Re: Looking to build an eBike

RV'ers and aeroplane fliers maybe into small folding 20" bicycle. You wouldnt know when their riding around and I dont see many around when I am riding but I do see them more closer to downtown so add condo's to the list. Oh and dont forget sailboat owners. By "suitcase bike", I don'...

Re: Looking to build an eBike

Would the frame I linked in my first post be ok to start with? Once I have the frame I can start planning how I am going to fit the battery and BMS (and everything else) I don't see why not. Suitcase bikes don't seem to vary as much in quality as traditional bikes, so as long as you get one with a ...

Re: Looking to build an eBike

Yeah, suitcase bikes like that aren't for pedaling. It's awkward and non-intuitive to do so when you're riding one. They're even heavier than they must be to support so much motor and battery, and not nearly as strong as their weight would suggest. Riding one with pedal power only is something you'd...

Re: Looking to build an eBike

If you put a big heavy battery pack like that on your bike, you won't pedal it enough to get meaningful exercise. A fat heavy powerful e-bike discourages vigorous pedaling. You may think you'll do it, but you'll quickly fall out of the habit because pedaling doesn't really make any difference. Pedal...

So why are you planning to use vape pen cells instead of cells that match the application?

So what's the advantage over a two wheeled cargo bike, to justify the extra expense, weight, inefficiency? https://richmondcyclecentre.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/surly-big-dummy-1000x1000.jpg http://www.ev-solutions.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/358-bakfiets-2017-001-cargobike-short-classic...

do you know how much it will cost? I do! More than a two wheeler that does the same thing. One of the main goals of engineering is to meet the project's requirements with a minimum outlay of money and resources. So the question is, what is the requirement here? Re: Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.

That's remarkable efficiency for a street legal car. I'm a little surprised that you can't buy a car with this kind of simple but effective improvements directly from the manufacturer. Given that you can get "sports", "racing", and "off road" packages for vehicles that ...

Re: Giant cruiser budget build

over three trips my average has been 33.2 whr/mi. This is with speeds in the 20-25 range and about 50% pedaling time. It still seems a bit high, and I'm starting to think that the cheapo controller is a major factor. I really doubt it; there's negligible difference in efficiency between the cheapes...

Why not? I guess drivers aren't stupid and antisocial enough with the way-too-much horsepower they already have. If you can get good concentricity, alignment, strength, and wear life out of your 3D printed design... well let's just say I'll be very surprised. Chain is stronger, easier, more fault tolerant, and just works better, but you can't manage to get that working right. I'm skeptical that you would succe...

Re: new eZip motor

I am desperate as sick and tired of chain drives. I know belt is smoother and better and no chain issues with alignment. Most everyone has recommended that your chain drives were much more trouble than they are worth. Belt drive will not change that, because it's even more sensitive to setup and al...

3000W with rim brakes? weld a mount for a disc brake Good rim brakes kick ass. Lame disc brakes don't. It isn't a simple matter of swapping one for the other. Disc brakes well hydraulic disc brakes are superior in every aspect. You're wrong, and all you're demonstrating is that you haven't tried ve...

Re: Overvolting 24V hub controller.

Low powered mass market controllers like that are so cheap that the best way to find out is to try it. If it pops, then you know, and you get another one. But it's a potted controller, so nobody can see any of the components to make an educated guess about it.

You can make torque arms that bolt into the fork ends, but have the inside measurement you need. 25mm thickness per side gives you plenty of room to make them clamp the axle flats.

Yeah, not only is 40 mph way too fast for a small wheeled bike that doesn't let you stand up on the pedals, but just having that capability will most likely reduce acceleration, climbing, and overall efficiency when it's operating in a more workable speed range. I think Leaf 1500W is still a good ch...

Re: Bafang BBS02 gearing for 20" wheel

You have overconstrained your problem. Give up on either the chain case or the Dual Drive hub. I think you have a good application for Rohloff Speedhub ($$$$), Nuvinci/Enviolo ($$$), or Sturmey Archer RX series 5-speed hub (comparatively cheaper). These are the strongest internal gear hubs you can g...
