Re: Battery pack revision for Bosch 400

doing so would break the water seals, not something i recommend as the motor has zero protection for water or crap on the inside of the case. You might not even have to drill holes out of the case. There's likely some thickish power wires going to the unit. Those could be reused and sealed with RTV...

Re: StefEbike for my wonderful disabled wife

That sucks. At least it was a short walk of shame.. I have this roadbike collecting dust in my garage that maxes out at 700c x 28c. A majority of my flats were from pinch flats. Probably not a bad choice if you weigh 140lbs. But jesus, if we aren't riding the margins a little thin with such a ...

Re: Battery pack revision for Bosch 400

and how would you do that? the controller is inside the motor. i got a bunch of detailed photo's of most used mid drives and apart from the bafang they all have the controller on the inside on a extremely custom pcb. only the bafang is universal. If it has 3 phases, there's a way to drive it. Drill...

Option 3 is to bypass the proprietary stuff and free your bike like I mentioned.. IE run a new controller to the motor.

Re: Electrom1 Long Wheelbase Recumbent Light Electric Vehicle

You're right about the magic pie casting heat. It was my weapon of choice for the pike's peak hill climb in 2012 or so. http://neptronix.org/forumpics/pie_pirelli2.jpg I forgot about this factor. Yeah, your vehicle is over 100lbs fully assembled so you could use it. You can, however, get some of the...

Re: Electrom1 Long Wheelbase Recumbent Light Electric Vehicle

If i was you i'd offer a hub with very low rotating losses because you are using a 20 inch or smaller wheel after all. The magic pie for 20" never comes in the right winding and has higher eddy currents than 9C clones because of it's tall stator and additional poles over a 9C type design. The GMAC o...

Re: High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

Interesting, but being based on a lowracer is a big nono for visibility.
I have never seen a CLWB ( or something like it ) based velomobile. Taller.

Or something like what craig vetter designed. Tall, but still aerodynamic.

Re: Effect of holes in aluminum rigid fork?

That's just enough power that I would be worried about pretty much any aluminum fork.

There are conversion kits for these weird tapered headsets. I would go that route, plus a steel fork for peace of mind. Front forks are a weak spot on any bike anyway.

I think what you're trying to build is kinda cool. I always liked the idea of a minivelo type bike over a scooter/etc.
Best wishes with the build!

Re: Lightweight efficiency oriented BikeE conversion

Man, it's not a strong enough frame to be cutting up and drilling holes in, to be honest. It's a ~33lbs bike, which is pretty light considering how long it is, plus the fact that chromoly ( generally a bit heavier ) is used in the swingarm and headtube. The main tube is super light.. I think another...

Re: High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

Also , I would make a more simple version of the Velotilt , one that has more angular tubes so that instead of an expensive plug for a fiberglass/carbon fiber shell, you could just cut up cloroplast or better yet get some plexiglass and rivet that to the angular frame. ( look at the front end of on...

Re: Front suspension forks question

Oh, you can get away with that on something like a big ol' heavy or just long trike..

What i wouldn't do strong front regen on is a run of the mill 2 wheeler bike frame!

Also, that extended length springer fork bent at that insane angle gives me the heebie jeebies.

To build a very long wheel base recumbent and/or recumbent trike that is designed for back road vehicle speeds. Read : very stable bike at high speeds for a bicycle. Re: Battery pack revision for Bosch 400

Your Bosch has a special communication system between the battery and bike. Therefore, you need their BMS ( unless someone's hacked it! ). You're going to need to decide whether to stick with their parts, or dismantle their proprietary system and run a DIY setup to drive the bosch motor. Unless they...

Re: Ok, I bent the new rim... Looking for a stronger rim.

The best preventer of pinch flats and rim damage is as large of tires as you can stick on the bike, plus as high PSI as you can get.
Suspension will help do the job as well. But a large diameter of compressed air inside a tire is your best defense.

Re: High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

The BikeE is getting all the love as i build it's rear tail fairing; I have never ridden a bike with a rear tail fairing before, so i'm pretty excited to give it a spin. Given that the bikeE has a ~1ft shorter frame, i immediately had weight balance issues - on pedal power, the front wheel can lift ...

Re: High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

If it helps, you can have a custom spinner fork or a suntour xcm made in china. You could ask for a suspension fork with 85-90mm dropout and use an old road hub. That should help with pedal clearance. Though the brake rotor mount will need some modding. Thanks for the idea. I'm willing to use pad b...

You'd be better off mounting some new thin panel ones to a bike, for shade while riding too

Your bike would benefit vastly from some aerodynamic aids. Ever considered a windwrap fairing, or even a partial DIY coroplast fairing?
