Re: Hub motor direct from Chinese supplier

Hi All, Has anyone purchased a hub motor direct from a Chinese supplier? as they seem to be considerably cheaper than UK sources (I suspect these are the same Chinese items but with a mark up for the importer). What are the potential pitfalls other than getting something totally different from the ...

Re: Nexus 5 IGH experience ?

Any maximum torque ratings available for these? Rohloff is supposed to be 130 N.m which is just about enough for me Shimano is very cautious with hw limits and never comnunicates this kind of stuff openly. Oem deals get you some level of insight though, and as a result some numbers leaked. 60n.m2 s...

What "resonances" issue are your referring to ? Just search keywords like 'vibrations' or 'resonances' in this thread or in the german Pedelecforum. You will get many hits. regards stancecoke Thanks, did that and found a few reports indeed though it seems to be quite random. Some DD work ...

Re: Nexus 5 IGH experience ?

All of this is known stuff - although part incorrect. For an instance the alfine 8 doesn't shift at all under load. In fact shifting under load is a good way to break your igh. You have to stop pedaling for a short moment to fully engage the dogs from the axle in the matching gear. Also, not all nex...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

It is well known, that the Kunteng Controllers have bad resonances with the cheap china directdrives. That's a hardware issue, you can't fix it with software settings. Hello,

Has anyone tried the new shimano 5 speed internal geared hub with a bbs02 or hd ? Is is as smooth and quiet as an alfine 8 ?

thanks for your time,

Re: Geared Hub Motor Quality

Heavy tandem / cargo, long steep hills. DD alone and ungeared may burn as speed gets too slow. Thinking a second motor, geared in tandem would increase capacity, add "limp home" redundancy. Tandem + hills + large wheels (26+) = tricky for hub motors. On the other hand, tandems have large ...

FH212 DD hub repair

I have a strange problem with a nine continent FH212 motor. One of the halls died due to a short and I replaced all three with brand new ss41. Closed everything, tested each hall with a 5V psu and all seemed good. Phases not shorted either (no resistance turning the wheel when the controller is off)...

Easy answer: get the largest 3.45mah cells battery your money can buy and that fits in your bike frame. For newbies there is no such thing as a too large battery.

Re: Copper strips instead of nickel?

How would less bus bar resistance decrease voltage sag during acceleration ? AFAIK the sag is due to cell chemistry. Wouldn't any additional resistance in the delivery circuitry act like a buffer and actually (slightly) decrease sag ? Any resistance in the circuit increases sag. Sag is a voltage dr...

Re: Fuses behind a BMS: what's the point ?

I keep seeing packs with an automotive fuse sitting behind a bms, and I wonder what's the point. Even in a pure redundancy scenario, a proper bms will trigger an OCP way before the fuse would melt, and die if the OCP fails. Even in that extreme case, the main discharge would be instantly cut off, s...

Wouldn't do it. Ferrofluid is nothing new under the sun, and has been used for decades now in the high tec audio scene to cool speaker magnets. The wheel turns freely in both directions - no clicking or resistance (as long as I don't short the phase wires together). Re: raising voltage to maximize regen. braking?

I think you have an error in your voltage calculations. 42V for a 10S battery is 4.2V/cell. 54.6V for a 14S battery is 3.9V/cell. If you redo your math with the correct voltages, you'll find that the charge power is exactly the same no matter which way you configure the cells. Correct - thanks for ...
