    Possible new project bike ...

Saw this on FB Marketplace for $100. Would you take a gamble for a $100? From the size of the controller, it might be a beefy motor. Even if all the motor parts are duds, the frame looks neat, and I can just put my 9c motor and controller on there.

Can anyone ID this peculiar bike/motor?

This "motorcycle with batteries" is for sale locally. It looks like there are 5 SLA batteries, so I'm guessing it's 60V? If the controller were 15A to 20A, then would this be around a 1000W motor? For such a relic, would anything be useful on it? frame, rear motor? It's only $50 ;)

    Replacing LCD for PEDAL ebike

A local seller has the "Street" model (https://pedalelectric.com/products/street) bike for sale in unworking condition. I looked at the photos, and it's missing an LCD, which could be the only problem or just the beginning. Are LCD's usually interchangeable? The bike frame looks identical to...

    e-skate dual hub controller options?

heh, bought a board with 2 hub motors for $20 last night when I went to buy something else from craigslist. So, I started doing research, and I am wondering what differences I might notice in a cheap $70 dual controller vs a more expensive one. Also, is there any way to ID the hub motors? The...

    "Modern" controller plug

A local craigslist ad for rear motors says two wheels have a "modern connector plug", but another one just has a "second generation plug configuration but not the latest type". Heh, does anyone have a guess to what they might mean? I only have 9C controllers with the rectangular plugs and not...

    50mm recommendations for friction drive?

I found a Dahon Boardwalk S1 for $40 and was hoping to put a "Commuter Booster" friction drive kit on it. Unfortunately, the used package I bought has a 63mm motor that will hit the chain. I'm thinking 50mm is my only choice. So, does anyone have any 50mm recommendations? This bike will just be...

    Puzzled by battery numbers

I have a pack of 18650cells, which is made up of 2 6s blocks with a fuse inbetween. Each block has balance lead that I hook up to a CellLog. One wire broke off, so that rendered one of the balance leads useless, but I didn't think it mattered for the most part. I bulk charge the 12s pack and...

How to improve my friction drive situation?

My used commuter booster is set up, but it's not working reliably. I’ve adjusted it so that the motor is 1mm from the wheel. The motor does engage the wheel, but it won’t stay engaged. I’m looking for advice to improving my situation. 1) I have the CB clamped on a dowel screwed into the...

commuter booster + brainbox - no beeps

I just set up my Commuter Booster + Brainbox tonight. The first time I plugged everything in, I heard the friendly beeps that I was expecting. I fiddled with things on the box, and the motor eventually started spinning when I hit the tiny throttle button. It was sort of unexpected how fast the...

    molex mini-lock 5 wire?

shorter rc motors for friction drive

I'm going to be cutting off 1/2" of the shaft to fit under kickstand mount, but I'm just wondering if I can also conserve space by getting a "shorter" motor. Even with cutting the shaft, it's a tight fit with the pedals and large chainring. So, any suggestions for a shorter motor? This bike is...

wires - high strand count necessity?

high strand count is much higher in price than say speaker wire (stranded) at the same AWG. Plus, at this hour I can run out to frys and get some. In what areas, is high strand count more of a necessity? Right now, I'm making a power cable extension from battery to controller, and I'll also be...

    9c e-bikekit stator swap?

My 26" 9c rear is having troubles. I'll be replacing a bad 'yellow' hall sensor, but I thought I'd ask a related question ... I have a 700c e-bikeKit front motor. Can the stator from the working front stator be put into the bad rear case?

    Mounting Commuter Booster suggestions

*** changed title to reflect that it's a Commuter Booster friction drive, not Kepler drive (by yoyoman on 2017-07-27) ** I bought an older generation Kepler friction drive since the new gen would mount too far from the wheel on my Dahon Mu SL folding bike. It just arrived, and now I'm looking...

    Friction drive on powertool batteries?

I have a few 36V Bosch fatpacks and some 40V black and decker lithium batteries. Is this too much voltage for the motors? The batteries are also just a couple Ah. Do you think I can ride the "last mile" or perhaps couple miles on just one battery? I'm trying to see what I can do without...

9C motor stuttered on last 1/3 mile

I ride 5 miles to work, and on the last 1/3 mile when I left the stop light, my 9C motor started stuttering. I let off the throttle and rode for a bit, and then when I tried it again, it seemed fine. This morning, when I went to ride to work, it stuttered or even didn't want to move. A few...

Kool stop pads. which one for Townie?

I have an Electra Townie 7D. I have Kool Stop pads on the rear brakes, but now I think I'll get front ones too instead of converting to disc. I live in San Diego, so these will only be used in dry conditions. Should I just go with these: Black - Our standard compound which is great for all...

    throttle wires - standard?

Are throttles wires in a set order? I have a 9c and ecrazyman controller, and the wire color order is different. In the photo, the throttle is connected to a 9c controller. The plug above it is from an ecrazyman controller. To use the throttle on the ecrazyman, should I swap the order of the...

    Shanghai - EV impressions

I've been in Shanghai for a full day now, and I am impressed with their usage of electric motorbikes. I'd say 95% or more of the scooters are all electric. There are also less scooters on the road than I would have imagined. There are definitely more scooters in Taiwan, and they're all gas =(

    4.5v pump question using 5v usb? ...

The pump for my air mattress says 4.5v. If my USB wall plug puts out 5V at 2.4A, could I hack a USB cable to power the pump? I just bought an inflatable kayak, and I'm wondering what's the fastest way to pump it up w/o buying a new pump.

    LBXR36 - black and decker 40v 1.5ah

Someone is selling 3 of these locally with 3 chargers for a super low price. I can sell two of the chargers to pay for the three batteries + remaining charger. Total would only be 40V 4.5ah, but that's more than sufficient for a last mile bike. Anyone know anything about the cells in these?

    What's this EVG part?

There's a 24V EVG on sale locally, and I saw something peculiar in the photos. I don't see the "part" on other bikes. I already have a surplus of e-bikes, but would you buy this for $75 (dead battery) just be/c it's a good deal?

    narrowest hub motors

I'd like to install a hubmotor on a 20" folding bike, and from what I've seen, most have dropouts narrower than the usual 135mm. Are there any motor brands/models that are narrow, ala 74mm or 100mm? Likewise, are there any Dahon folding bikes with wide dropouts?
