Re: How to drive ebike using outrunner?

Several people have put a second drive chain on the left side of the bike, driving from the motor to a sprocket mounted to the 6 bolt holes for the disc brake. Obviously the sprocket has to be on a flange that moves it inward slightly, and the disc ends up moving outwards slightly, so it would depe...

Re: Building many smaller A123 packs (NO BMS) and add them together

2v Maybe the cliff that you already fell off of try 2 6v or zero. 3.50v -2 60v Typo sorry fixed. My bad, I misread the chart. Though if you were to pull 40 amps, the discharge curve sits pretty flat at 2.6 for most of your usage. Your alarm would be buzzing the whole time. I think 2.5 is right abou...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

As for wasteful, the savings are still Al and worth is weight so it is not waste. As for engineering, hard core design often tend to be made from billet. I am no engineer but I certain there is good reasons for that. After all it has been done for 3 decades or more. Stronger, lighter maybe? Better ...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

But I think it's a pretty cool motor. I agree; but starting out with a 3.6kg solid billet of Al to form what is essentially a 400gm tube, rather than starting with (say) a ~1kg piece of tube , just seems wasteful. I can't see any good engineering reason for it. I'm guessing it's because you need an...

Re: Building many smaller A123 packs (NO BMS) and add them together

You would want the voltage alarms to be configurable. Those A123 cells cells are good until about 2 volts before they drop off a cliff. I would think most lipo voltage monitors would trigger much before 2 volts.

Thanks for sharing your setup. I may have to try it out.

Can you explain what you mean by this?

Re: HPC 1200w Bafang bbso2

Just a heads up, that is going to be a tough sale considering that a brand new BBSO2 kit is $400 from Luna. They will also "hot rod" program it to do 1200 watts for free. Anyways, best of luck. It's a great kit regardless.

Re: Cordless Tool Packs (DeWalt 60V in Particular)

It's easier to have one pack of the same voltage and more than enough amperage hour that you need then multiple packs that must be all of the same voltage all the time. Last chance for trouble. 36v or above battery. Do you want a battery hobby or a ez running ebike. Yup, that's why I was hoping to ...

Re: Ultimate BBSHD Grin Phase Runner FOC 3000W

Decided to convert my Phaserunner BBSHD bike to a single speed (28T front, 20T rear) for better chainline and simplicity. I've only had a chance for one test ride, but it seems like it can't take WOT off the line like it could before (36T front, 16T rear). That is really odd. So you have lowered th...

Re: Ultimate BBSHD Grin Phase Runner FOC 3000W

I'm curious how the stock BBSHD gets around this issue? Is it always slightly engaged or is the throttle programmed to engage at low torque prior to ramping up? Matt I hope we are talking about the same issue. My understanding is that because the Phaserunner is a current controller as opposed a vol...

Re: Ultimate BBSHD Grin Phase Runner FOC 3000W

Anyone here have a recommendation for dealing with motor "judder" or "stutter" that occurs with the BBSHD/Phaserunner combo when resuming throttle after coasting? From what I've gathered reading around here it isn't trivial to solve. Best suggestion I saw was from Justin and rec...

Re: Compact Field Oriented Controller, ASI + Grin, limited r

I got it working. So I went back to the other battery pack that was just a hair under 84 volts and went through a few rounds of unplugging the battery, plugging it back in, disconnected the USB TTL cable to the PR a few times, reconnected, then was able to auto tune. So I auto tuned using the slight...

Re: Compact Field Oriented Controller, ASI + Grin, limited r

I'm running the Phase Runner on a BBSHD with a CA V3. With a 14S pack, everything runs great. Auto tune ran with no problems. But when I try a 21S pack and turn the throttle, I get nothing. I tried autotune again, and I keep getting "motor not detected! please ensure that all 3 phases are conne...

Re: Compact Field Oriented Controller, ASI + Grin, limited r

If using the phaserunner to power an RC motor (Astro 3215), will there be any concerns of ripple currents if I'm running at the ragged edge of 90 volts? Or is there some internal mechanism to protect against that? I know the Castle Creations guys add extra caps when they're running close to the 50 ...

Re: Compact Field Oriented Controller, ASI + Grin, limited r

I just installed this on a BBSHD. If I'm coasting without any motor or pedal power, then engage the throttle, the motor spins up to almost full speed before it clunks and the freewheel engages. I assume this is just an artifact of current control vs voltage control where it always wants to spin at f...

Re: Motors, batteries and propane scooter.

6 Dewalt 36V battery. A123 LiFePO4 cells. All packs work. They've been modded to directly tap the cells inside. Does this mean you are bypassing the internal BMS, but you are still able to charge through the Dewalt charger? How many amps can you reliably pull through this set up? I think the intern...
