Amberwolf disappearance and newbie help requests :(

Yeah, knowledgebase. The system i'll be proposing next week allows ES to limit who can organize and who can edit according to the forum's permissions system. That's how we keep the lunatics from running the asylum :)

    CYC PHOTON

CYC really pulled one over on people with this motor if it's running 64C at rated power in slightly above laboratory 'ambient' temperatures. 64C at medium load tells me we have an inefficient stator and adding volts to the motor will likely not improve the situation as it did with the BBSHD. I...

Damn, that's worse than i thought it would be.

Problems using a standard wind motor with 20" wheel

If you can go with a 24" wheel, then you can make pretty good use of a geared motor. Shengyi SX2 is the current power:weight:efficiency ratio champion in that size. About 7lbs.

    'lightest.bike' 1.7kg 1000w mid drive

Looked over the most recent box. Included the pas sensor, a 135mm BB, and a few pages of instructions with QR codes. I apparently didn't order a throttle. Nervagon, where can i get the model you have?

eCumbent Bike - MAC Motor 8T - New Controller options

ebikes.ca sells tons of them. Including the cases. em3ev uses similar cases and may be compatible. If you are pushing any kind of power i would consider running the controller outside of the case for best heat dispersion. ebikes.ca sells a few mounts.

    'lightest.bike' 1.7kg 1000w mid drive

Q: Bikee is delivering the parts needed for dual-chainring with external PAS? Yes. I have them. Q: The necessary firmware update can now be done via the app? I'm told this is the case but haven't attempted it yet. Q: The final solution for dual-chainring ended up being simple cadence-based...

eCumbent Bike - MAC Motor 8T - New Controller options

The sad thing is that lipos haven't moved on. We can buy 290whr/kg 21700's today, but the best lipo i've seen is somewhere around 170whr/kg. I remember 20AH 46v filling out my biggest triangle bag. Now i have a 52v 19.5ah battery with 21700's that consumes 70% of that space despite the...

Problems using a standard wind motor with 20" wheel

Geared motors are typically very noisy and inefficient in a 20" wheel. I have not seen a single one designed with the appropriate gear ratios for smaller wheels. An additional problem is that the gear friction is now much higher per RPM than it was designed for. When cruising on the flat (...

eCumbent Bike - MAC Motor 8T - New Controller options

You don't need to switch your battery but it is an option to fit the controller into the battery case. I dunno the specifics as i have a phaserunner.

Amberwolf disappearance and newbie help requests :(

A KB and wiki are two different things. I'd also be very against using wiki software. It failed for us too. Tons of functional deficits in navigation and editing makes it hard for users to find information and hard for contributors to maintain/create/organize information.

    'lightest.bike' 1.7kg 1000w mid drive

I have everything i need from the bikee boys at this stage. Currently focusing on getting the bike with the all axle hub up and running. Two wires to solder and one frame bag to modify and we should be up and running on that bike and on to the next. I've got all the issues with the recumbent...

Looking for recommendation on first Ebike conversion kit

I remember seeing that thread, and it was sad to see. All the good FS bikes were built in the 2000's, all out of aluminum. Newer ones only fit a mid size battery, and that wouldn't be big enough for OP's needs. Some ingenuity would be required to fit >= 0.75 kw-hr of battery. 29ers typically...

Amberwolf disappearance and newbie help requests :(

Yeah i think that a KB could be used to both lower the time cost of an ebike education, and also have a giant FAQ section that we can literally just copy and paste links to, so it would lower the time cost of helping newbies massively too. An even more interesting feature would be to add a...

Successor to the infineon clone controllers in the 1000-2000w power range?

Read a ton of threads about sabvotons. Many reports of reliability problems and not many reports about good reliability. Field weakening, or a week of use seems to kill them. Fardriver? Not seeing any data on ES on their ebike sized controllers. TBH, not very appealing packaging on these...

    Favourite high power hub motor?

True, and it's not as bad as their narrower motors. For example the H35 35mm .35mm lam crystalytes were ~85% efficient. Cromotor ( 50mm ) could hit ~91% peak efficiency and Grin's 45mm fatbike motor can hit 90.1% peak. Okay, UFO motors aren't so bad, 6.5kg is 14.33lbs, getting 2kw-ish out of...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Great info! Seems they tuned 4T down the winding, which is a good thing. 4mm^2 i think translates to 12 gauge wire which is actually what i ran on mine.

    Hub motor suddenly starts thump-thump-thimp

How long are these hills? are we talkin' about anything that would tire you out on a regular bike ( sans kids? ) Heat may be a contributing cause of death to the gears due to the high weight, if hills are prolonged. I think the weight is the bigger problem. On a yuba, more of your rider weight...

    Hub motor suddenly starts thump-thump-thimp

For this power range, if you don't have major hills to deal with, a Shengyi SX2 from ebikes.ca would be a nice replacement, only a hair heavier and only has one set of gears, very efficient too. But the total loaded weight of the bike is worrying and i wonder if a any geared motor outside of a...

If there are any gear fragments hanging around, that needs to be removed asap.. and could possibly be blocking the gears.

    Hub motor suddenly starts thump-thump-thimp

I don't see this knick. Once gears start to go, things get worse quickly. TBH, this motor is a dual reduction type and these are even less durable than the typical geared motor and you've got heavy weight. You could replace this but you will need to do this often. Unsure about the replacement...

Want to move away from Proprietary to Mainstream

That's prebuilts for ya, they remove all the information on your components so you can be beholden to them for parts. You are lucky if you can get one ID'd, you're usually out of luck because there's hundreds of Chinese makers of parts out there, many are short lived. I got support for my...
