hacking a Boosted Board

Each pack is 500g So this adds 1.5kg Dont really notice the difference when riding, the board just feels more planted. It does mean I can't drop off curbs anymore because it would scrape them up. I do notice its about an extra third heavier if I have to carry it.

    Hacking a Boosted Board

Previously I took my Boosted Board to the Grin Technologies office nearby for Justin and Robbie to check out: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=67586 I was complaining to Justin about the dismal range and he said to hack it. So I did! I bought three of these prototype packs...

    Looking inside a Boosted Board

If the Evolve has a two-conductor plug (built in balancing BMS) and not some kind of balancing charger then the Satiator would surely work for you. It can be set to output 24V-60V and has algorithms for all the battery chemistries (you could even use it to charge car batteries).

    Looking inside a Boosted Board

Update: I'm now using a different charger with my boosted board. It's the Cycle Satiator from Grin Technologies: http://www.ebikes.ca/product-info/cycle-satiator.html It's pretty cool - it's fully programmable and can charge at up to 8 amps instead of the 2.7A of the stock charger. You can also...

    Kranx powerstik (drill powered)

I can see this working well for certain people: younger people with not much money who have a drill or maybe can borrow their dad's. People who want to bomb hills but are bored of walking up or don't have someone to drive them up over and over (maybe because they're too young?). People who are...
