Re: Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

One caveat: I could not figure out how to get the nut off that holds the cassette onto the drive side axle. (I watched the Grin video, and they said it was easy to remove the jam nut, but didn't show removing the main nut underneath...it was just gone when they pulled the motor apart.) The jam nut ...

Use silicone oil. It's thin, chemically inert and transports heat well. I'm not sure how well the seals will hold it in tho.

can you elaborate a bit on how the torque sensing is done?
Look at the video at the 1:00 mark. The tension wheel arm deflects slightly when cranking, which can be measured.

Do you need a crank with freewheel for this? Can you use any kind of battery? What's the maximum voltage?

Re: APL's DIY axial-flux motor

Your program really only exports STL? That's very unusual. either I need to convert STL to STEP Forget it. Even if you find something that does this for you, the results will be awkward. Exporting to STL means a loss of information. STP/IGES contain mathematical information, such as circles being de...

This is awesome, Justin! Great for making adjustments on the go, when you don't happen to have your laptop with you :) I do wonder, if you already have OTG and you're planning Bluetooth, wouldn't it be possible to use a smartphone app not only for configuration, but also as a dashboard? This way you...

Re: APL's DIY axial-flux motor

Is the motor going to be open to the outside air? You usually only see that with absolute-maximum-power hotrod builds. Here a fan will be beneficial. But if the motor is going to have a sealed shell, there isn't going to be much room for air to move around. A partial oil fill is going to have a much...

Re: Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

You need to get the wire out where the phase/hall wires come out. If you can't do that, it won't work. Yes, I'm aware. We are talking about the G310, correct? I can't tell how you managed to route them out. https://i.imgur.com/mdgisRG.jpg Here's the stator. On the bottom is where the phase wires co...

zukster, please take pictures of how you installed the temp probe and how you routed the wires out of the motor. I tried and couldn't find a route to get it out.

May I hijack this thread? I'm also looking for a reasonable charger, but for 88.2V (21s). I could get a Satiator, but those are a bit too expensive for my tastes. Any recommendations? Thanks! HLGs can also be stacked, in series or parallel Are you absolutely sure this is possible? e.g. put 2x 42V H...

Re: 2019 Motor Simulator, Mid-drives and other updates

Deionized/distilled/purified water will leech salts and metals out of its surroundings and become conductive and corrosive. There's no way around that, even antifreeze or other corrosion inhibitors will only work for a limited time. Water also will wash out the gear grease while itself not providing...

Re: Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

Look into putting oil into the G310 to boost its dissipation. Should be good for 1000W+. That’s also an option, I’ve just read the thread about cooling, it seems very efficient. Does the G310 need extra-sealing before putting oil inside it ? What’s the best oil to use ? Classic motor oil, silicone ...

Re: Serious FOCer (84V VESC 6 based controller)

Max is 84V(20s). That will be verified in testing. I'm assuming batteries will sag down a bit during high current loads. Calculating power at 75V loosely accounts for this. I would seriously suggest increasing that to at least 95V, if not 100V. Even with your input caps, inductance in the battery w...

Re: New weldless battery system crowdfunfing project

Interesting. Are you using thread inserts as contacts? Those are made of brass, aren't they? You might want to consider making your own contacts out of copper, maybe even with one end closed for more contact surface. Brass has only 1/3 the conductivity of copper. For low-current situations that'll ...

Re: BionX Torque Sensor Help Needed

The sensor is glued onto the axle, and both sensor and axle need to be perfectly flat before doing so. You'll need to buy a new sensor (peanuts), cut out the old sensor, clean and smooth the axle flat, solder the new sensor to the cable (taking care not to damage the sensitive leads), then carefully...

Re: BionX Torque Sensor Help Needed

In BionX motors a common problem is the strain gauge sensor detaching from the axle. When this happens you'll either get no output signal, a very weak one, or a sporadic one. It very much looks like this is what happened here. Unfortunately there's no easy fix. If you want to get it working again, t...

Are you sure that the PR is to blame and not the configuration? Are you using hall sensors to start? Increasing phase current will also help.

Re: Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

It's not, due to the freewheel/clutch. If you want to do regen in a geared motor, you can either buy a clutchless one (such as this) or weld the clutch fixed in your G310.
