Re: The Beast Mid Drive Beta Giveaway. 9 Days Left to Enter

Emaayan, Once again the problems you are imagining are non existant. My cable i use the backpack waist strap to hold so that it falls straight out from my guts in the middle, its stiff enough that it doesnt noticably touch your legs, its short enough so that it has never caused restriction or tangle...

Re: The Beast Mid Drive Beta Giveaway. 9 Days Left to Enter

Emaayan, Ive been using a 5kg battery in a backpack for over a year. Ive never had a single case of forgetting to unplug it, or any other issues for that matter. 30 seconds into the ride you've forgotten its even there, and the bike still feels light like a bike instead of a tank. When you dismount,...

Re: demo 8 astro 3220

Mate this looks awesome. Can i suggest that you loosen the forks and drop them through the tripleclamps (to simulate compressed suspension) and just check the wheel doesnt hit the motor? I could be completely wrong, but it looks like it would hit and possibly cause a massive stack if it did it off a...

Sounds like something seriously wrong in the motor or gearbox. Pull it apart or if its new, get onto the supplier and see if you can send it back.

Re: cyclone kit 1680w 48v cut problem

Sounds like the settings are very safe. Maybe just use a lower gear and go slower up the hills? Mines never cut out, but if your riding it like the gng, which is a higher torque motor, it could be overheating the controller if you are pushing it too fast up hill. Or its just a faulty unit. Hopefully...

Might be the battery voltage going too low? Try limiting the motor power if you can program that on the controller you have

Glad ya got it dorted Darren, looks like an easy and secure fix. I hadnt encountered any problems, but ive only done 1500km on mine, she's still running like new.
Thanks for sharing the repair, i may need it in a few years :)
Cheers,

Re: AFT mid drive giant glory 2013

I went for 10awg silicon wire, about a metre long. Plugs into the pre-charge plug which hangs 20cm out of the backpack at one end, then an XT90 plug at the other end that plugs just in front of the seat. In a stack or a tangle the xt90 plug pulls straight out. Wrapped the wires in that plastic mesh ...

Nice build!
Looks like the front tire might hit that lower battery when the front suspension fully compresses though, from the pics, be careful!

Re: AFT Giant Glor-E (Glory Glory Hallelujah!)

Stuntmanmike, i think once you get the frame mount rigid you shouldnt have any chain issues. I know my glory has the box section frame, which means zero chance of the clamp slipping, but i havent had a single chain drop ever. If the clamp cant slip and all your chain guides are in the right spots yo...

Welcome to the AFT eglory club :) Ive put a bit over 1000km of mainly offroad bush bashing and singletrack on mine and it hasnt missed a beat. Awesome bikes, awesome motors :) I will warn you to locktite the chainwheel bolts and the little grub screw on the freewheel, as they can work loose over tim...

Re: CYCLONE MOTOR OVERHEATING

If you're out of ideas you could try pulling it apart and replacing the grease in the gearbox with a little light gear oil, but it sounds like something else is wrong. Maybe get the kelly to program and drop the power, but if it cooks even taking it slow that might do no good. Send it back and get a...

Re: CYCLONE MOTOR OVERHEATING

Long wires shouldnt have any adverse effect other than very very slight power loss over shorter leads. Does the motor seem to run smoothly? Ive experienced a hub motor with a dud hall sensor and it was "rough" under acceleration. If yours pulls smoothly and everything works as it should the wiring i...

Re: CYCLONE MOTOR OVERHEATING

I connected my kelly just with an old monitor cable i had lying around after the ebay adapter didnt work and the older style cable worked perfectly. If youve got any old pc cables maybe give it a try? Or ask at a computer shop for an old one. It sounds like it might need to be programmed back a bit ...

Re: CYCLONE MOTOR OVERHEATING

You could also try just running it unloaded for a couple of minutes, just spinning it with the wheel off the ground, everything should stay cold. If you get heat from motor or controller it could definitely be a wiring thing. I just guessed you were pushing it too hard as thats the only time mines e...

Re: CYCLONE MOTOR OVERHEATING

You could buy a heatsink from AFT, presumably they use them for the same reasons. But at the end of the day you most likely just need to adjust your riding style. If you are lugging the motor- ie: taking off in top gear instead of granny. I know from rc cars that using too tall gearing overheats the...

Re: Aft Driven Nicolai UFO ST

Hey Mike, thats a bitch that it slipped again. Maybe try the normal bike tube on the clamp? I havent used sugru, but maybe the sugru silicon rubber is slipperier than natural rubber? Or just go metal on metal and it should grip solidly if its tight enough, just might mark your frame. I lucked out wi...

Re: Please help a newbie plan and execute a build

With the 83mm BB on the glory i dont think anything but an AFT, GNG, LR, DaVinci or EGO kit will fit. Pretty sure mine runs the short derailler, and works perfectly. The frame bend etc looks the same, shouldnt be any mounting issues, and the extra wheel diameter should make no difference, except to ...

Re: Please help a newbie plan and execute a build

I did my research for years and decided that the AFT was the best choice for me. I'm not going to come out and say 'its the best', as ive had some good arguements already on the matter. Considering all the options- fitting, proven reliability (cyclone), ease of use, tunability, strength of parts, de...

Hey Drew, i'd go for the the hawg nv, you can easily snug it down so its as compact as possible. The mule is sweet, but its packed to capacity with battery, a litre of water, tools, wallet, phone etc. a bit more room without distorting the bag, so it still sits nice on ya back, could only be a good ...

Re: AFT mid drive giant glory 2013

Like Gab said above. You'll be able to go faster downhill and steeper but slower uphill. If it shuts down due to temp, you were trying to go too fast uphill; a couple of gears closer to granny and it wont strain/lug and overheat. Use granny from the start and it wont strain at all, and use hardly an...

Re: AFT mid drive giant glory 2013

No worries Drew, The 29e cells can take .3c discharge for burst loads, which with my pack (19.25ah -typo) is 59.75 amps, a 22ah would be better, as mine is probably pushing the limits (although i dialled back the battery power and motor power 5 or 10% with the kelly program just to keep it from stre...
