What's wrong with my BMC motor?

The shaft key was in place, and it looks good. I programmed in a relatively slow ramp on CA3 so I never put too much torque on it. No debris and no loose magnets. With the clutch out, I was not able to duplicate the sound spinning by hand. The bearings seemed good. Amberwolf suggested possibly...

What's wrong with my BMC motor?

Well to be fair, Teklektic, we sorta ruled out spinning backwards in posts 3 and 4. However, Alan B brought up that it could happen during a ride, which is why I went back to my videos. Also, apparently, cannot upload videos here anymore, so I just learned how to post on Youtube: UPDATE: I...

What's wrong with my BMC motor?

luckily, i took a video with motor/clutch assembly removed from housing rotating with light throttle. It does seem to spin in reverse direction if I’m not mistaken. Hmm, will have to verify. Thanks.

What's wrong with my BMC motor?

The motor spins with throttle application. So it seems even though the clutch seems fine from off-motor inspection, clutch failure is the logical conclusion. Hopefully, a new clutch will be the fix. Thank you all for your help!

What's wrong with my BMC motor?

The ring gear seemed stable against the hub housing. I could not move it with my hand. Now I'm really stumped.

What's wrong with my BMC motor?

Did not check the ring gear. Will do when I get home today and update. Thanks.

What's wrong with my BMC motor?

good theory on going in reverse. But, 1. This failure happened in the middle of a ride 2. When I flip the bike over, with throttle application, the wheel moves ever so slightly in the forward direction with a clicking sound coming from the motor However I suppose there is the unlikely...

What's wrong with my BMC motor?

Hi, My BMC motor failed suddenly the other day on my commute. The motor is a BMC 600W. Best I can tell, it is a v2 speed version. I got it used, then put about 2k miles on it at about 1500W - gradual starts with CA3 programming. Symptom: when I throttle, I hear the motor spinning, but no...

    Motor cutting out

Following ... This happens to me too. BMC v2S motor, 12-fet Grinfineon, 48V Luna shark. One time, I hit a bump and the system went dead. It turned out the BMS on battery needed to be "jump started." Best I can tell, this was caused by battery terminal intermittent. What caused that? I suspect...

    Did I overheat my BBS02?

Against my better judgement, I got too throttle happy this morning. I full throttled for about 6 miles, at which point I checked the case temp was too hot to touch (I don't have a temp gauge). The problem I am having is when I pedal and power comes on, it does not turn off when I stop pedaling...

Adding a parallel battery to eBike

I have been thinking about doing this. I have a 48V 11.6AH dolphin pack and am considering building a 13S1P pack for a bit more capacity. From what I have gathered from reading, and the short answer is yes, you can do it. There are some BUTs, however: 1. The two batteries should be the same...

    I am lost in Gears!

OK, I'll take a stab at this. Those more knowledgeable than I am will want to chime in here You will need a screw-on freewheel (as opposed to a freehub such as the one that came with your bike). You can buy one from here: http://www.ebikes.ca/shop/ebike-parts/freewheels.html According to...

They shipped a BBS02 to my paypal address. I got it in 6 days to California.

    Bafang BBS02

I gear mine only for top speed commuting. 52t on a 26er, 48t on a 29er. IIRC, 28-30 rpm achieved at around 85rpm cadence on a 11t cog. You can calculate this on Sheldon Browns gear calculator. The BBS02 gets you to around 28 mph (flat no wind) in highest level pedelec mode with a 13S 48v battery.

Good bikes with belt drive and IGH for Bafang conversion?

In general, your best bet would be to post a bike you are interested in and ask if that is a good candidate. Belt drive: the problem here is that the BBS02 has a unique front chainring mount and I am not aware of any compatible belt drive pulleys. Let me know if you find one. Any bike that...

Which electric bike is a smarter choice?

I would test ride both these bikes and see how they feel. Ride them up a long incline to see if the motor cuts out and also what the top speed is on the Daedalus. For the hills of SF and especially with limited power, a mid-drive is ideal. If you can consider upping your budget, you can get...

    Power / Torque Sensor Roundup

Hey Justin, how likely will you do offer the BeamTS? with this, I can incorporate torque sensing on a Bafang BBS02 with the CA3 "throttling" the controller, right?

How may watts needed for 25 MPH etc?

https://endless-sphere.com/w/index.php/EBike_Efficiency Second graph from the top This is pretty dang accurate from my experience. On a mtb, it will take 500w, but don't forget to factor in your own effort (if any). At 600w with 100w pedaling, I'm doing about 27 mph on a mtb. Wind will vary that...

question about mid-drive in throttle mode

No, there is a freewheel mechanism on the bafang, you don't have to pedal.

Bravo! I like the idea of an automated 18650 testing station - much faster than testing each manually.

    Combining chargers in parallel

Not necessarily, the fact that they are CC limited just means that the current will not "run away" and be limited which is good. The problems you have *may* be due to the fact that most power supplies are not designed to sink current. This is related to trying to parallel two batteries together...

    Bafang BBSO2 PAS questions

I also have a Bafang 750W setup and am trying to figure out what it is doing. Are you saying that at each PAS level, the controller is trying to maintain a certain power at all times? What I noticed is that at, say level 3, I'm going 28 mph at a constant clip. Now I start to climb and my speed...

    Combining chargers in parallel

Here is what I'm imagining is happening. Take two plain 'ol power supplies (non-cc) and hook up positive to positive, negative to negative. If the voltages are not exactly the same (pretty much impossible), you will have a current of (v1-v2)/R where R is the total resistance of the wires (ohms...

    Combining chargers in parallel

The first thing that comes to mind is that two "dumb" chargers in parallel will not have the same exact output voltage. Even a slight difference will cause a current loop, possibly damaging one or both chargers.

Recommend ebikes for a work fleet

Have you thought about digging deeper into the cause of these failures? Is it possible the problem resides with the charger? Is there some sort of inline electrical device to put inline between charger and battery? Is is the battery BMS? There could be a much cheaper alternative rather than...
