Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

Hi Fechter, the LEDs are just standard 10W and 1W white or red, as in my example here. In an old post I measured the Vf of different LEDs at different current draw. Seems like both the display and the controller logic are fed thru them, so display illumination level affects the draw. Consensus was t...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

This old BBSHD controller is fulfilled. It is my fourth tuned controller and it got the full overhaul. Tuned to the max and ready for 22S 92V 55A. BBSHD 22S 55A controller.jpg It will be an absolute beast and probably the most insane BBSHD with an original controller 😎 . I somewhat expect the motor ...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

Couchy, I have some thoughts on 100 V, as it might not be that difficult to do. First, I'd measure the voltage on the psu chip's Vcc voltage. If we're in luck, it's the same as displayed on the display (Vdrop mod). If not, it sees the pack voltage. I figure it's not the end of the world then, since ...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

Fechter, I actually managed to fit 1000 and 470 uF (both 100 V) inside the controller, as shown in my earlier post. They are both laid sideways, and it got MORE free space now than before the mod, and even the 470 is a step up from 220. 😎 Key is to remove the lighting circuit board (and reuse the wi...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

@ Fechter: Thanks again Fechter for the details about the analog shunt hack. I didn't pay it enough attention when it was first brought up earlier. There's possibly a small problem if you only increase the gain, rather than solder extra shunt resistors to halve the value from 0.0025 to 0.00125 Ohm. ...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

Hi all, It's been a long time since I or anyone for that matter contributed to this topic, and I've got some updates and good ideas. :) My stable BBSHD 18S 45A with NF75 FETs is still going perfect, and took the summer heat alright with up to 30 C ambient temperature. In the meantime I have modded t...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

I'd like to share some thoughts and feedback on several of the recent posts. Good to see things are still going :) Burner77's summary: For a 50A mod replace the 2x 5 mOhms on the rear side of the PCB with 2x 3 mOhms (Width: 3.18 mm Length: 6.35 mm, Height: 0.35 mm). Power can be lowered in programmi...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

The display is the DPC-14 aka C850 . Here are the pics and description from my memory. Have to say I managed to break a corner of the front glass, but luckily it doesn't affect anything. Display assembly description: The display is surrounded by a square removable plastic rim which is held in place ...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

I knew you'd gonna ask about that chip, which definitely looks a buck converter.
Unfortunately I don't have a better or clearer image, not even the original hi-res pic enhances it.

And I'm not going to open it up again now. 😛

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

Thanks for the circuits and insight, Fechter.

About the safety voltage drop, I was talking about the display, not the controller. I don't know if the display's caps and voltage controller can take damage, and that's what I was worried about :)

Wow nice one E-mil! What voltage did you run exactly ? (no load voltage) Thanks guys - it's always nice to have an audience however few we are upping the game for BBSHD! :) I have done two 5 km runs yesterday and today at resting voltage of approx 71 V, but the sag of 5-6 V at 45 A effectively remo...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

18S / 45 A -- IT'S WORKING ! Theoretically a power-up of 100% from 14S / 30A to at least 3 kW :P Had a short test earlier today. No misbehaving whatsoever, though batteries (14S + 4S) where at ca. 3.8 V/cell. I also mounted an external 470 uF cap just outside the controller, intravenously into the ...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

Thanks for quick answer! I managed to cram a 680uF in place of the 1000uF 63 V, and a 470uF in place of the 220uF 63 V. If the caps truly are connected in parallel their values will add up nicely already, but I will fit an external one as well, either at 470 or 680 uF. It took forever to replace the...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

Reentry into the controller again today, as I got most of the capacitors ordered. But I need help! The biggest problem is now to fit the cap(s) into the confined space between the other components in the controller and the motor housing itself. It seems that, with thorough measurements, it is possib...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

The questions about screws through the gear-plate have, strickly speaking, little to do with the purpose of the thread. ;) None the less it is an interesting take on a non-existing problem AFAIK, because as mentioned the motor turns TOWARDS (up against) the downtube. I know that Luna sells a long &q...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

Never seen that daughterboard either. Judging from the markings, a 6v regulator? But for what? Does yours have any extra wiring? Don't some have a lead for a light? Mind linking to the 100v caps you got? Yes, my BBSHD does have the 5-6 V light connector, but I use my own rather customized lighting ...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

Climbing the ladder! Yesterday I finally did the shunt mod. I reused a 5 mOhm shunt resistor from a dead smart-BMS, and soldered it on top of the two other on the backside of the controller. Everything works, so currently my BBSHD is running 15S 45A, and the boost is certainly noticeable! I started ...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod -- Voltage mod overview

So, I made this recap of the voltage mod options. Turned out to look too good not to share here.

What are your thoughts?

Preliminary BBSHD voltage mod overview.
Rather optimistic wattage rating disregarding voltage drops.
Color codes (assessed on a hunch):
Green: Good to go.
Yellow: Pay attention.
Orange: Possible dangers.
Dark orange: Even more so.

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

Today I have done the series resistor mod on the BROWN wire in the display cable, and added a switch to be able to change between mod or standard. I chose a resistor value of 68 Ohm for lowest possible watt-loss while still allowing the system to operate. The display draws around 50 mA at illuminati...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

HVC: At the moment I run it stock with 13S battery, but if possible would like to run it with 15S@30A, but if the controller/LCD cuts at 60V the charge would be a bit low for 15S, so 14S would be better. It's mentioned in this thread a HVC of 61.5V, but others have said that it will not run above 6...

Re: AliExpress battery sellers ?

Got my battery from UPP as well, on 11/11-2016 Aliexpress sale at the price of $508. It included charger, bag and customized XT-60 / XT-90S connectors. I had never had an ebike battery in my hands before this, but I'm very satisfied with the price and quality. After some cycles where the battery was...

Re: How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

Forgive my naivety, but could it be possible that the system shutoff at +60V is controlled by a simple voltage sensor lead?
Would it maybe be possible to cheat this by means of a voltage divider or something similar?
