Re: Fast/Slow winding - How to calc?

in the "non-hub" section, the thread stickie list has a link to a chart that spells out two formulas for calculating wheel-diameter to road-speed, and then simply lists a couple pages worth of RPM/ road-speeds for 20, 22, 24, 26, 29-inch wheels. Once you know the tire-OD and the top-speed ...

Re: EXTREMO - Scratch built 7kW billet frame scooter

Easy burnouts can be fun a couple of times, but...the novelty wears off and it quickly becomes tiring and expensive to replace the tires frequently. Power is not acceleration. Once you raise the power to the point where full throttle breaks the tires loose at all speeds, then any more power is a was...

Re: Tesla model S plaid motor- perfect high power ebike motor?

Some motor chat at 8:52

A Carbon-fiber wrapped rotor allows a tighter air-gap and ultra-high RPM's up to 200-MPH on a one-speed drivetrain. 20,000-RPM's from the motor mentioned.

EGO 56V lawnmower motor

Sadly, it's brushed. He tested the RPM's twice using a cheap tach. It's a nice size for any kiddie vehicle project you can think of, but I doubt used ones will be easy to find. I suspect the mowers will last a very long time. I have one and I'm happy with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGEyJ1uG...

Re: Low Speed, High Torque Hub Motor?

This is a spec that is far away from being common, so nobody stocks it.

Its easily done by a chain-drive and a non-hub motor.

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

If I am honest with myself, what I need is about 20 mph with the max load on the flat and enough torque for about 1/4 mile steepish hill without the motor over heating. Want the quietness of a DD, but a geared is probably what I really need, geared noise or not I daily-drive a car that is capable o...

Re: Help decide between All-Axle and GMAC

All of the options discussed will work fine for the commute you described. I'd recommend 48V over 36V for several reasons. If you use a modest amount of power, the higher volts will mean that you use fewer amps, and the heat from amps are the issue of concern over the years. In a power outage, the 4...

But also less torque at the same current
The question is, does it make enough torque to make the OP happy on his particular commute. You can just as well say that the higher turn-count makes less top-speed at the same current...

Re: Help decide between All-Axle and GMAC

The lower turn-count uses thicker wire, and shorter windings, so it has less resistance. It may have a higher top speed per pack voltage when using max throttle, but you aren't required to travel at the top speed. There are several ways to cap the top speed to a speed you choose, so you don't have t...

Re: Help decide between All-Axle and GMAC

You haven't described the commute... For flat land, get the all axle direct drive with statorade. For mild hills, the GMAC has more torque, but a weaker heat-shedding path, but if the simulator doesn't show it overheating, it should be fine. For steep hills, go with a mid-drive to give the motor som...

Re: Shimano "Freewheel"

years ago, there was a lot of experiments with crank freewheels. A rolling ramp or sprag-clutch is quieter and more expensive than common pawls, but on industrial conveyor belts, they seem to be very strong.

I'll look to see what I can find about the Shimano freewheeling crank being sold on its own.

Re: Tab cooling prismatics.

I will look for the reference, but "tab cooling" performed better than cooling the sides of the flat pouch cells. Especially in high-amp cells that had multiple tabs per square-inch of anode/cathode. I had always assumed that when packing flat pouch cells against each other, it would be go...

Re: Sur Ron powertrain kit for DIY moto conversion?

Rather than develop a drivetrain with a larger motor, Sur-Ron is happy with their stock motor and is developing a dual-motor system as an option. I don't have any additional information, or any idea of it will be for sale to the public anytime soon.
