    Overvolting BBS02

The shunt resistor - How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod, calculate value as desired. I have two Bafang BBSHD / Luna Ludicrous V2 controller builds (here and here). To maintain acceptable reliability, there's more to it than just bolting up the controller - riding habits, PEEK gear, rotor, chain...

    Overvolting BBS02

The (a?) version of the open source firmware & related tuning software is BBS-FW, available here, and the author of it posts about in on the forum, here. Is there a video specifically on installing and using BBS-FW? Not that I've seen, but there is this video that goes over using loading and...

At what point do you draw the line on minimum tire diameter?

Hi @moped-dan - IIRC, stock M6 hex cap bolts in cup-like fittings that came with the Surly 135mm-wide hub. Surly hub & fork, not bike BTW - I cracked up the bike's original fork.

2022 Velo Orange Neutrino minivelo, Nine Continent RH212 rear hub motor

Thanks! I need to do some more wiring positioning dress-up, among things (ergonomics too) - the fiddling never ends. Now's a good time to do it, with days of rain in the forecast.

2022 Velo Orange Neutrino minivelo, Nine Continent RH212 rear hub motor

Thanks @chuyskywalker - Grin turned on regen, and I saw the message pop up on the display when I braked - a first for me, being a mid-drive owner/rider mostly. I didn't know about the backpedaling trick - thanks!

BBSHD error 30 even after disconnecting all the wires. Is the controller fried?

My take is, "sure, why not", but I'm hoping somebody else chimes in here or on your other thread a knowledgeable yay/nay confirmation.

At what point do you draw the line on minimum tire diameter?

@neptronix, have you seen the Schwalbe Super Moto (not X) tire line (in 20" 27.5/650B, and 28/700C)? I've got a pair on my packhorse bike, and IMO they're very moto-ish for a bicycle tire: Why Schwalbe didn't give these tires a name distancing these tires from their Super Moto X line, I dunno.

2022 Velo Orange Neutrino minivelo, Nine Continent RH212 rear hub motor

The bike's not done (when are they ever?), but today I took it out for a shakedown. I still need to order/install a second torque arm (P.S. - done), but I think otherwise, the bike is close. Grin did a great job pre-configuring the Baserunner, and I only had to fiddle with a few things, such as...

    CYC PHOTON

The CYC Ride Control application (Android and iOS) allow calming down the throttle ramp-up and max power - to a degree. It's not a flexible as Luna's V2 app IMHO, but it does help: There are also some tweaks that can be made to the BBS02, via the stock and open source firmware &...

BBSHD error 30 even after disconnecting all the wires. Is the controller fried?

The USB controller programming cables (with the blinky L.E.D.s) would give you a visual confirmation of the data comings and goings.

2022 Velo Orange Neutrino minivelo, Nine Continent RH212 rear hub motor

Yup - these 19mm Honda wrenches can be had for around $5, and stubby combination wrenches for not much more: There's also lightweight chainsaw wrenches - if I could find one with 19/10mm ends that would be better:

2022 Velo Orange Neutrino minivelo, Nine Continent RH212 rear hub motor

Not easily @E-HP, because the sliding dropouts won't just slide out rearward while still bolted to the motor - they're captured into the corresponding frame fixtures. I found and am using 19mm nuts now, doubled up - I'd just like to find better ones. Flats happen, often in a blistering sun, and...

2022 Velo Orange Neutrino minivelo, Nine Continent RH212 rear hub motor

Hi @99t4 - this frameset has sliding rear dropouts from I.R.C., I think - they're similar to ones made by Paragon Machine Works. Similar, but not exactly the same dimensions 'cause that would be standardization, and we can't have that! Sliding, rocker, or other interchangeable or replaceable...

2022 Velo Orange Neutrino minivelo, Nine Continent RH212 rear hub motor

Thanks @nicobie for the note/confirmation - the other thing the second torque arm would do is further trap the axle in the dropout, like the right side one does. Fixing a rear tire flat roadside will be a PITA anyway, so what's a little more hardware to fiddle.

2022 Velo Orange Neutrino minivelo, Nine Continent RH212 rear hub motor

For the rear disc caliper, I ended up with a sub-$10 BUCKLOS single-sided actuation mechanical unit that clears the motor casing, and with a smallish 160mm rotor that clears the kickstand. The front brake on my bikes is my go-to, so I'm generous up front with big rotors, better calipers, and...

2022 Velo Orange Neutrino minivelo, Nine Continent RH212 rear hub motor

Here's an in-progress build update on the "little friend" or "little terror" - most of the parts are on, but just loosely bolted up. I need to source a rear disc brake caliper that clears the motor housing (my go-to TRP Spyre caliper does not), and there are a few other straggler parts, as is...

    CYC PHOTON

Sorry for the troubles, @nervagon - I've not seen that behavior from my motors, which I've run up to an indicated 200+F. I'm speculating that perhaps the motor core temp sensor is failing, or perhaps the related spring loaded contact pins are not making good connections. By chance, did you...

2016 Salsa Marrakesh flat bar frameset, Bafang BBSHD & Luna Ludicrous V2, Shimano Alfine 8 IGH

Hi, yep, the Luna V2 controller can top out the motor way faster than I can pedal - I'd estimate over 180 RPM/cadence.

Best IGH for BBSHD powered recumbent trike?

What he said, and where I ventured to place my hub motor order. I think they'll have everything you need as a kit for your mechanic, with quality parts, wheel building, and the battery too. Their Weinmann DM30 rim may match up cosmetically. You may just want to email them (terrain, HEAT...

Best IGH for BBSHD powered recumbent trike?

Oh, I agree - crazy, YMMV, don't try this at home, and all of the like caution phrases and disclaimers. I thought I'd wreck the Alfine 8 on the Luna BBSHD-powered bike (limited to 50 amps, and gentle motor ramp-up) in short order, but haven't yet. My Rohloff / Luna BBSHD-powered bike (60 amps)...

Best IGH for BBSHD powered recumbent trike?

I hesitate to respond with my own, personal IGH experiences because as both @neptronix and @amberwolf already wrote, most of the established (and reasonably priced) IGH hubs aren't rated for the full BBSHD grunt, if rated at all. But ... this is a forum for real-world experiences and/or...

Bikeon, "cassette drive" torque sensing motor

Aram, thanks for joining the discussion. I watched your installation video and saw that the motor clamps around the largest rear cog, and the current cog fitment range appears to be, 25, 28, 30, 32, 34, and 36 (via individually available sized rotors). Does the derailleur stop screw then need...

2020 Velo Orange Neutrino minivelo, Bafang BBS02 and CYC Photon, Shimano Alfine 8 IGH

It's not bad at all with a standard backpackload of clothes and the typical other mess. I've tried with a heavy ~50lb grocery load, which made it overly squirrelly and it's not what I'd want to ride long-distance, day after day - so there's a limit. I'm getting used to the weight sway-induced...

2020 Velo Orange Neutrino minivelo, Bafang BBS02 and CYC Photon, Shimano Alfine 8 IGH

Thanks much for the note - I hope to be able to Amtrak the bike from where I live on the East Coast to Pittsburgh, ride the bike to D.C. (using one of the route travel services and charging at B&Bs overnight), then Amtrak back. Some clumsiness in the Amtrak schedule from D.C. to Pittsburgh may...

    2018 Crust Evasion step-thru, BBS02, Shimano Alfine 8 IGH

Big Apple and Fat Frank, 2.0 versus 2.35 inches wide, but I also had them on different width rims. I'd say the Fat Frank is slower, quieter, and perhaps because of the volume, softer across short nasty stuff like asphalt pavement root heaves. I didn't experience a flat with either, and can only...
