Re: LiFePO4 48V 10Ah Battery pack with 20A BMS - no charging plug

Yes, I have installed single port BMS on some of my battery packs, so I could charge/discharge from the same port, and also because it's a little safer when running in parallel. Allows me to charge in parallel too. LOL. Then I got tired of looking for my XT60 adapters to put on my charger's 5.5.mm p...

Re: Parallel vs Single performance.

If you run two similar packs in parallel, you will halve the current needed from each pack. Since the capacity is dependent on the level of current draw, on an ebike I would expect a little more range running in parallel as opposed to running one pack til it's flat and switching. Anyway, I've got a ...

Cut the nickel strips so the bad row is isolated. Then no worries about shorting the casings, Still have to be careful. Then I wonder if this would work to cut thru the hot melt glue? https://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Mini-Electric-Foam-Cutter/dp/B071RRL63S/ref=asc_df_B071RRL63S/?tag=hyprod-20&link...

Are there 13S balance chargers? Here's a video on setting up a 6S unit. It's 9 years old, so maybe there is better gear, but I'd rather have a BMS do this.

Re: Ebike kit I can carry in airport and charge my Macbook

I know about the Grin Ligo's, which are 36V 10S-1P and with 2.7 aH cells are under 100WH. Three in parallel ought to run the QI-roll,

I should probably buy about twelve of them and toss out all my 36V packs.

How many see diy ebikes in their area? I saw my first one in a long time today, a nice steel cased battery inside the triangle on a red bike in the bike lane. I used to see the same one come by, a Schwinn frame, but not in a while. I'm seeing more store bought ebikes, almost every evening on my dai...

Re: Am I overcharging and damaging my batteries?

One of my Olympus cameras uses a 2S battery that charges and labelled as 8.6 volts. The battery /charger are designed so it will only charge this battery. Third party packs will not charge if inserted. It only charges to 4.1v/cell in a third part charger, For years, I thought they used a special 4.3...

Re: I need a recommendation for a controller w/ Julet 916 connector for motor

That's a high current motor connector because you have a high current motor. It's already got the washers and nuts on the cable? If it will fit into the space for the old RAD controller, I think there is nothing wrong with that 50A KT controller that you linked. You will need a KT display for it, an...

Indicator lights on your bike, no matter how crude, suggest that the battery is getting old and showing voltage sag under load.

Did your guy put in a balance BMS. They're needed on older batteries.

Re: Am I overcharging and damaging my batteries?

I bought some cinder blocks, $1.39 each. I keep my shrink wrapped packs inside the internal cavity. They will also hold my downtube packs if I stack the blocks. I think they will contain a fire from a smaller pack. I have steel ammo boxes too, but have seen the youtube videos. They're not that good,

Re: Am I overcharging and damaging my batteries?

When Lunacycle first started out in 2015, I bought a 13S 48V Dolphin with charger. Eighteen months later, I discovered it was a 14S 52V pack with a 52V charger, Luna's error. Meanwhile, I had been mixing the 48V and 52V chargers on my 48V batteries. The Luna battery had no markings. The charger said...

The SW900 will power up, but won't work with a Brainpower controller. This is a common mistake. You can also put an SW900 on a KY controller, Same problem. Many LCD's have the following wiring, and often use the same pinout. -Battery Power -Ground -Start: This goes from zero to battery power when th...

I cut the ribs off my existing connector and flipped it. Easy install. There goes what little fault tolerance it had. Good luck with that. Re: Help Paralleling Lipos

I'd worry about lateral currents. Why not use a heavier wire to cross at the balance points, not a balance wire. 16G wouldn't be too hard would it? There wouldn't be lateral currents in the ideal world, but if one set of 7S is mismatched, one end of a parallel group might sag.

I suppose you can find a quick release lever off a seat post clamp and if the stem is a single screw clamp, put the QR in its place with some drilling. They seem to be available only fr quill stems.

Re: Nakto Ebikes and how to improve them

You might consider a DNP freewheel with a smaller 11T gear, if you're running out of gear when using the Shimano freewheel with its smallest 14T. Only trouble is the DNP's are 7 speed, and it might be a tight fit. When the bicycle parts shortage eases, you can convert the cable actuated disk brakes ...

Re: Am I overcharging and damaging my batteries?

If your voltmeter is accurate, yes, 55.1V is too high, but it's more likely the voltmeter is off. A 13S battery has 13 cell groups in series. Max charge on a cell is 4.2V. So 13 x 4.2 = 54.6V, The battery BMS should isolate the battery when any cell gets to 4.2V, so in theory, it cannot charge over ...

Hybrid cars work with the IC engine charging the battery. This is the same concept, except a human is charging the battery, but the average delivery van rider does not put out 1/10 the power of a 1000W Honda generator.

Re: Is my BMS defective?

The battery output is less than the total internal cell voltage, so I would say the BMS has turned the battery off. Sometimes you get leakage on the output when a battery is turned off, and that could explain the 45V. In my opinion, a quality BMS doesn't leak. One might see residual voltage on the o...

As I understand it, OP has a 13S-2P cell showing 39V max on his charger. When he checked the voltage, 11 groups are around 3.5V, and two are 0V. That would match what his pictures show. Those two cell groups are killed. Yes, you could unsolder them and splice in 4 replacements. What people are warni...

Overvoltage and/or high heat will also pop the electrolytics.

So will putting them in backwards.
