Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Dave's mid drive is great, but it has its limitations imo. I believe the tolerances like previously mentioned are one problem. The gear in mine is destroyed, there is a crack and the surfaces are totally misshapen. I will be trying to mate a cyc x1Pro gearbox/crankset to my astro 3220. I expect the ...

Re: Whats the verdict: strongest crank freehweel?

I’ve had good luck with the $85 version... http://sickbikeparts.com/front-freewheel-heavy-duty/ I have that one too. THere seems to be somethign wrong with it. There is a ton of play, with finger pressure it's almost like I can displace the bearings and make it "click" one side to the oth...

Re: CYC X1 Gen 2 5000W

Can anyone comment on the Motor shaft diameter? The one that drives the sungear inside the planetary gearbox.

Also what is the size of the key that fits into the motor shaft/sun gear?

How much motor shaft sticks out from the motor?

CYC X1 Pro Mounting BCD?

I've been trying very politely to request from the manufacturer the BCD for the mount-motor-reduction (it's a 4 bolt pattern) so that I can fab my own custom mounting plate but they've been reluctant to provide it.... telling me that I don't need a custom plate....

Anyone know the BCD?

I'm going to replace the freewheel since it's starting to act up a bit.

I'm considering the SBP UHD freewheel

Powerful mid drive rear wheel build

Looking to rebuild the rear. My concern is the torque that can be put through the rear in low gear. I'm considering using a onyx rear hub. How many spokes would be best? More thinner spokes or fewer thicker spokes. From what I've gathered, thicker spokes although stronger can not necessiarly reach t...

Re: Building a robust rear wheel for a mid-drive

Good topic, I with it had gotten more attention. I'd say that a disc in the rear can't transmit as much torque as a hard launch on a powerful middrive..... weight transference to the rear on launch and the opposite for applying a rear brake.... you will break traction with a skid on hard braking. An...

CYC X1 PRO / Tangent graft? CYC reduction mounted to Astro 3220?

My love and joy 6KW tangent internals have had some catestrophic damage. Since parts are rarer than hen's teeth I've been looking at options. I was considering swapping the whole kit to a CYC X1 PRO, but I really like my CA/throttle etc.... Worked really well on the Tangent. To save cost and keep th...

Re: Tangent Giant DH Revival Build

For the rear I went with a sram 990 cassette. The original cassette was a plain vanilla cassette where each cog engaged the freehub independently. This led to me sheering the teeth from the cog on several of the larger ones and damaging the freehub a bit. The 990 has a solid billet carrier that has...

Re: Tangent Giant DH Revival Build

With regard to the chain skipping, I experienced this too, and it turned out to be from the inner chain ring at the crank. The teeth were literally misshapen from the torque. Seemed to get worse and worse with more frequent skipping until finally I jammed my chain... give it a peek.

Tangent Mid-drive support or replacement components?

Has anyone been able to make contact with Dave? I'm needing some new internals sadly.... When I purchased from him he said that he would offer support whenever needed. Re: Tangent Giant DH Revival Build

Hey, 3220 motor here..... but it's sitting idle..... GET YOUR CHAIN RIGHT!!!! I dropped a chain a few times and had it bind DEAD STOP, it caused the internal aluminum cycloid gears to deteriorate quick. so now my beautiful tangent drive is sitting as a useless lump... Have you heard from Dave at all...

I have one of the earlier gen Tangent mids. I believe the spindle/BB came from sick bike parts https://cdn10.bigcommerce.com/s-umwiudfobz/products/1321/images/1496/ISISBB83__85369.1477519914.1280.1280.JPG?c=2 I'm looking to adjust my chain line a little more to one side like Dave had shown here (onl...

Re: Custom spider- need advice on type/grade of steel

Whats up with that hole on the bottom left breaking through the wall of the raised ring? Good eye! The way that the "5" hole carrier aligns with a "4" hole carrier means that there will be some overlap one way or another between the mounting portion of the larger chainring and t...

Custom spider- need advice on type/grade of steel

I'm going to have this machined but need advice on grade of steel to go with.

It's for mounting a tangent 6kw unit mid drive.

I'd like it to be very strong and not rust.

Advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I've got one of your earliest kits, v2 I think. Does the new maintenance protocol and internal apply? Mine has a screw cap to inject the lube. Is that no longer the way to do it?

Thanks
