Re: PING BATTERY OR NOT

It's a trade off. Big heavy bulk, longer life or smaller lighter and shorter life. You could still get a couple of years use. My Bosch battery on my Bosch Mid drive is 3 years old and I don't notice any loss of range, though I admit I haven't had the time to use it the last year and I store it aroun...

Re: PING BATTERY OR NOT

Are ping batteries still costing the same as they did 5 years ago ?

There's much better available now that are smaller and lighter.

Re: Bafang 1000w v Bosch and Yamaha

Bosh are limited by ridiculously low E.U power limits of 250 watts so they can only get so much torque, however they use tricks to fool testing equipment by delaying full power ramp up so they get away with 500 watts and about 750 peak..... I did'nt realize Bosch was owned by Volkswagon? ...

Re: Is this guy the expert he claims ?

I remember when playing around with LiPo that charging it cold didn't charge at the same C rate on the Icharger ? I never used temp sensors to charge LiPo. I'm also nearly sure I observe the Leaf charge at a higher rate in warmer weather , let me explain. Yesterday I charged the Leaf from almost 0% ...

Re: Is this guy the expert he claims ?

Maybe but it's the cells chemistry and internal resistance changes that allow Nissan to charge the 30 Kwh faster, this came from Nissan themselves. I'm not debating the charger limiting the power I know this from charging countless LiPo cells with balance chargers. But the "actual" limiting factors ...

Re: magic pie 2 problem 88V-45A

I was running 24S Lipo, crazy, had to limit the throttle and at that was still doing 40+ mph. I would just install new halls again, and go back to sensor controller. What happened the halls ? Great motor but watch steep hills with over 2.5 Kw. If you got steep hills then maybe best to get a smaller ...

Didn't matter for me, it would only work with one combo as far as I remember.

Here is this what you were hearing ? and then it won't accelerate more unless you back off the throttle ?

Re: Is this guy the expert he claims ?

Seems Nissan themselves varied that the chemistry and internal resistance is what allows the 30 Kwh to charge faster . I'm sure ye read the info on it and no need to link to it here.

Re: magic pie 2 problem 88V-45A

You need sensor controller above about 2.5 kw. I also experienced this.

At 3.5 kw this motor plies.

I'll see if I can find my old thread on the matter.

Re: Is this guy the expert he claims ?

Well , in the case of the Nissan leaf, charging does slow down noticeably even with a colder weather can see a 10-15 min increase in fast/DC charge times.

Regen also weakens as the battery ages.

And battery charge times increase on the DC charger also when the battery ages.

Re: Is this guy the expert he claims ?

So what If Dogman and I experience a sluggish LiPo pack for instance and there is no BMS in between what's causing the reduced performance ? and does the same not apply to the Leaf chemistry ? and I've never charged LiPo at high rates so probably never noticed any difference in charging but I'm gues...

Re: Is this guy the expert he claims ?

Hi Dogman, Exactly my observations with LiPo, can't remember the effects of cold on my old Ping. So I would assume the same thing going on with LiPo is the same observed when "charging" the Leaf on the ChADeMo fast charger ? as well as people suffering increased charge times which was observed in th...

Read this form . University of Wisconsin Milwaukee UWM Digital Commons It's not the only reference I can find on the subject either in relation to internal resistance, which is I presume related to the effects of cold on the chemistry itself. http://dc.uwm.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cg...46&context=etd Quo...

Re: Is this guy the expert he claims ?

Thanks for that Justin, How then do you notice a lot less amps can be drawn from a cold LiPo pack with no BMS doing any monitoring ? And so if the ramp down current on the Nissan Leaf At the chaDeMo chargerfor instance starts at about 60% for the sake of arguing that by 60 % it's pulling 35 Kw from ...

Re: Is this guy the expert he claims ?

My apologies for the confusion, like I mentioned before, I didn't bother to read that thread. The charger is always capable of whatever current it can deliver. When you plug into a cold pack, the BMS tells the CHAdeMO to not exceed some current value that is appropriate for that temperatures packs ...

Re: Is this guy the expert he claims ?

The thermal kinetics of the system determine the ion diffusion rate of lithium ions to migrate into the anode (ideally in an even distribution throughout the coating of active material) to intercalte into the carbons structure while charging. Temperature dependant thermal kinetics of ions and molec...

Re: Is this guy the expert he claims ?

The battery is temperature sensitive. People with the Model S have found that charging in low temperatures takes a lot longer than in higher temperatures - an effect that is increased with low charging rates. Some people have also reported that regenerative braking will not work in extreme cold wit...

Re: Is this guy the expert he claims ?

Does increasing internal resistance in the cold mean that the battery itself won't accept or demand the full charge current or is this controlled by the charger ?

Boat Mad also thinks internal resistance is meaningless because of the information in the below link and doesn't increase throughout the life of the battery.
