CYC Photon VS BBS02 many opinions appreciated please.

IMO the key point is do you want a CYC torque sensor so it rides like a real bike, or do you want a BBS PAS that doesn't? Pretty simple. Don't believe all the reports of Photon heat issues... at least if you are a pedaler of a bike and not a throttle jockey.

Bikeon, "cassette drive" torque sensing motor

I have never seen a phone that didn't work as a BT or WiFi device without mobile service. But I suspect you are asking about the app. If it needs to "phone home" to BikeOn to fully function that would require service. Which would be another non-starter.

Bikeon, "cassette drive" torque sensing motor

Well, no. I'd have to find some sort of mount for it... and how do I change assist levels whilst riding on a device that probably can't be read in sunlight and only has some awkward tiny soft buttons?

    'lightest.bike' 1.7kg 1000w mid drive

If it's like the CYC X1s and Stealths a lot of the noise comes from gearbox and extra chain. Not sure much can be done about that. CYC sure can't solve that problem no matter how much they claim each new gen is "quieter".

    CYC PHOTON

Not really. I am already very comfy with the 175s. As for spinning vs leverage these seem right for me and I never had trouble spinning to whatever RPM I need. No different on an e-bike, for me anyway. Thanks for the BB design info. It might be a good idea to lay in a spare at some point if...

    CYC PHOTON

I have to leave it until July, new hip and all. At 6 weeks post surgery I am riding indoors and it feels great and I could easily ride outside... except the hip joint implants need 12 weeks to join with the bone enough to resist any impacts. As unlikely as falling is, it is a risk that I won't...

    CYC PHOTON

I checked it today as I walked by the bike in my workshop. The right bolt was tight and the left was just a tad loose. Well, not really loose, it was "snug" and I got maybe 5 degrees of tightening on it. The arm itself had no play on the shaft.

    CYC PHOTON

I visited their website and they look pretty good but holy cow they have a ton of different ISIS crank models with many the same price so I am not sure what the differences are... although maybe that is the length and offsets offered in each? But IDK. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me that...

    CYC PHOTON

So, you worked on it all afternoon... for what problem?... and it was still broken? Chalo the legend failed? ;-)

    CYC PHOTON

That's fair. I don't think I would have tried to use a Photon for a cargo bike, personally. I am not a small person at 200 pounds (would like to be 185!) but my Photon is on a fairly light aluminum hardtail and I mostly do fast unloaded road rides. Plus I am a strong pedaler, so usually run...

    CYC PHOTON

Yes, mine seems to run a little high, IIRC, but I'm not sure it is a whole V. I don't remember, exactly since it has been a while since I have ridden the bike. Winter... then I had a hip replacement on April 10. It already feels good enough to ride the bike, even a plain old pedal bike, but...

    CYC PHOTON

Yup, if you recall I had a defective SW102 display with mine and it took a couple of months to get replaced. Really pissed me off. I also have a friend who got a pair of Photons for he and his wife and his had a bad controller. He was pissed, of course, but they sent him a new one and he said...

    CYC PHOTON

The TSDZ2 hater awakes! Meanwhile mine never broke in use. Go figure. I did break that teeny janky torque sensor wire once while doing some maintenance... that probably didn't actually need to be done.

Sounds more like the TSDZ2 haters lounge now morphing into CYC! ;0. BTW, I hate Tesla.

    CYC PHOTON

These hater threads crack me up. I have had a TSDZ2 (with cooling mod) and now CYC Photon on my Cannondale F1000 with 1.75" city treaded tires. With either of these "terrible motors" I can go out and ride my rolling 30 mile loop with 2000' of climbing at a 25 MPH average if I try... which...

    CYC PHOTON

The only way I have hit thermal limits with my Photon is by using full throttle in race mode. As I have explained before I have a run on a fairly busy and flat to rolling road where I ride at max pedaling speed on the shoulder, then to work traffic to make a left turn I often need engage the...

    CYC PHOTON

Mainly because I have done similar and haven't seen the same behavior. I haven't done a long 10%er, but have done long 5%ers at much higher speeds and in high east coast summer ambients and not reached such high internal temps nor had thermal throttling. But if I ever run into that problem...

    CYC PHOTON

You're asking the wrong guys. They are old hub motor guys or folks who want to charge up 10%+ grades for miles at full speed in the dead of summer. Photon is a really good light weight mid drive. TSDZ2 and such work well, too. These both work fine for general purpose rolling riding... even...

Bikeon, "cassette drive" torque sensing motor

I don't need all those things displayed at once whilst riding. Just assist level, speed and battery voltage. I guess I really don't even need speed on the e-bike display since I always will be running my Garmin... but that seems to be required for the higher 28 mph speed limit. The...

Bikeon, "cassette drive" torque sensing motor

I would now, too... except the phone thing. It would be perfect for my Lynskey gravel bike. Even then I might still try one if it were clear that there was a path to backfit a handlebar display in the future. But I suspect that might not happen until there is a V2 since it would need some...

anyone here done CYC X1 Pro Gen 2 to Gen 3 full upgrade?

If your Gen2 has a fair amount of wear it might make more sense to just get a new Gen4 kit. I wouldn't take the expense of all those upgrade parts only to have the motor fail. IMO. It would be nice if they made the upgrades more attractive, for sure. Having said that, the controller only...

anyone here done CYC X1 Pro Gen 2 to Gen 3 full upgrade?

I believe 999zip999 is on a bit of a sabbatical. Hopefully he will be back soon. Meanwhile: CYC X6 Controller Upgrade Kit | cycmotor As for the other parts see page 1, post #2. I don't know why CYC don't list this stuff directly. Just ask them about what you want and they will give you a...

Bikeon, "cassette drive" torque sensing motor

I'd pick one up now if it had a way to be fully functional without needing a phone on my handlebars. That qualifies as a showstopper for me. I guess I could have the app running with the phone in a pocket... but then wouldn't be able to change assist levels or monitor battery status without...

Bikeon, "cassette drive" torque sensing motor

Oh, one other thing the display needs is some measure of battery status. A simple voltage reading would be fine for me, or perhaps a SOC reading. Just so you know when you need to head back to the barn.

Bikeon, "cassette drive" torque sensing motor

I would like to see a very simple display, something like an EggRider/SW-102 and have that really simplified to just doing the assist levels and speedo display. No need to over complicate it and try to do too much with it. Then continue to use the phone app via BT when not riding to make the...
