    Modular, Multi-Platform, 300A ESC

Hi everyone, just passing by to do a little report on the MP2 I build and adding to the recent discussion on bus bar issue. I just did a weekend of race with it : 5H endurance race and 3 x 20min speed race. In total something like 250km of hard riding. The motor was my weak link and could not...

    Modular, Multi-Platform, 300A ESC

The first reason I had to bolt through was that I haven't put screws on before soldering all fets and didn't want to fatigue the legs nor strip pads from the PCB by bending them :p. I think heatshring passing 1mm the tab musshrom on the first thread and might hold isolation (time will tell). I...

    Modular, Multi-Platform, 300A ESC

I did use my MP2 with VESC. I haven't had time to report everything here, sorry about that ... I had to switch back from mesc to vesc because I needed datalogging before road testing and since I had already a serial to bluetooth adapter it was the easy route. Not sure my header file could help...

    Modular, Multi-Platform, 300A ESC

I've set up ABS_MAX_PHASE_CURRENT to 150 and MAX_IQ_REQUEST to 100, that's a lot better  However I trigger the max current error state accelerating at now load sometimes, I think the switching frequency might be a bit low for the low inductance my motor have. Probing the phase current...

    Modular, Multi-Platform, 300A ESC

Thank you mxlemming, just made it work by putting the MESC init after the motor init as you said ! Also have the live expressions now (I was as you also said using the wrong expressions, motor1 was needed instead of foc_vars). I had a few trouble playing with it (burned the blue pill regulator...

    Modular, Multi-Platform, 300A ESC

I've been reading advancement on this DIY ESC quite often because I was looking for something capable of some good power. So first of all, thank you for sharing this badginer and thanks to all the people contributing to this ! I've recently ordered some boards ( V0.2 at the time) and assembled...

Multistage axial flux motor design and prototyping

Reviving this old thread, hard to realise more than a year as passed since my last post ... Sorry for not a answerring to all of your great suggestions back then, I had been caugth in my professional work without motivation left for this diy motor adventure. To respond to stan, It is a 750W...

    DIY Toroidal Axial Flux PM

About copper section, another important thing to take into consideration for correless stators is Eddy losses. A simple formula to estimate the losses per unit of mass : Applied to our case : (3.14/6)*(0.0002m^2*0.7T^2*2000hz^2)/(2*17E-9ohm.m*8960kg/m3) = 423.33W/kg So if you have 1kg of...

My high temp epoxy needed 10 days for full hardness at ambiant temp and would only had a 50°c glass transition temp then. With 16 hours at ambiant and 16h at 60°c it is full hardness and 115°C TG. Maybe yours as something like this specified ! I've found copper to add good stifness to it also...

    DIY Toroidal Axial Flux PM

Good work on the carrierless stator ! It's probably the best way to get good copper density with proper compression tooling and vacuum infusion of high temp epoxy :) APL it's funny you mentionned the symetrical coreless outrunner friction drive since it was my first design who was'nt build last...

Multistage axial flux motor design and prototyping

I actually did use your advise to true up the seconde face of one rotor, mandrel is the way to go for this :thumb: Actually the lathe even if it's kind of cheap for this kind of tool was a lot of money to spend on a hobby like this for me, it might be a while before I pull the trigger on big...

    Vesc Hard Limiting Top Speed

Not sure field weakening would be of any help if the base speed of the motor isn't reach without it. Have you checked the RPM at no load ? If you are not hiting the speed you should regarding KV and battery voltage it may also be a erpm limit or any kind of software limit actually. What motor...

Actually haven't tough about that at all  ! Maybe reducing the lip heigth to half the magnet thickness will be sufficient for keeping the magnet from flying and cut the bridge ? I don't think i'm going to cut on balancing for sure, static first and dynamic if needed (but for that i'll...

Multistage axial flux motor design and prototyping

Unfotunatly vesc are quite expensive and I know they are good at self destructing. That's why I hope to find a diy controler with separated and cheap to fix powerstage that is capable of 60+khz. I can not afford to burn one of those 75/300 for sure at 450€ a piece :? Firstly thanks for your...

Multistage axial flux motor design and prototyping

It actually take 300A at low speed from inertial loading at first, I agree this is not a heavy load though. But is low inductance challenging only at low speed ? I would assume that if you can keep ripple current in control even at medium speed where BEMF isn't helping to reduce it at all it...

Multistage axial flux motor design and prototyping

Here is the video in question : fbK2dcoYS7g Running a 10kw EDF isn't an unloaded test so it seems stable enough for me  It was done 2 yeard ago so not really fresh news in that regards so i'm pretty optimistic about being able to run it without external coils.

Nice to see I have some people interrested in that to discuss with :D The first stator I made is using the 3d printed carrier I designed for watercooling.I'm using it already because it's actually just empty "in between" with through holes that helped me aligned the two print when gluing it...

Looking good ! Good to know the back iron help with the rigidity :thumb: The previous stator was too damaged to be reused with this rotor ? Just started my own thread to share my build without poluting yours : https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=112172

Hello everyone, I've been learning a lot on this forum that is, as his name suggess, an endless source of knowledge on electrical vehical. I've stayed mostly on the Electric techhnology Discussion part of the forum and have been inspired by awesome threads like Lebosky's and APL's on motor...

    DIY Toroidal Axial Flux PM

Didn't know about those before ! The limited power stage isn't really helpfull though a drv8301 breackout would be usefull with a modified FOCer board. You won't find generalised information about that, it really depend on the design, but here are some points I realised when trying to evaluate...

    DIY Toroidal Axial Flux PM

Just catch up with the progress ! Nice to see you got it running ! Congratulations :D Getting something 3D printed to run true might be a chalenge in itself with all the forces at play but i'm sure you will improve on that on the next build . I know it's hard without a lathe or a cnc mill...

    DIY Toroidal Axial Flux PM

Basicaly in star you have two phases in series, the two phase voltages are added and give line voltage. Beeing 120° appart the sum isn't two time peak phase but Root(3) * Peak phase voltage. kv = Peak line-line voltage/RPM so going from star to Delta increase the kV by a factor of Root(3). Also...

    DIY Toroidal Axial Flux PM

That's great :thumb: I was actually thinking about comparing ditributed (like we are doing with toroidal winding) and concentrated so that will help :) About that ... Just found out that they were a python FEMM implementattion called pyFEMM (https://www.femm.info/wiki/pyFEMM). It's a bit...

    DIY Toroidal Axial Flux PM

About that what you could do is as I said previously, input "number of rotor pole pair" and "number of stator pole pair" that could be different, then model only the commun divider of the two number * 2 stator poles count and maybe that number time * 2 + 1 or 3 for the rotor modelling to account...
