Bafang BBSHD BBS02 mid drive -- Flexible OpenSource firmware

I know it is only simple but do you have a repo with your code so far?

Bafang BBSHD BBS02 mid drive -- Flexible OpenSource firmware

This open source tool appears to work, I have been using it to interrogate the STC in my BBS02 but have not tried flashing anything yet: https://github.com/grigorig/stcgal Other people online seem to have been using it successfully. Cheers

Bafang BBSHD BBS02 mid drive -- Flexible OpenSource firmware

It would be interesting to see what happens if you send a command to raise the current limit above 30A...

Bafang BBSHD BBS02 mid drive -- Flexible OpenSource firmware

Now that VESC has native PAS support, it would be awesome to see a VESC controller that could be swapped into the housing where the Bafang controller goes. I have done some simple layouts in the past but haven't done any high current stuff so this is beyond my abilities. Happy to look at if...

Bafang BBSHD BBS02 mid drive -- Flexible OpenSource firmware

Sounds like an interesting idea. Shame about the D79F9211. For reference this is the STC in my 2016 vintage BBS02: $ stcgal -P stc15 Waiting for MCU, please cycle power: done Target model: Name: STC15F2K60S2 Magic: F408 Code flash: 60.0 KB EEPROM flash: 1.0 KB Target frequency: 18.437...

    Schaeffer grease alternative?

Hi all, I asked my BBS02 supplier (EM3EV) the recommended grease for the steel reduction gears and they suggested "Schaeffer 238 Grease Moly Ultra Supreme #1". I'm not able to find anyone to supply this brand in Australia, does anyone know a suitable alternative? I have read about others...

    BBS02 possible seal failure?

Hi all, I've noticed this area seems to be leaking some kind of oil or grease: Do you think it is a problem? The BBS02 has done just over 3,000km. It is otherwise quiet and seems normal. I haven't done any maintenance on it at all other than re-tightening the lock rings. Cheers!

Very nice, I'd be keen to take a close look at this one day! Do you work in the city?

My first victim - Giant OCR with BBS02

Another update - bike has now almost hit 2,400km and only just now has required another re-torque of the motor. I haven't had any other issues other than a bit of rubbing from the 28mm tyres - it's really touch and go with this frame and I've been told the GP4000 tyres are fatter than...

My first victim - Giant OCR with BBS02

Thanks melonbr3ad! I don't think you'll be able to get away with not using a cable outer near the BB unfortunately; there's not much clearance at all. Yes the motor is held in place by friction on the sides of the BB housing. You will want the motor to be hard up against the bottom tube or it...

My first victim - Giant OCR with BBS02

I have almost clicked over 500km now and the lock ring is still intact, and no other issues! I'm very happy with the bike and I'm using it daily for commutes. I've fitted a rear mudguard but other than that it has just been a matter of cleaning the chain and charging the battery!

    Critique my mid-drive build plan

Are you in Brisbane? If so you could take my bike for a ride to see if your power needs are overstated. I'm running a Bafang BBS02 with a dolphin pack full of 18650 cells, apart from needing to be retightened once, it has been reliable. I have just clocked over 500km, I commute 40km a day. Cheers

World Domination, I just got my self a 3d Printer!!!

I picked up a Wanhao Duplicator I3 branded as "Cocoon Create" at my local Aldi supermarket! Surprisingly it has been an amazing machine: I designed and printed a stem mount for my bike accessories: Also made a spacer plate for my Bafang display so I could flip it around 180 degrees...

Is an ebike for commuting and exercise reasonable?

I love using my ebike to commute, and I find I put in a fair bit of effort because I like to. It's great to have the motor when you are tired and just want to get home though!

Which display do you prefer to use with BBSHD?

I use this colour IPS one with some custom spacers I made to flip the bracket around: I like it but haven't tried another display to know the difference!

My first victim - Giant OCR with BBS02

After about 6 revisions I finally had a workable design for mounting my accessories. I decided to design a mount in two parts that when brought together form a ring around the stem to allow a second "row" of stuff to be mounted. Here's the final design: It is all held together only by the...

My first victim - Giant OCR with BBS02

The next stage of the build was fitting the additional sensors. The kit came with a wheel speed sensor, and as my bike has drop bars I optioned two HWBS (Hidden Wire Brake Sensor) devices. Here's the wheel speed sensor and magnet fitted, talk about a monster magnet: I decided to fit the...
