GMAC 10T replacing wheel bearings (How many, what type, what size?) Please help. Thanks.

So having torn my motor down, my assumption about sheared gears was incorrect, and my issue has now entered the realm of mystery, which seems to happen to me a lot. I've had issues with torque sensors and CA3's that have never been fully resolved. With my GMAC, I had to perform rapid braking...

GMAC 10T replacing wheel bearings (How many, what type, what size?) Please help. Thanks.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something in this thread, but had a similar issue recently with hard braking where the rear wheel locked up into a skid. It seems to have sheared some teeth because the wheel was locked up but the motor was still applying torque. I have not opened up and verified yet...

Strange regen and PAS behavior after new T9 install

I told Grin info that the shunt wiring appeared to be correct, but they insisted that I re-wire the CA3 shunt backwards so that white goes to S- and blue goes to S+. I did that, and it fixed the regen and wh/mi reporting, but reversed HWhrs and avg HW to negative numbers and completely killed...

Strange regen and PAS behavior after new T9 install

So I opened up the CA3 and the white wire is soldered to S+ and the blue wire is soldered to S-, which is correct. So the problem appears to lie elsewhere.

Strange regen and PAS behavior after new T9 install

And Grin info just confirmed that as the best approach.

Strange regen and PAS behavior after new T9 install

Sorry, yes, I meant hi and lo range. Thanks, although the product number of depletion mode FET referenced there is sold out everywhere. It seems like there are a lot of other depletion mode FETs available, but I don't know what voltage and amperage I'm supposed to be looking for, and they come...

Strange regen and PAS behavior after new T9 install

Okay, been a while since I posted here as I've been going back and forth with Grin info on this issue. I've made a small amount of progress. Justin suggested I upgrade to the new 3-2b3 firmware, thinking that might fix my issues. Unfortunately, it made things slightly worse: all of the old...

Strange regen and PAS behavior after new T9 install

Hello, I had an arc fault a few months ago that has taken a while to repair. I've recently replaced the torque sensor, an ERider T9N, and while my bike is mostly restored now, the regen, human watts and other metrics are diplaying outlandish numbers and I have to set the starting watts of my PAS...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

As requested, here are some photos of the front fender install: Overall view. Close-up detail from the back. A discerning eye will notice that my mounting hardware fixing the stays to the fender are for fender stays external to the fender. I don't like the stays that came with the kit, so I...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

It was the first replacement unit. I think what may possibly have happened is that I inserted the driveside bowlware and spindle into the BB simultaneously and perhaps the spindle was slightly misaligned to the sensor, and didn't seat quite straight. The alternative, which seems more likely, is...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

Okay I finally have some progress on this. I seem to have somehow bent the spindle on the new torque sensor, not sure if I mentioned that before or not. It still didn't entirely explain the issue, as I had the old spindle on hand, which was not bent, and I used that in conjunction with the new...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

It seems to have turned out to be the torque sensor, as the old sensor did not respond at all. However, I now have a new, mysterious and currently unsolvable problem. The PAS will only work if I pedal backwards. This is very strange behavior, and I haven't been able to find another example...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

Good point. Measuring that way, I get 11.4V, which I believe is a little high (supposed to be 10V), but I don't think that should cause much of an issue. I guess that indicates an issue with the sensor itself. I think I actually have a pretty good handle on that, but I've noticed there are...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

Looks like I have to buy a new sensor. I probed the JST-SM side of the torque cable from behind the connector while plugged into the CA3, and it reads 0.011 A on the DC 10 mA setting on my multimeter when the bike is on; I have no clue if that is a good or bad value. I verified that amps are...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

Flash back to CA3-14 didn't work. I couldn't find the old T9N anywhere and then remembered I sold it or gave it away to someone either here or on electricbikereview.com so it wouldn't go to waste. :? So dead in the water again, apart of course from a functioning throttle. It's fine for it to...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

Took a short test run today and mysteriously the torque sensor isn't picking up in any preset :?:. I verified the proper settings in the Grin documentation for the ERider T9N, which are set correctly. I fixed the speedo; the correct number of poles for the GMAC 10T is 6. Throttle seems to work...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

I downloaded and flashed firmware version CA3-2b1, which let me select 36 poles for the PAS (and still the default of 23 for the speedo, which tops out at 30--not sure what to set here, so left at default). It has a couple of neat new features as well, like backpedal regen. It also has a setting...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

:bigthumb: That did the trick. I verified it as well from the CA 3.1 manual, page 29: Thanks for that. Yeah I'm confused what to enter here. 23 is the default most people recommend, but the Grin/manufacturer docs both state the ERider T9N has 36 poles. My CA states it has v3.14, which I...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

For my battery config, I was simply using the wrong number of cells. I had entered 19, but consulting the product page I verified it's a 14S6P battery, so changing it to 14 cells fixed that issue. My torque sensor is an E-rider, which should have 36 poles according to Grin's documentation, but...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

Bruce lives! So it seems my gamble to replace the cheapest of the two possible components that might have failed, the CA3 and the Baserunner, thankfully paid off. I took the old CA3 apart to inspect it. I didn't go very far, just unscrewed it and removed the display, leaving the daughter...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

Finally made some progress on the bike, having finished up a new wiring harness. I ended up only removing a single connector, where the two previous Y-splitters hooked up, due to convenience for maintainence. I ordered a few new splitters from Grin, removed their APP connectors, soldered them...

Lol, you made my wife laugh. It's hilarious that his head is so big he can just wear human safety goggles. Speaking of which, my wife is disabled, and we actually have a trike as well. It's an HP Velotechnik Scorpion FS that we bought unassisted back in 2007 so they could ride, because they...

Short/arc fault in cold weather on XT-90

Sorry, been talking to Grin and Surly about that incident, I guess I didn't mention that here. Yeah, had an accident that tacoed my rear wheel. I had the same rim lying around in an older version, so was able to rebuild it pretty easily just swapping the spokes over then...

Thanks for all of your advice and knowhow; this bike is really my first major electrical project and it's been a hands on and sometimes hair-raising learning experience to be sure. In terms of wattage this bike can peak around 3.6 kW, but exceeding 90A for a 52V/1,1kW e-bike seems insane.
