Re: do two 1500w controllers make a 3000w one?
It would work exceptionally well with two motors in a 2WD ebike. That being said, when you accelerate, most if the vehicle weight shifts to the rear tire, so...
A more balanced system might put a 1000W controller and motor in the front, and a 1500W system on the rear tire...

Re: 8020 Aluminum Recumbent Frame?
The two common Al alloys are 6061 and 7075 6061 is easy to TIG weld, 7075 is stronger, similar to soft steel. No aluminum is easy to machine, but 6061 is "easier" than 7075. If you plan to drill and bolt (possibly bond with DP-420 epoxy), 7075 is stronger. Soft metals like brass and alumin...

If you don't mind me asking, I think these modules might be popular for other builds. Would you please post the precise external dimensions of a brick? And how many cells per brick?
Did they appear to be able to be broken down into smaller pieces?

Re: Using a lead acid charger on a Lithium pack
It's best to charge lithium cells to 4.0V-4.1V, but its widely accepted that 4.2V per cell is the max.
4.2V x 13S = 54.6V as the absolute max voltage that pack should be charged to.

Change the max amps setting to something higher. Theres a chance that might have an effect.

Re: Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.
One of the things I learned from the aero-Civic site was that the front grille creates significant drag. He covered the grille and found that the electric fan drew in enough air from below the engine to keep the engine temps safe. He installed movable louvers where the grill was, so he could manuall...

The most aero high-speed velo's look like a raindrop with flattened sides, and it used cameras feeding a series of internal screens (*old smart-phones?) If passenger mirror deletion interests you, I'd reccomend a backup camera and right-side camera. They have gotten very cheap, and somebody's obsole...

Re: Brushed vs brushless motor in go-kart setup
Brushed motors have been over-volted about 50% without problems in the past. However, the higher the volts, the farther a spark can jump. Doubling the voltage throws off the timing. That means the phases are energized just a hair too soon and they stay energized just a hair too late. I suppose you c...

Re: Accidental ebike newbie with controller and battery questions
If you plan to actually haul cargo in that large cargo box, you would definitely be better served by a mid drive motor, so the motor has some gears to work with. The smallest I would use would be the 48V BBS02, and if you think you wouldn't get into trouble, a slightly larger 48V BBSHD would be idea...

Re: Accidental ebike newbie with controller and battery questions
If you add a temp sensor to the stator on the inside of the motor, you can run a surprising amount of watts through it, as long as it's only a temporary peak. The amps cause the majority of heat in a motor, and the motor you have can likely be run with 48V. That would give you slightly more power wi...

Re: Belt + 3-speed IGH + Seattle Hills = TSDZ2, BBS02, BBSHD, or mistake?
I don't know if it's a good idea or a bad one. For hill climbing, put on the smallest chainring that will fit on your selected drive unit. The fact you want to convert a belt drive complicates things. The TDSZ2 will climb very steep hills, but because it has less power than the other two you mention...

I assume you are talking about using tubeless tires on a hubmotor. If yes, the edge sealant will not hurt heat in the motor.

Re: Isolation between cells needed?
The cells in the center of the pack will run hotter than the cells at the edge, which can passively shed "some" heat. This means the cells that are not on the edge will degrade sooner, and the pack will have reduced capacity when those cell degrade. As a general rule, I am not a fan of hot...

Re: Stator/magnet swept area
If you confine yourself to radial-flux in-runners, like the popular Leaf 35mm, MXUS 45mm, and QS 50mm wide stator examples, I agree that swept face area is a good indicator of power potential, if all other factors are the same. (These three examples use the same 205mm diameter lamination stacks) The...

Re: Stator/magnet swept area
The entire swept face of the rotor and stator of an axial-flux can be working magnets plus electro-magnet material, but the motor mass near the center has trouble shedding heat. If width isn't a problem, you can stack more stators and rotors on the same shaft. Zero motorcycles started out with Moten...

Re: Battery charging basics
For a few years, one manufacturer called 14S lithium-Ion battery packs 50V. After the Bafang mid drives began growing in popularity, they were often used with 14S, and many began labeling the packs 52V. EGO-brand lawn tools call 14S 56V, and I think Echo calls them 58V. So which is it, and what char...
