Re: Building a large capacity battery for bicycle trailer

I will absolutely compare a reseller with a solid reputation to other vendors that charge the full MSRP. And I will continue to patronize battery hookup and any other reseller I choose. Not going to argue with you. I disagree with the way you've chosen to characterize a reputable vendor. So far they...

Re: Building a large capacity battery for bicycle trailer

Say what you want and trash talk them if you choose. But from what I've heard they do test their batteries and the description of what they're selling is accurate. The cells I bought were described as new and both looked new and others have tested them and found them to be at or above their rated ca...

Re: Building a large capacity battery for bicycle trailer

Battery hookup is shady? From what I've heard they have a decent reputation. And I've placed 3 orders with them with no issues. The cells I got seem to be A grade and unused.

I would love to see an ebike and trailer parked at a Tesla charging station. That would be cool.

Found a nice video on the topic. Not sure if this is accurate but it seems to make sense. Skip to the 15:25 mark for the spoiler.

Re: Compression of pouch cells, info/data

My comment was aimed more towards lipo cells which under normal use should not puff at all. I dont have enough experience with lifepo4 cells to say the same. But I suspect that keeping them fully charged all the time is in fact abusing them. Just wanted to clear that up since I've been called out fo...

Re: E-bike mid-drive motors hardly outperforms hub motors

A few hundred grams per wheel is going to be a whole lot more agile than a 14 lb hub motor. Watch a dirt bike race? Those guys arent pedaling and the mass of the bikes and wheels absolutely does affect handling. I just dont accept that a hub motor would be agile unless its rather small. A fit cyclis...

Re: E-bike mid-drive motors hardly outperforms hub motors

Performance numbers, charts and graphs are all well and good. But I think that leaves out the bigger picture. A hub motor is a large thing occupying the middle of a bicycle wheel. Unless its geared internally its spinning at a 1:1 ratio which is not ideal for a brushless motor. And just like the phy...

Re: Building a large capacity battery for bicycle trailer

660 grams each x 14 = 9240 grams or 20.37 lbs. So yeah, a bit on the heavy side.

Re: Building a large capacity battery for bicycle trailer

Just saw that BatteryHookup has those 25ah lifepo4 cells back in stock. But they're only selling them in packs of 24. Maybe you could get those and sell off the extras at a slight markup.

Re: 18650/21700 Case Material?

A case made of carbon. Is that not good and strong material for battery case? On the plus side its very lightweight and strong. On the minus side its conductive. Just scratch the epoxy surface of carbon fiber and once you hit the actual carbon strands they are almost as conductive as copper. Machin...

Re: New battery cells for robot vacuum cleaner Rowenta

Theres always BatteryHookup.com if you're here in the US. They usually have a nice selection of deeply discounted batteries and stuff. Otherwise, 8 pieces of 2200mah or better 18650 should not be hard to find. You could always look for new or used battery packs for portable power tools and carefully...

Just concerned that your battery might evetually short out against a metal case. But if you think your build skills are up to par, go for it.

Re: Spot Welding Copper Strips to 18650 Battery Cells

Well manufactured prismatic (pouch) cells should not puff unless they are abused IMHO. I think Lifepo4 cells puff because people stupidly leave them fully charged all the time or abuse them in other ways. Been in the Rc aircraft hobby for over 10 years and lipo packs dont puff unless they are pushed...

Re: Spot Welding Copper Strips to 18650 Battery Cells

So what happens to .25mm copper busbars after a few months when the copper starts to corrode? Does it lose any conductivity?
