What ? I have a 50 foot power cord going from my outlet on my third story going down to my garage for my meanwells. I have to put a new end on it as it got a little melty.
You guys are lucky.
You don’t need lipo batteries to start a fire. Your extension cord will do. 🤐

Re: Strategies to increase range while on road (you can't use a gas station)

Use a 1,000 watt charger and a battery and bms if needed that can take it. As you do not want to pop the breaker. LOL, looks like this thread has taken on a life of its own. I never thought about popping a breaker, since my charger only outputs 5 amps, but when I plugged in my 1500W power supply to...

Re: Strategies to increase range while on road (you can't use a gas station)

I had some random maintenance guy complain I was stealing electricity from an outlet outside a Walmart. He literally just unplugged my chargers. It's not my normal go to as there is a Subway nearby I can sit and keep an eye on my bike. Locked outlet boxes are out there, its rare. I always carry an ...

Every street lamp that I know of, have an electrical access door, where you can easily pick 120v with alligator clips. Some even have a standard 120v outlet, so the city can plug Christmas lights. https://www.atpiluminacion.com/files/actualidad/el_primer_fabricante_de_alumbrado_marca_aenor/at...

Re: "T" winding question

I think QS motor has a listing of all different windings available for this motor with their respective impedance, on their web site. Then, you would only need to measure ohms cross phases to know the motor Kv.

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

I am riding one right now. I am experiencing delays in building my new project, so I purchased a scooter to ride in the meantime. A Ruckus style Chinese ‘’ebike’’. It is definitely illegal, doing about 40 mph top speed. Police don’t bother, as long as I am stopping on red lights and wear a helmet. I...

Re: how fast does 1600 watts get you on a mountainbike?

The simple answer is: watts don’t make any speed, they only can help fighting the resistances. Watt is a unit of power. You can build a bike that will do 5 mph no matter how high the amount of watts that you feed it. The watts available to transform into motion will decide if it can do it with a chi...

Re: Cassette reverse cog stack - large to small

Why making it simple when a stupid dream gave you the ultimate complication. Reminds me of a friend who woke up with this idea of reversing the steering on his bike. Now steering left does make the wheel turn right. Took him a week to make it, and a month to learn to ride it. At least he g...

Re: What controller for more amps?

You probably could just mod your actual controller to feed much more power, by adding an extra shunt and beefing the traces. The question is: can your battery supply this extra current? DD motors can take a lot of power when they are on the heavy side, fast winding and smaller wheels especially. Fro...

Good. You got 45 minutes of reliability, yet. If you can get 45 days, then you can begin to hope. :D

Check Vicor for quality DC/DC converters.

Re: Does this look safe?

If SAFE means it won’t set fire to your bike, this is about where you plan to place it. It can be installed perfectly safe.

If SAFE means reliable, forget that kind. You need to put more money for a good, reliable DC/DC converter.

Re: Motor moving by itself??

Check for throttle ground wire almost cut, or ground circuit almost interrupted at connector contact. A poor neutral continuity does make voltage surges on a circuit.

I think you’d better ask her first if she wants to pedal. I mean, maybe she likes riding more than cycling. It would give a different approach to the project.

Re: Are fans needed to cool down battery packs?

You could place a probe in your battery case and attach the temp monitor to the handlebar. Then you will know if cooling is necessary. If it is, simple means of improving air flow are doing fine most of the time. Active cooling, when necessary, should be liquid ideally, and combined with heating cap...

Re: float charging lifepo4

That is a fail redundancy. Your ‘infinite range’ is an utopia and does rely on two systems with each their own vulnerabilities. Twice as many chances to fail, with a considerable efficiency loss and performance limitation. If you are going to burn gas to travel, why would you want to handicap the ef...

Re: First Ebike: Too much Battery ?

Well, one could limit the bike to the point of no concern, or keep for his own judgement the choice of extra power, how much and how long is suitable to be. I feed almost 10 times the continuous rated power of my DD motor in a hard acceleration, but It doesn't fry, because I know how long is too muc...

Re: First Ebike: Too much Battery ?

Yep. Not a drama anyway, to fry a small hub motor. Motors are cheap. If you need to babysit your motor, it is because it is obviously too small. Then you buy a bigger one now, to have it on a shelf when the small one fries.

Thanks. I'm glad I gave someone a chuckle. I'd like to think I've been a fairly nice person to those around me, but "feeling guilty" is based on caring about what other people think about me. I think I used to care about what other people thought about me, but one day, I tried to pay my b...

It is definitely a custom job, or a kid’s racing specialty bike. I mean, most of kid's bikes are weak, poorly built for a small adult. The example of a BMX is good, because racing grade BMX bikes are tough and very well built. Any racing quality bikes of other specialties for kids would be good too....

Re: First Ebike: Too much Battery ?

You never have too much battery, unless you are racing. When weight is a major factor and extra battery capacity is a nuisance. The current fed to the motor is set in the controller program. Your battery could be too small to supply the controller setting, but it will never be too big as to cause da...
