Re: Maxarya Ray 2 Semi Recumbent w/high efficiency mid drive

I can see how the front of that fairing could contribute to added drag.. especially near the butt.
There's also increased frontal area around his shoulder, which is bad.

..yet it still provided some improvement.

I love the magic spell they cast to get the FDA off their back at the end of the listing after making health claims that would be illegal to make here.

There are some very wide mirrors out there which show a side and rear view very well. https://www.amazon.com/Rally-Panoramic-5-Panel-Rearview-91515/dp/B000CPIH1C/ref=sxin_9?ascsubtag=amzn1.osa.4f57f16b-4122-487f-a9ed-069ca08b5041.ATVPDKIKX0DER.en_US&creativeASIN=B000CPIH1C&cv_ct_cx=wink+mirr...

Re: Maxarya Ray 2 Semi Recumbent w/high efficiency mid drive

I don't want to go so far as to enclose the sides of the bike no matter how much benefit that would bring. I want the bike to be an example of practical aerodynamics and design much like the angle taken on the Tesla Model 3. But a fairing mounted partially or fully behind the handlebar would do a mu...

Re: Safest metabolism booster? -and chewing vitamin B12 is way better (page down)

Multivitamins contain cyanocobalamin, which has about a 0% absorption rate. Methylcobalamin has an absorption rate of a few percent depending on the individual. Chewing or consuming the vitamin alone makes very little difference. Cobalamin, the biologically active form, which is present in animal me...

Re: Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.

Delete both and replace with cameras with high brightness screens inside. Pretty much every state legally requires a mirror on the driver side, so i don't want to go that far. I spend a lot of time in the right lane, so being able to rely on what i'm seeing to the left of me is pretty important. Th...

Re: Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.

Yeah, i may end up going with a camera to replace the passenger side mirror. Not sure if i need it or not. It's been 36 hours and the RTV to fill the motor mounts is still drying because we're having a sudden cold spell. I do spend the majority of my time in the right lane and the car has a huge bli...

Re: Safest metabolism booster? -and chewing vitamin B12 is way better (page down)

Chewing b12 is better because we have enzymes that secrete digestive aids for b12 and other vitamins when chewing meat. It's part of the overly complex process of absorbing B12. Unless that B12 is methylcobalamin, you're getting nothing out of it though. If you're getting methylcobalamin, you're abs...

Nice article.
That Nobe next looks pretty nicely streamlined and i could probably go for it..

Vanderhall is a 20 min drive away from me and i've been thinking of giving them a visit to see if i can get my hands on a motorless model.

Re: Nobe 3-wheel EV car

Quite a shame that they ignored using a less steep windshield angle.. and those headlights are an aerodynamic disaster too. Maybe not all aspects of vintage car designs should be carried over. Could have had another 20 miles of range by truly streamlining it. I've looked at these autocycles since th...

Re: Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.

The passenger mirror was deleted ( legal in Utah; expect a few arguments with cops as a result, but let's see how bad it is ) and i've got a RTV filled motor mount insert curing as we speak.. img.jpg In starting to tear apart the interior, i see that there's hundreds of metal bolts and screws doing ...

Re: Maxarya Ray 2 Semi Recumbent w/high efficiency mid drive

I'm very aware of karl at zzipper :) Glad to hear that a non-steering mounted fairing works well.. i think on this bike since i want to be conservative, i will stick to a steering mounted fairing but custom design it with minimizing cross wind interference in mind. Anyway, the bike is back together ...

Re: Rans Stratus - Recumbent

..honestly another aspect to consider is that without rear suspension, you're gonna have a bad time. I'd aim for a slower top speed. More like 30mph.

..at that point, the leaf 35mm is overkill.
The Shengyi SX2 or a 30mm DD starts to look a lot better at that point.

Re: Rans Stratus - Recumbent

I'd strongly recommend not going with a front motor, as ~80% of your weight is on the rear wheel. You will have severe issues with traction and funny steering on a bike with this design. Go rear, and try out a leafmotor 35mm "1500w" motor ( closer to 2000w rated in reality ). ps.. front di...

Re: Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.

i installed a K&N filter and it was a big mistake. Saw a drop in low end torque.. and a hypermiler spends a majority of their time at lower RPM.. it's causing me to shift later than usual. It's gotta go. I also found a rubber(?) stick on spoiler kit.. which i plan to use to make an underbody spo...

Just an update on my air filter journey. KhksNe5Irac CD8NiZj_KHQ I'm still relying on the expensive austin air filter primarily until i build my own version of the box fan that includes a carbon filter. Wouldn't a bike that's half the weight or less be a better bike for uphill? why build a heavier one if you have poor power delivery ( creating more of an uphill problem ). There's a lot of recumbent bikes that can hold up to 300lbs out there. I see how movable pieces can be a test bed for ideas and ...

The firewall is fairly close to the strut towers on this car, so the upper strut bar didn't produce a world of difference, but it was noticeable. :) I'd certainly like a rear one.. and sway bars if i can get 'em.
