Maybe you need to be protected from yourself, if you are so insecure as to believe that someone else not wearing a helmet is a threat to your well being.

Re: Well, it finally happened.......

There is only one sure way to save your head: don’t crash on your head. That is because the chances are high that someday, a helmet won’t suffice. Those who do crash on their head should avoid riding, or at least do it only in the safest situations. It is a natural propensity that is almost impossib...

Re: Purchasing a bike from Alibaba (12kw, 15kw) Leili

I’d say buy the complete bike first linked to, instead of an Chinese frame alone. Those new frames are much better than the usual Chinese box frames. The Sur-ron was a major improvement, only too small. Now that they make a bigger one, it sure does better and most if all faster. At least you will st...

A disc lock does good, and cutting it would damage the disc enough to make it jam in the caliper.

Re: E-bike Achilles heel?

Plain bikes are stolen much more than ebikes. The bigger risk is the bigger cost, not any extra risk to have it stolen. Yet, if your battery is obviously easy to clip off, better take it with you. Insurance is your solution if you are worried about the financial loss. My insurance did cover a stolen...

Re: Purchasing a bike from Alibaba (12kw, 15kw) Leili

It is true that Chinese frames quality is poor and subjected to almost no quality control. True also that most local ebike builders/sellers are offering Chinese crap at western prices. Someone who is not familiar with bike frames and components can be fooled easily into buying crap, when shopping fo...

Re: controller upgrade questions

Any controller can do for phases, halls, brakes and throttle. Only the connectors need to be replaced to match with many of them. The display is another story because there is no standard. Each manufacturer has his own display for his controllers, so it is better to buy the matching display if you a...

Re: Purchasing a bike from Alibaba (12kw, 15kw) Leili

This bike is a new model. Bigger and faster than a Sur-ron. Few buyers to collect feedback from. Seller might be unreliable. At twice the cost that it is on alibaba, the one that you tried was asking a fair price IMO. That is because he had paid extra cost of shipping and customs, then solved the pr...

... I stopped driving motorbikes after five near death experiences in a few years time. I figured there’s a sixth, a seventh and then someday it’s the real reaper coming. Of those five only one was my own fault. Well, the basics of riding safety is to consider that everything that happens is your o...

. Awareness is your best protection. Awareness sure is your best protection! Also being aware of the road condition. I don’t worry much about that, riding a bike with 10 inch suspension travel that is pretty fine hitting a pothole at 50 mph. The only road condition that really bothers me,...

Drivers are dangerous nowadays, because lots of them didn’t drive much last year. I don’t let any of them overtake me, not even coming close to my tail. I ride with the high beam headlights in the daytime, and keep looking all around to spot the idiots. Awareness is your best protection.

Re: Chinese quality mtb hubs?

Be careful where you start the lacing pattern, you don’t want the spokes to be interfering with the valve. That is a very common mistake with 3 cross lacing.

Re: Chinese quality mtb hubs?

Well I do some mountain bike trail riding but nothing too aggressive. Also what about riding at 50 mph on tarmac? I mean I don’t hold those speeds for long but I do get up to those speeds for brief periods. Do you think this hub would be strong enough to handle those conditions? I guess that’s my o...

Even old and abused, 40 $ bearings set and 15 minutes of work are making it just as new. Is this for sealed bearings or does it apply to [race, loose bb, and cone] bearings? They are all sealed bearings for a very long time. You can replace them with 3 different quality bearings commonly available,...

Re: Chinese quality mtb hubs?

Since you don’t ride the mountain trails, your front hub quality won’t make any difference. You don’t need the impact resistance of a pro DH hub, and still can use better bearings when they are due for replacement. Hope pro4 are not pro DH hubs despite their name, and are not so much better than Chi...

You don’t hire a US broker to buy one ebike kit in China. Talk about containers. Buy on aliexpress, choose the shipping company among those that are offered you, pay with a credit card that has online purchase protection. You likely have custom fees of course, that you will have to pay at arrival. D...

Yep. That is why I said ‘It can feed’.
You can presume that it does pull about half the output Amps from the battery, which would compare with a 80A controller that is spec for battery current.

Re: kelly kls7212n suitable motor

It can feed 160A for 90 seconds, 60A continuous. Yet it is rated 1800w continuous, which does correspond to its maximum continuous Amps at its minimum voltage of 30v (30 X 60 : 1800). Since its maximum voltage tolerance is 90v, the theorical maximum power attainable should be 14400w, if the software...

You need to make sure the motor rpm is not limited by the controller software before calculating the rpm per volt. The real RPM must be measured unloaded and unrestricted.

You need the hub to match the axle size and width of the fork of course, that would be 20X110. Yet, don’t expect much of it. Re: Does this make sense?

Of course there is. You had found the reverse firing order, now you know the forward is only a few steps away. By swapping 2 phases you reverse the firing order, then you only need to find which halls you have to swap to have a match.
