Advice on big wheel e scooter?

These are not kids toys. Electrified big wheel scooters are proper transportation devices for grown ups. The great thing about them is their simplicity, there is so little to go wrong. No gears, no chain, etc etc. I have several e-bikes and they are great, but I have to be constantly adjusting...

Advice on big wheel e scooter?

I also forgot to mention, I attached a tow hook to the back so I can tow a trailer with it. Then I can go to the shops and take the recycling away without having to use the car.

Advice on big wheel e scooter?

It's a thought, but I didn't want to spend money on parts if I could avoid it! :) I did it as an experiment to start with then it worked so well I left it alone. It looks weird, but it's a massive improvement. Probably with optimal parts it could be made to look better. Keeping your weight back...

Practicalities of running a KT controller without an LCD

I'd like to run my controller without having to rely on having an LCD screen connected all the time. Most of the time I have no need for it and can get the info I need from the separate ODO and voltmeter I have. I own several e-bikes and it's also getting expensive to keep buying these LCDs...

Advice on big wheel e scooter?

Here is my "Super Scooter" It is built from an Osprey Apogee: It's a very cheap 26" front 20 inch rear scooter. Electric scooters are illegal in the UK, so I bought it there and brought it with me to Scandinavia, where electric scooters are legal and did the conversion. Ospreys are cheap...

‘A Dangerous Combination’: Teenagers’ Accidents Expose E-Bike Risks' A New York Times Article

But will it be for all classes of e-bike, or just ones that can exceed 20 mph?

‘A Dangerous Combination’: Teenagers’ Accidents Expose E-Bike Risks' A New York Times Article

Is this going to happen? Or is it just media hype? Does it mean all e-bikes will need a driver's licence, or just those in higher classes? https://ebiketips.road.cc/content/news/california-e-bike-licence-law-in-the-pipeline-4697

My first ebike build: custom-built KMX-based electric velomobile

I see :) I am thinking about taking a couple of front callipers and combining them by making a "T" connector, so they connect to a single brake lever. When there are two paths I wonder how easy it is to bleed down. I suppose you have to bleed one arm and then the other and hope nothing floats...

New brakes look good, how easy is it to bleed the system down?

My first ebike build: custom-built KMX-based electric velomobile

I see your point. I have gone around in circles for years trying to decide what to do and in the end not built anything. Having a shell on a frame gives excellent flexibility, but I worry how easy it is to keep the weight under control. So many of these designs I've seen have rapidly ended up at...

My first ebike build: custom-built KMX-based electric velomobile

What are your thoughts on not having a frame at all, but having a monocoque body which everything bolts to? If you are going to have a protective body anyway, would it end up being lighter?

I've seen steering dampers being sold by several sellers in China for the KMX. Do you think they are any use, or just extra dead weight?

Safe battery use in the cold

I put my bike into a warm place when I get home, but not too warm then give it a couple of hours before I re-charge. Yes, would like to make it easier to remove, but that means designing and making a new mounting system - which I should of done during the summer when the weather was warmer :)

Thanks! That's really useful info. So no need to worry until it gets close to -20C

Safe battery use in the cold

The outdoor temps are sub zero all day long at the moment. It's not easy for me to take the battery off the bike when I get to work and it stands all day outside, so even though the bike is stored in the warm over night and recharged above freezing, the trip home is with a sub zero battery. Has...

Yes, I've heard cable disc brakes need a lot of frequent adjustment. What do you think will be a good hydraulic option? Would something like the Shimano SLX M7000 be any good? What will you do about needing two front brakes on one lever? Can this be done easily with hydraulic systems on the market?

That's great to have the KMX back on the road and now getting its long awaited upgrades :D Can't wait to see it! At the weekend I started assembling the bits of the Kobra kit I have recently bought. It doesn't come with any brakes other than some brake handles. What sort of braking set up...

My first ebike build: custom-built KMX-based electric velomobile

KMX are still around. They got knocked sideways by Covid and then the company got taken over by a different owner. So they are in a state of re-organisation. They are still happy to ship stuff to the US, although from recent experience, it seems to take a long time to arrive at it's final...

Chipping of Cyclists and Pedestrians in the US

Is this for real? When I first read it, I had to check the date wasn't April 1st: https://www.forbes.com/sites/carltonreid/2021/11/06/bidens-12-trillion-infrastructure-bill-hastens-beacon-wearing-for-bicyclists-and-pedestrians-to-enable-detection-by-connected-cars/ Will this really go ahead?

    KMX Front Suspension for sale

I gave them a call today and they said it is possible that they still have the part you need for your trike, but they would need the specific model name and approximate year it was bought and also a photo of the broken part. Then they could track down whether the part is still available. They...

I'm in the UK and have been following your KMX thread with interest. If they are not responding to your email, would you like me to phone them to see if the parts are still available?

Running parallel battery pack. I need help please.

People have been using Schottky diodes for quite a while to connect up battery packs in parallel. Now you can use "ideal diode" modules to do the same thing, with lower losses.
