Awesome, looking forward to that info...!

Great vid eh!! My favorite part was at about 3:50 in where the big guy crossing the street in front of you thought that he had more time and started to scurry at the end...

    SOT-227b Based 6 FET XIECHANG

np, RK I think that we would be extremely fortunate to get 100V to 200V, 200A out of a 6 FET/IGBT bridge with proper cooling. I am approaching this from a very simple perspective. It is extremely hard, IMHO, to try and fight this problem using a large number of small paralleled fets for a...

    SOT-227b Based 6 FET XIECHANG

RK, Yes, you could do what you proposed and probably come up with some results. There are several issues at play, One issue is the size of the die size of the fets. The bigger the die size generally, the bigger the capacitance on the gates. The bigger the capacitance, the longer it takes...

Awesome new FET package :) :) :) Not a geek? you won't care

Camlight, If you are going to order a bunch of these fets, you can talk to IXYS direct. I looked at going direct and you only needed to put down ~$2000, which was definitely more parts than I needed. But if you have a project... Mindshare Technical Sales is an IXYS rep...they may be able to...

    SOT-227b Based 6 FET XIECHANG

Ratking, Sure, you just need to strip the fet drivers off an RC controller and drive the new fet bridge with appropriate FET drives. As easy as that sounds, it's a fair amount of work until we come up with logic level FET Bridge As an example, most of the BLDC development kits allow you to...

Awesome new FET package :) :) :) Not a geek? you won't care

Yea, like that slug of copper heat sink in my SOT227 thread... The SOT227 is still easier to tie into a busbar... IXYS is definitely a forerunner in the FET arena..

Awesome new FET package :) :) :) Not a geek? you won't care

Gotta love the DCB packages! Great find, I think that this part is going to be a winner and probably alot cheaper than the SOT227b. Solder a 1"x1" heat sink on each fet and you'll be golden!!

Interest in a "Power Board" devkit for homebuilt controller?

very cool Mauimart, If we can create a brain board with power supply out of the a devkit reference design that would be great! Good luck with your designs Rhitee05! That would be cool if we could come up with a controller interface standard between the board you come up with and the board...

    SOT-227b Based 6 FET XIECHANG

Thanks Microbatman, For 100V to 200V , 200A size controllers, the ISOBLOC package is hard to beat. If we make a modular system, with the fet drive mounted right on top of the package, in a 2 fet phase leg configuration, then they can stack 6, 12, 18 fets, and drive huge currents, 200A, 400A...

    SOT-227b Based 6 FET XIECHANG

I need to send an email to e-crazyman, and see if he'll build the 6 fet with "no loads" on the gate drive section. That way, we don't have to spend alot of time reworking boards, and just hook the microcontroller outputs to the ADUM6132 fet drives.

    SOT-227b Based 6 FET XIECHANG

Yes, yes, you bring up one of my dilemmas. I'm thinking that it may be a good idea to just do a phase leg board driver. There are a bunch of options, but the ADUM6132 seems like such a good fit...I have to check on the isolation...what kind of voltages can you run with this little guy...

    SOT-227b Based 6 FET XIECHANG

    I found a great new shunt from Vishay that makes it easy to integrate with my bolt down design. WSM5515 shunts are available in several sizes. L1600 = 0.00016 Ω L2000 = 0.00020 Ω L2500 = 0.00025 Ω L3000 = 0.00030 Ω L5000 = 0.00050 Ω http://www.vishay.com/docs/30135/wsms5515.pdf

    SOT-227b Based 6 FET XIECHANG

Like others on this forum, I want an independent power board. The idea is to be able to drive the power board with small signals, like TTL, or maybe the existing gate drive on the XIECHANG. I've been chipping away at a PCB that has 14A peak gate drive chips (the 5 pin through hole part...

Beta Testers Wanted On Updated Lyen Controller Program @370A

I used to use Frontline Serial spy to do similar captures...but you have to buy it.. I was just a matter of having two serial ports. We'd tap the TX and RX and send them both to the RX line on the RS232 ports on the PC. Realterm (freeware) may provide power enough data capture utilities to do...

3 speed hub as jackshaft. Questions?

Matt, I'm looking forward to what you come up with here! Interesting ideas regarding the backdriving. I like the idea of using the input as the output in order to have a lower friction freewheel.... But wouldn't the friction be the same, as it's still spinning the same bearings? I guess...

    Catrike Three Speed

Katou, First I bored the clearance holes for the double bearing blocks. This was probably the original source of error. IFIRC, I drilled a pilot hole and tried to transfer it from one side to the other. I should have used a long piece of drill rod, and a machinists square to keep the pilot...

    Catrike 700-E build

Looks great Matt! Question, how are you going to keep the drive from spinning on the 2" tube? Does the mount clamp tight enough? I think I'm going to put a cross bar that ties into the seat frame.

    Catrike Three Speed

thanks for the advice, I think that I will try a combination of things. -Oval the hole slightly trying to retain enough clearance to the holes. -Precision Drill rod -rotate the housing 45 and drill/tapping new holes.

    Catrike Three Speed

The left and right bearing blocks that support the jackshaft are off axis. This causes the jackshaft to bind. Would self alignment style bearings help fix it? That would probably require self-alignment bearings on both ends of the shaft. I need some help with ideas on how to fix it. :|...

Help with high-side "smart" fet driver solution.

check out IXYS again... 30A peak drivers IXDD430 They work in conjunction with IXBD4410 low side, IXBD4411 high side, and the dead time generator IXDP631. I'm looking at using them right now.
