Power Tool/Mower Batteries For Off Road Go Kart?

Well I know the electric ride on mowers use 6 batteries (assuming in parallel) so they should work. Krisuno (a YouTuber where I got the idea of using these batteries from) uses anywhere from 2 to 6 in parallel in his builds and they definitely seem to deliver more amps when paralleled. He...

Power Tool/Mower Batteries For Off Road Go Kart?

Has anyone here tried using power tool/mower batteries to power a go kart? I'm talking about the 80V 5AH packs from Greenworks/Kobalt. I've seen some builds on YouTube using them but nobody here seems to mention them (or at least no posts I've seen). I feel like it makes sense. The buggy I'm...

    "Hobbyist" Motor Controllers?

Well I'd be looking for something in the range of 40 horsepower, so I'm not talking some dinky electric motor. But the buggy build is besides the point.

    "Hobbyist" Motor Controllers?

So to preface: I've been planning out an off road kart/buggy build on a separate forum for a few weeks now, and while I initially started out with the idea of making it electric, it soon dawned on me that I am much better off building a gas buggy in the meantime due to both cost and lack of...

    Electric Dirtbike

Wouldn't you want to have regen on the front, and have the rear lockable? After all, you don't want to lock the front tire, and you'll get more power back from the front tire under regen braking as when you brake, the load will be shifted forwards.

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

THE PLUS AND THE BASE HAVE THE EXACT SAME ENGINE. The only "performance" parts on the Plus is a carbon fibre and suspension. NONE of those thing warrant a "de-tuning". And again, the Audi was just an example. The base model Golf and the GTI are the same way too. Same engine, only difference...

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

That isn't my point, my point is why is the base car de-tuned? Again, it's not just with supercars. VW does this with a lot of their cars (base Golf vs GTI), Volvo did this with their old 2.4 I5, newer BMWs, and rumor has it the new Supra. Hopefully this is the last time I have to repeat...

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

So you admit that the only difference is a tune? Don't try and move the goalposts. But even if you want to ignore supercars, this occurs in other cars as well. I believe the 2-series was caught doing this a year or so back. You keep saying how "based in reality" you are but you keep being...

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

No, it isn't. I have no idea why you continue to argue me about this specific point when it has very little to do with the main post. The engines of both the Base and Plus models are IDENTICAL save for software. This is just a fact. The Plus does have many other "premium" features like carbon...

Very interesting thread. Thanks for sharing!

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

Engine wise, yes they do cost the same to produce. Obviously the Plus costs more due to added carbon fibre among other things, but engines of the two cars are identical. The only difference is the software. The Base model is intentionally de-tuned.

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

That's not the point. The point is it still is de-tuned for no reason other than to boost sales of more expensive models. While it's still under warranty, sure. But warranties are temporary - and don't always stop people from tuning anyway, especially when they have money to burn. And yeah I...

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

There are many manufactures who do this, but here's an example. The newer Audi R8s use the same powerplant between the V10 and the V10 plus, the only difference being a tune. Want more power? Buy the Plus model for an extra $10k, or get it tuned for a few hundred. And some newer BMWs have been...

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

No, I mean there are cars that are exactly the same drivetrain wise, with the only difference between base and premium trims being a more powerful tune. This isn't about regulations, car companies have done this for a while to make premium models seem more appealing but not actually costing more...

Any power modification that increases torque, really.

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

This. Manufactures of ICE cars have been de-tuning their base model cars and selling "premium" models where the only difference performance wise is an ECU flash. "Want more power? Buy the Limited Exclusive POWER-DRIVE Premium Anniversary trim!" Or just buy an aftermarket reflash for a couple...

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

There's a big difference between "might not work" and "results may vary". They tell you "results may vary" when you buy medication, doesn't mean it doesn't work lol Guess we'll have to wait and see to be sure. :) More power. Not necessarily. The cars could probably put out a decent bit more...

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

It doesn't say that it "might not work" anywhere. The closest thing it says is results may vary. Well sure the factory CAN tune the cars to have a bit more power, but they don't. That's why this module exists - for the people willing to trade range/wear for speed. Because NOS is becoming...

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ci5hK9bt6Jw Here's a good video I found about the topic. The guy from EV West explains how a motor works but also gives some suggestions on how to squeeze more power out of an electric drive.

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

Depending on just how much farther you push the car past stock, gains can be a lot more than a "few tenths". As people start modifying EVs (and blowing them up in the process), we will get a better idea of what components can withstand. Sort of like how many engine blocks can withstand way more...

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

Most notably the state of the art motor and high discharge battery pack. Well, I guess I'll give you that one. Are you saying it's impossible to get a motor from one car to run off the battery from another? It isn't. It's been done many times. Aren't the Tesla modules and Volt modules the...

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

It would be software based, not hardware. 057 just does controllers. The reason being that the components that allow a Tesla to do 0-60 in under 3 seconds cost a lot of money. Just as the engine in a Lamborgini Huracan costs way more than the engine in a Nissan Altima. High performance parts...

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

A tuner is someone who improves the performance of a car. At least, that's what I mean when I say "tuner". This isn't necessarily limited to the powertrain, but that is what I was referring to. I...actually agree. Less people can afford to so less people do it. But you seemed to imply that...

How Will Electric Vehicles Be Modified in the Future?

You're taking things too literally. Okay, let's reword that then. Tuners will always try to improve the performance of their cars. Better? You specifically cherry-picked a car that is extremely limited production and very expensive. Yes, they do. You're just denying reality now. People do. Or...
