Re: leaning trike cargo bike front end kit

I think your idea is great, and would even love to adapt one to one of my semi recumbent bikes. But why would it be so expensive?

Re: best shock type for rear hubs?

Back to OP's question. A heavy hub motor will always make any type of suspension you put on the bike perform poorly due to the extreme amount of unsprung weight. Very expensive rear suspension can help counter this, but it's impossible for a bike to have the floaty feel it should with a hub motor. Q...

Re: best shock type for rear hubs?

Proper spring coils offer superior suspension performance to air shocks -- not just on a heavish rear hub, but on any hub. Air shocks are only used for weight and cost reasons. When was the last time you looked for rear shocks? even the most high end ones typically use air, and are also the most ex...

Re: Oil cooling a motor with transformer oil/dielectric fluid - the next frontier?

I'm surprised that nobody has played with this stuff still. I tipped Justin off to the existrance of isoparaffin oils and as far as i know, he hasn't gotten down and dirty into it. It may be suitable to add a lubricant additive which is compatible with the materials. A few drops of PTFE ( teflon ) c...

Re: Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

When I filled the Aikema motor with ATF I noticed the consumption with full throttle and wheel in the air went down from 1.1A to 0.9A, so at least the no-load efficiency is a lot better. I had to turn down the electric freewheel current by the same amount. That's quite impressive! Documented fretti...

Re: Any way to verify AH on a battery?

You'd have to buy it, install it, ride it with a watt hour meter attached, and find out the total amp hours after the fact. Not a super precise way to do things, but close enough. If they lied about the capacity, shipping it back to China would be cost prohibitive and you'd end up ripped off, like m...

Re: Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

I'd like to see your long term results with encapsulation. That's a very interesting idea. We'll find out how successful you are at the year mark.. it seems to be time, not miles, that destroy components which are vulnerable to ATF. Yes, how good of a lubricant is opticool? we don't know. They don't...

Re: Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.

Okay, the stiffened motor mounts are cured after 4 days, and i finally drove the car. MPG Gains! With the passenger side mirror removed, i got 68.8mpg on the way to my lady's house, with no wind. This is an all time record for that route. I notice a tiny difference in acceleration at 60mph also. I'm...

Re: I accidently connected my Lyen controller in reverse polarity...

I've done this before with an infineon clone. I heard a pop, reversed the polarity, and it worked.
I was shocked at how it had a safety mechanism against stupid built into it.

Good thing your fix was on the easy side.

Yeah our members have good feedback at times. I've been collecting the good feedback and think we should be asking our members how we are doing and what we can improve on a regular basis as a rule. In the past i think i may have been a little dismissive and i'm changing that. I take good feedback in...

Yeah i'd watch that shit. You could probably get away with using cheap recycled electric car batteries too. Lots of Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt batteries being sold in modules for nearly nothing out there on eBay.

Re: Destruction Derby Car Build

I think the idea is cool but wouldn't have any leads on car hub motors. I know they exist but never entertained them because the high unspring weight would make a car ride terribly.

But ride quality isn't important here. :)

Some Opticool formulations are designed specifically to be used in transformers which have materials like wood (yeah, wood!), nylon, other...

Re: Anybody buy the Ebikeling 3,000 watt 45mm kit ?

A motor like that has such gigantic regenerative braking potential that you could get away with not using mechanical brakes in the rear at all. Unless you have offroading to do, because with most controllers, regenerative braking is an on/off switch, not variable.

Car drivers don't need my help to disgrace themselves, and most seem to have no shame. About a month ago, I went to get my second vaccine shot, and I waited in a line for the better part of an hour with thousands of other people who were behaving patiently, courteously, and considerately is. QS motors' offerings are going to be way too small for what you're after.

If you're looking for cheap, you may want to look at cloud EV's offerings:

Re: Rans Stratus - Recumbent

Yes but it costs you 25-100w to 'freewheel pedal', depending on speed, wheel size, and motor choice. If you do a lot of hilly riding then a DD is a pretty good choice for braking on the way down and recuperating some of the momentum energy. If you use a 28mm wide 9C clone, commonly sold as a 750w mo...

I love how small that is. They must be using a lot of reductions and spinning the motor up to extreme RPM if they can make that sort of power from such a tiny unit. Yamaha makes some amazing stuff. Sure is a lot nicer than the ~200lb brushed motors used in conversion, lol. Why not? I guess drivers a...

I've mentioned that we'll have something li...
