Sevcon gen4 firmware compatibility between size 4 and 6

Folks,

Like the topic says... is the firmware the same for the two sizes ? Basically I got a Size 6 controller, but the firmware supplied with the DCF for the motor is labeled Size 4, and I am not sure if that will cause issues. Thanks!

Re: Chargery C10325 not doing CV phase?

I don't trust Chargery products at all. I've caught my C10325 going over the programmed voltage more than once. And talking to Jason about these problems is like bashing one's head on a brick wall. Just avoid them if at all possible.

I would say don't balance at all unless you can do it actively. Maybe just provide a port for an external balancer to plug into.

Re: Chargery BMS balancing

I did not mean to imply the Chargery is right for the job, I meant use the right tool for the job. 80Ah is not large. Are you saying your charge rate is over 100A? No, it's significantly less than 100A. I think 30A is the max I can do. But that BMS can't even keep up with a few amps it seems. So lo...

Re: Chargery BMS balancing

Thanks for all the suggestions and alternatives. The pack is built using relatively large 80Ah cells (cells, not paralleled cell groups), so even the slightest mismatches in capacity result in the need to balance for a bit, especially when the charging current is on the larger side. So for the other...

Chargery BMS balancing

Folks, Has anyone been able to get Chargery BMS to balance reliably ? It seems like the BMS unit heats up so quickly that most of the time balancing is not active at all. I have BMS16T and BMS24T, and the first one does a bit better, but the second one gets hot just from sitting around (probably som...

Re: TIG torch for battery spot welding

You can't couple generators together like that - they have no ability to synchronize their waveform. LOL that is a dirt common feature now on dozens of brands. Honda calls theirs Companion https://powerequipment.honda.com/generators/generator-parallel-capability Other advantages besides all-purpose...

Re: TIG torch for battery spot welding

If not then my preference would be a general purpose genset would be a general purpose one, say a Honda eu2200i or two coupled together if necessary. Or the 240V equivalent, better for pumping high amp AC-DC chargers for the battery banks. You can't couple generators together like that - they have ...

Re: TIG torch for battery spot welding

What would be a good petrol powered unit to get that 150A max off-grid? 150A that's at the welding voltage around 10-15V, so not a crazy amount of power to worry about, under 2000W at the input. For structural aluminum work you're probably better off with the MIG (spool gun). Does that mean there a...

Wow seems like a solid way to go for solid copper handling high amps! What would be a good petrol powered unit to get that 150A max off-grid? Also looking to do structural aluminum welding and ideally also handle high-current charging of large storage banks, worst case feed mains-style AC to AC-DC ...

Re: TIG welding battery strips

With a resistance weld, the heat propagates out from the interface of the two surfaces being welded. With TIG, it propagates from a melt puddle that has come through from the other side of the connecting strip. A resistance weld can melt all the way through (with a milliseconds-long duration), but ...

Re: TIG welding battery strips

I don't think so. First of all, much or most of the heat from a soldering iron is discharged elsewhere, whereas almost all the heat of welding is dumped first into the workpiece. How much heat would make you happy ? That's the thing about Tig - it's one of the most adjustable processes. Not only yo...

Re: TIG welding battery strips

[ ... ] You forget the need for a gas bottle! Has always been the main drawback of shielded arc welding in my opinion. Full gas bottle (argon) is like $300 for 250cf (MANY hours of welding), refills are about $50-60. Good Tig welder is easily $3000... so no need to overemphasize the gas as an obsta...

Curtis 1236SE programming with Curtis programmer

Folks,

Hooked up Curtis 1313 handheld programmer to Curtis 1236SE supplied with HPEVs motor kit, it immediately goes into the error state. My only suspicion is the firmware is outdated on the programmer and it doesn't understand the controller's protocol. Has anyone seen this before ? Thanks!

A TIG-welder is clearly able to generate enough energy to blow up an 18650 cell, but they are adjustable, and if a very low setting can work well for pure copper, I want to know the energy setting and model of welder. If it turns out to be a bad idea, I want to see pics of the carnage... Dedicated ...

Re: LEM DHAB hall effect sensors

Hi cricketo, Did you find an alternative to DHAB DHAB S/133? No, I ended up buying S/133 through a distributor in Canada. If TinyBMS folks were a bit more friendly (I asked, they refused), they could have easily exposed the sensor range as a variable in the UI - there are lots of electrically compa...

Yikes. In your house? Under wooden shelves? I STRONGLY suggest you move that system to a shed outside. That way a dropped wrench will only burn down the shed, not your house. There is a number of reasons why moving the system elsewhere isn't feasible, at least at this time. But also everything is b...
