Re: Move to XenForo software

So i had to write a poor man's profiler to get to the bottom of this. GD ( for writing jpegs to BMPs ) and exiftool were using a majority of the cpu time... both unlikely suspects! imagetender performance problem 2.png I found that GD's imagebmp ( writes a bmp file ) takes 20x more time to using ima...

Re: Moving servers today

I'm not convinced that such per post limits are effective... it is easy to circumvent by just posting another reply to a thread with additional images. It can be annoying if someone wanted to post a new complete build thread of their project rather than a thread added to over days or weeks. They're...

Re: Ivermectin/Covid info

Nice. Very smart on the NHS for looking into new/repurposed treatments more than any of their peers. In the phase III clinical trial of ronapreve aka regeneron, they said it reduced the hospital stay from 3 weeks to 1 week. Now imagine if you can roll that out across the world and then no longer hav...

Re: Rewind a cyclone 3kw motor for more power ?

Obviously, there is a practical limit to that, but: Just it is said, by rewinding the motor to 2x speed you can *nearly* get same torque at same heat loss (amps times phase resistance)... but than you have a motor with 2x top speed allowing you to slap on 2x mechanical gear reduction, that DOUBLES ...

Regen can be awesome if you have a strong pack. Used to use hobbyking lipos, with a 5C charge rate. No problem dumping 1000W into them. Eliminated my rear mechanical brake because it wasn't necessary anymore  great breaking!! Of course you want to tune this for an appropriate level per your bms...

Fark. The testing is only halfway done. WTF
It turns out using exiftool to detect jpeg rotation puts a >3x penalty on the speed of the process.
Process completion time is more like a week, instead of 29 hours.

Time to optimize further.

Re: Moving servers today

That's why systems like phpbb and xenforo are designed to put limits in at the stage of uploading. Which can be inconvenient to the user. That's why i put ~100 hours into writing a platform agnostic, after-the-fact image processor just for our form. But if a picture is 1000 words then 36 pictures is...

Yah.. that spray works topically so it will do some useful things in only certain areas..
I've actually tried the product for sinus issues and it fell on it's face for me. Not even an improvement over a neti pot.

You know, i stopped going out for food a while ago and only occasionally slip on that. Keto food at restaurants is either overpriced or rare to find anyway. I understand why you think AWS is a huge pain in the ass. I got thrown into the role of being a AWS server administrator in 2014, and had to learn how to work AWS the hard way. The learning curve is mondo. But.. knowing how to twiddle these knobs, some setups i'm responsible for *are* cheaper on AWS...

Re: How difficult is it to integrate a GMAC (rear) or Grin All Axle Hub motor (front) into a factory 250W Mid drive bike

Consider that both of these motors will add some continuous drag. So you'll want there to be a good reason to have that extra power. You'll probably also need a much more powerful battery to supply both.. two controllers.. and two throttles also. For me? i wouldn't really do it because the power wou...

By chance do you think the seat bars took the hit for you when you crashed?

..i was thinking some bars protruding outwards could really take the hit for you. You're in an optimal situation with your build to mess with such things.

Re: evaporative air cooling, made better than HVAC

Yup. Mini splits with reversible heat pumps are the most badass thing i've heard of, and i'm surprised they're not everywhere. What would be really cool is a combination evaporative and AC system that worked in different ratios depending on inside conditions. Could keep humidity and temperature cons...

Oh yeah it takes a while to get used to them. Good handlebar placement on CLWB bikes is critical and can make the difference between feeling like you're about to fall off and carving canyons confidently at low and high speeds. I put pretty wide handle bars on my CLWB bikes, and that alone improved t...

speed, high torque starting with a heavy load going up a hill? Or is it more related to the voltage / rpm curve? That's a good question, this figure is at a 0% grade in normal conditions. Once you get into different kinds of loads, the peak efficiency point can swing wildly. 1000W pulling up a grad...

Yeah and those factors will swing pretty much everything.
I'm talking about the most common use case.. 26 inch wheel, upright bike, average weight.

Look at the trend in most motor's dyno graphs.. peak efficiency happens between 60-80% of the rated continuous wattage.

Just received a new 1500W model set up for 25mph top speed (don’t need to go much faster on the cycle lanes near me). It’s nicely laced into a wide Mavic rim and appears to be very straight and true to my eye. The controller is a new model 18 FET with HY3208 FETs and caps rated to 80V. Darn, for 25...

Re: Rewind a cyclone 3kw motor for more power ?

Yet there are plenty of motors that run on super low voltages which are some of the most efficient in the world. Take an astro motor for example.. ultra low pole count.. sky high kV.. taps out at ~40 volts.. eats current for breakfast.. still the most efficient motor you could fit on a bike, a decad...
