Re: Electric kart

Thanks for that info Luigi, will try that after the race :) Finished rendering video also yesterday, but forgot to link it here. You can clearly see that in the middle of the last lap 10th cell voltage dropped below 3v. Also we drove the best time ever and around 1s faster than with old frame 43,245...

Re: Electric kart

Pushed my lipo battery to the limit to test can I race 14 laps with it. We raced 4 laps and then changed front wheel width to get better grip turning on to corners. And then raced 11 laps until I saw that minimum cell voltage wen under 3v and then we stopped. So conclusion is that I have to top the ...

How did the race go?
It is this sunday :) 16.May 2021 (In Estonia week is from monday to sunday)
But will do a test today evening on the racetrack and hopefully can render video and some graphs today before midnight.

Finally finished installing everyting over the weekend. There will be race this sunday and bought myself a brand new set of wheels to see what times this new frame can give me :) Tablet is now behind the wheel. It was very hard to find windows tablet with full USB port. But finally I found on in ali...

Whats the range increase, 50 km total there about ?
About 35km with one battery. Old brushed motor and controller are ineffective. And its heavy also.
30km/h is max with 36v battery.

ANT bms has hall effect sensor input under the LCD screen. Information is in the manual, you need to solder the wire there by yourself :)

Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

200J (over 1600A and 100ms) If you can get that 1600A up closer to 2000A you can probably use a lot less joules and get pulse time also down and not melt fuse. With copper pulse that long just heats the copper all around the weld and not just the spot weld. Thats no problem with my supercapacitor p...

Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

It looks like 26P, yes? That adds up when you say 8A per cell, and 150A peaks for the pack. I apologize for not looking at the pictures more closely before. No its 18p20s pack using 2000mAh cells that i have tested with 10A continious discharge (and concluded that 8A is ok for continious). Since th...

Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

0.15 copper would be an improvement for high-amp cells, but 0.20mm copper (equal to 0.80mm nickel) is problematic. How many pack amps and amps per cell do you want? The pack will be around 100A-150A continious (~8A per cell). But I have 3 separate banks and I need to make interconnections between t...

Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

It seems that using kWeld with 200J (over 1600A and 100ms) is not ment to be. I have already blown 3pcs of 300A fuses. I need these settings to weld 0,2mm copper to cells (and can do it only when I split the copper). And yes, I'm using 0,1mm nickel on top of copper. With 20J or even 60J there is no ...

Re: Electric motorcycle from leftovers

Fitting 18p20s of cells is challenging. Need to do it in 3 rows but then connection from row to row will be with multiple (four) 12awg wires not nickel or etc. I need odd number of series in these three rows sitting next to each other to use folded nickel, but can do only 6 and 8 and 6 :( Pack.jpg T...

Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

You can use 1000A when you only weld 0,1mm nickel that has this splitting. I figured out that I need 200J with my DIY ultracap module (calibrated to 1800A with 11,8V) to weld 0,3mm nickel good. And I think reason was that I needed to weld it to A123 ANR 26650 positive side and I needed to split it a...

Re: Battery Pack Design

I bought new cells to my kart pack. So they are rated 50A continious, but rather 30A for my opinion. But they can do 60A burst for sure. As I know 6AWG is the largest you can use with QS8-S (if you want to use this plastic cover for soldered contacts). I just today finished my 12V 6p4s A123 emergenc...

Re: Battery Pack Design

nuxland, I saw you have 4AWG wire for the ends of the battery packs. How did those do? I was intrigued on how you curled the ends of the copper around the wire and most likely crimped those or? I would like this pack to be able to be removed for other projects if need be or even if I wanted to do m...

stop charging or etc when temps or cell voltages out of range aka HVC functionality, that does not necessarily need to be provided by a full-time connected BMS, since it is only needed while charging Zeva can however control charge regulation via CAN, Elcon for example > zeva BMS units themself onl...

So between each pack, you used the x90 connectors as well? Are those wires soldered to the nickel strips? Sorry for the dumb questions, just want to be as clear as I can be. Re: Battery Pack Design

I built my pack so that series connection between cellgroups are at least the same 35mm2 as my cables between battery and controller. So in my case, i used 0,5mm thick copper and 10mm wide (5mm2 per cell) and as I have 10P it is 50mm2 copper between cells. But I was also aiming for 600A current :) B...

Re: Spot welding A123 26650 cells

What nickel you used for welding? I tried 0,25mm nickel and could not get it to weld to positive side, even with 250J using K-Weld with my 11,8V ultracaps delivering 1761A within 166ms. It sticks but I can tear it apart easy with hand. But then I splitted the nickel and voilla, welding two separate ...

Re: Spot Welding Copper Strips to 18650 Battery Cells

Why’s there such a huge gap in welders where we can get a welder for 230$ (Kweld)that will do .1mm copper but need to spend way more to get something to do .4? Cant they just make a welder with more/bigger bits on the board? That is actually a great question. I’ve often wondered the same thing. You...
