Re: Bosch mid drive with vesc controller

In reply to limbs query ; the version i was working is the rare one built for a back pedal braked rear hub and has no freewheel so the kick on was a real problem, for one with a built in freewheel a lower sensor polling frequency and or slower power roll off ramp would be fine. Thanks for the reply...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Thanks, My packs are all 58.6v fully charged, anyone tried it on this level ? Not sure about the M500, but the M600 has definitely been run on 52v. I think, however, that some of the more recent firmwares prevent it from running at above 58?v or something like that, think there's more information e...

Re: How do you size the right Mid Drive?

I don't have any experience of different powered mid drives, just a 250w Bosch system, but seeing as no one else has answered so far. I ride with only one arm, plus other health conditions, which that mean I don't have much energy, but I mange to ride pretty much everywhere I want to in Tenerife, wh...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

No way 550 USD includes import duties. When importing fully assembled e-bikes from China to the EU, the anti-dumping and countervailing duty is usually 79.3%. Frey isn't on the list of companies that enjoy reduced duty rate https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:02019R0073-201901...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Ah, that's good news thanks, I was a bit confused as their Alibaba listing quotes around 760 USD for shipping regardless of where in the world you select for delivery. It also lists all of the different options to all Countries as DAP, not DDP, but I guess these must only be a loose guide and the gi...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

I think a big part of the Frey 'shipment cost' is import/customs fees based on the value of the product ($348 vs $3500+). I would be very interested to know whether or not Frey's shipping charges do include import duties (UK/Europe specifically) but, all of the services that Frey seem to offer via ...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Frey's attitude to helping seems pretty poor; maybe I'll give it a miss! I want to be fair to Frey. They seem to be working hard to establish a foothold in North American and European markets. We have bought a total of 5 bikes from them. With the exception of an optional seat upgrade, everything ar...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

I've had problems from the get-go with the calibration on my Frey M600, and have asked Frey to help me with obtaining the BESST tool, which I offered to buy. No luck, they do not want to even discuss it. And as to my problem, basically the way the two responses translate to English are: Life isn't ...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

I don’t understand how to read the display showing amps. Flatten the battery? If that means am I using/depleting power from the battery, the answer is yes. Yes, that's what I meant. You said that it felt like the motor wasn't adding any assistance, so I thought I'd ask. Does it use as much power fr...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

I just got a Frey AM1000. Nice bike, but barely climbs hills that my partner easily passes me on using her Radcity Stepthrough....my Frey just crawls, feels like there’s no battery at all. Full charge and starting with a semi-cool motor, I’m weighing in at 180 lbs. Am climbing 800 ft in the course ...

I don't have the time to read the whole of that thread, but having a quick scan though it, it appears that someone may have had problems with their battery; I was already going to suggest that you consider upgrading the battery to one with decent, branded cells. If you get one of those in the listi...

Re: 48V 500W vs 48V 1000W geared hub motor?

The cells are unlikely to be rated even 10a max, but you will be drawing 10a+resistance losses from them, with the 48v battery, each cells sees 8a max. You may wish to check your calculations, I make it 5.5 amps max draw per cell for 14S4P & 4.4 amps max for 14S5P (+resistance in both cases). Y...

Re: 48V 500W vs 48V 1000W geared hub motor?

Thank you, I'll order 52V 19Ah casette motor version of it! I'll think about that 4 amp charger but 19 Ah is so plenty of battery that not sure if I need faster charger. No problem. The battery will only take that long to charge from empty, but don't forget, at that price, the will only be Chinese ...

MXUS kit has 52V battery: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000258829938.html so it would be better choice? Perfect! Basically a 52v battery will make it run nearly 8% faster; if you ignore wind resistance and other drag. It states that the controller is rated @ 22 +/- 1 amp, so it will draw max of ...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Reading this https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/anti-dumping-duty-measures I would say that dumping tax does not apply as, I assume that Frey sell the bikes for the same price in China. Import duty at around 4.5% would come to around 200 USD, but I would be very surprised if you don't get cha...

Would be good if you could please Andy, as there seems to be a bit of contradiction here, but I guess that it is possible that different firmwares behave differently.

Re: Cycle Analyst V3 preview and first beta release

Does anyone know if it's possible to set different speed limits for PAS and throttle? Not directly. You could create a preset for throttle use only, and a preset for PAS use only, and different speed limits/etc on each, and switch between them. The switching can be made automatic-ish by putting a s...

Re: Bosch mid drive with vesc controller

Thanks for the great information presented in this thread @Mechhead, I am considering doing similar to my Bosch Gen 2, but the main reason is that I want to add a throttle, for occasional use. One of the main reasons for wanting to do this, is that I want to use the throttle to fill in, for a couple...
