Re: Homemade Battery Packs

Oh boy! ... Found 3 more boxes of Dell Laptop LiPo. 10.8V 4.32Ah from 3s2p packs. Hundreds of packs should provide good 1000+ cells. (All packs that would not maintain good charge were discarded years ago.) Need to finish off the rest of this last batch, Lawnmower batt repair, fluorescent lanterns, ...

Re: EZip Trailz LS - 2013

Trailz LS picked up a slow leak in rear tire this week ... took a long ride on side of 4 lane. Must have picked up something real thin, or still stuck tightly through tube, 1st puncture on this model Schwinn Kevlar belted cruiser tire. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51gFM9DtWjL._AC_AA160_.jpg...

Re: Raised Bed Gardening - Cement Blocks!

Seed starting party was a great success ... chatted and laughed with old friends and met a few new ones! Planted some seeds too. Started about 10 varieties of Peppers, nearly as many types of Tomatoes. Dozens each of the standards with a fair sampling of some specialties. Trying some Eggplant also, ...

Miles per Kilowatt hour at various speeds

Hit 60ºF+ today and was testing batteries\bikes, Tried 33.3V on my 25.9V Comfort Cruiser ... "cruised" up to an exhilarating 25mph. At 1kWh will provide 60 miles @ 15mph, 40 miles @ 20 mph and 30 miles @ 25mph. EBike Simulator rates 1kWh battery at: 15 mph = 76 miles 20 mph = 51 miles 25 mph = 35 mi...

Re: New York State Senate Bill S1357 (Definition of ebike)

If you want to get technical ... 20mph speed limit could be interpreted as 20.000 mph (Federal notation is "not to exceed 20 mph") while less than 20mph could be interpreted as 19.999 mph Why quibble over 1/1000 mph? Any fraction over, such as 20.001 mph vs 21.0 mph is a matter of interpretation, le...

Re: Raised Bed Gardening - Cement Blocks!

Our "Community Garden" is actually divided into 2 sections. About half is dedicated for growing and distributing vegetables to needy locals. The other half is sectioned with specific beds allocated for families to grow their own preferred vegetables. We usually have spare seeds and seedlings availab...

Picked up nice stuff at an "outdated" surplus store. 500mg Vitamin C and Calcium tablets - they dissolve easily in water, except for coating. Best to crush and remove paper like fragments. Re: Voltage matching questions

I parallel bare cells using copper tape and neodymium magnets. Fold copper tape over magnets spaced for 18650s or cut or fold thin enough, then fasten with magnet power. 6 or 8mm x 2mm recommended, (1mm thick for 18650 nipples, wrap in copper tape for best use.) cheap by the hundred. Copper tape-mag...

Re: Voltage matching questions

Present voltage, since they were run in parallels, is no good indicator of anything. Recommend you run the cells through a basic cell testing methodology. 1. Charge all cells to identical same voltage. 2. Let cells set, for several days, measure residual voltage, precisely. Note voltage loss as "sel...

Re: Snow Beast Refurb

That KMC "Rust Buster" chain looks interesting; that looks perfect for your application. Zinc coating I presume? Had a leftover link of the "New other", pulled it apart and noted a very precise black lubricant inside the collar (bearing). Yes, it appears to be a very complete and even zinc coating....

Rust Buster chain

Got some extra 410 chain (1/2" x 1/8"), KMC "Rust Buster". Got some cheap from China, "New other" that seems to be deeply impregnated with a thick lubricant - perfect for motor chain! 45 links, 90T is perfect for 3 x 15 links for my 9T-22T Snow Beast rig. Made up 2x13 links & 1x14 links from left ov...

Mid-Winter tune-up. Had to tighten-true spokes on motor wheel, got a bit loose, but was expected as from re-spoked wheel. Replaced motor chain with KMC "RustBuster" 410. Can build 3 x 15 Link (30T for 9-22T) chains or 1 x 15 + 3 x 13 (26T for 9-16T) chains from standard box. Replaced brake pads with...

Re: Will the cold winter Shorten the life?

Charging a battery when cold will damage battery! (70ºF deemed optimal for charging) Running a cold battery definitely degrades performance but there seems to be no evidence that it is damaging. I still run a 2014 homebuilt battery with thousands and thousands of miles on it, but only during the hot...

Re: Is better to charge the battery only to 80%?

Yikes ... Getting "gladder" about building my own batteries! Using care to build using cells free of self discharge and sorting banks to be of of equal IR and capacity has resulted in builds that last for hundreds of cycles with no noticeable bank voltage divergence ... without using any type of BMS...
