I like my sony.

I drag files into a folder and it figures it out from there.
No software required... love it :)

Re: Shimano Total Electric Power System (STEPS)

If they made a more powerful version of this, i'd pick it over the lightweight/low power build i'm doing anyday.. I like the sleeper effect, the integration, and the no hassle of the whole system.

But it will probably be cost-prohibitive. So i'll take my $700 10ah 37v build instead :)

Re: store bought or home made?

I went on Golden Motors.ca and did the build my own kit and it came out to $1095 (USD like the other stuff on the site?) and that's without a bike but they also sell their ebikes too. EDIT I'll have to run this build thing again as 'the best kit on GM' only comes out to $788 so I must be doing some...

Re: Battery help for a semi-informed beginner

^-- what he said. iCharger + zippy flightmax is what i'm going with. You can balance charge two 5s packs with the 1010b+, which is pretty damn convenient. That's why i selected that voltage. They also make some 10s packs, which seem overly expensive.. but they are something to consider for the pure ...

Re: store bought or home made?

I second that; i'm going to be in for a total of $800 ( $100 for a used bike, $700 for parts ) for a bike with power output similar to a store bought ~$2000 ebike.. On pure price alone, there is no competition. If you are a geeky guy you also end up with a better product since these ebikes are still...

I enjoy the pioneering aspect. It's like hotrodding's prime days of trying new ideas and experimenting (I wish I was born in the 1930-40s sometimes lol). Anyone with a good idea they are willing to invest a relatively modest amount of cash towards is able to press into uncharted waters of LEV devel...

I have straight bars and i don't like those either. I have a trek 930 which is pretty much the same as yours, but with some high end components.

Anyway i ordered all the stuff.. waiting.. waiting... :)

Re: China's Future

Peak oil is going to rape them, IMHO. All it would take is for the cost of that 'bunker fuel' they use for shipping things to the USA to rise 1.5x-2.0x and suddenly they're no longer competitive! Then they have to start making quality products to compete like Japan does.. Then we can have our crappy...

I'm about 220lb so you probably have an advantage :)

I may head that way, haven't explored much of northern Oregon, and if the eBike is stable, i'll probably take it such long distances :)

Re: $700 ebike build plan. Opinions?

I think i'm gonna try to find something locally first for the power charger. I learned about 5s cells and the 10s charger. This means i can balance charge 2 packs at the same time, which i dig. This is also cool because it's 37v, and the LVC is set to 30v on the motor controller. So i don't have to ...

Ahh... your stubborn-ness is amazing :)

More panels = more dead weight to lug around outside of peak sunlight hours.

This is a good idea if you plan on operating this thing only 3 hours a day and are okay with going 5-10mph.
Would be more efficient to walk :)

The name, "Con His Motor" is probably just an unfortunate coincidence, and not some secretive jab by the owner at his potential clients  , but it does show a lack of attention to detail by the owner to chose that for a name. Understatement of the year, have you seen this? http://...

Don't go in circles, just do an EV conversion or ride an eBike and use the eBike for all your short trips :) I have a ~30mpg car and i don't like it either. Re: Adding regen/electric to ICE car

Not worth it. Mild hybrid systems do not pay for themselves at all. There is also the challenge of making basically custom axles for that specific car; that's a pain in the ass. It would cost you less money to do an electric conversion with a used forklift motor ( sometimes you can find these free )...
