Re: Bringing Ebike from US to Portugal

You are not shipping from one state to another within the US. International shipping has strict safety rules, but it doesn’t mean there aren’t shippers who cheat. Any bike that is in a case or a box can be transported on a plane, but gassers must be empty and EV batteries removed. Shipping gas or ba...

Re: Anyone else here feel guilty?

What have you done to them, that would justify feeling guilty? Maybe you feel that you had betrayed the lycra crowd? Or do you feel guilty for yourself, for being a lazy ass not peddling anymore? None of the above are valid. A rider has no reasons to feel guilty to ride. Or, put a tail sign on your ...

Re: How to chose the right dc plug for charger...

3 Amps is next to nothing. You don’t really need connectors, just twist the wires together.

Seriously, any kind of connectors will do, preferably matching the wire size to crimp, but not so important with solder.

Put it in a bicycle transport case and register it as extra luggage at the airport. Only, ship the battery separately via a courrier/transport company who will conform with the rules. UPS, FedEx, DHL, .... they all have a license to ship batteries and people to fill the list of requirements.

Re: These 250W ebikes (toys) are very popular

Those Jetson bikes are so cheap that people are buying it at department stores when shopping for something else. The stores make a display in a center alley with a pyramid of boxes and a huge special price tag. Most are purchased as a gift for kids. Then there is an escalade effect, when many can be...

Re: Full suspension bikes compatible with a frame battery

They are not easy to make custom torque plates for, but they sure can take high power since I had done over 35000 miles (on and off road) on one that was fed 25 kw acceleration bursts everyday, and a 60 mph top speed. I see this posted on the local Craigslist; $1200. Looks like a good candidate for...

If it uses a standard bottom bracket you could see about mounting the mid-drive there fairly easily.

Even if there isn’t, a common BB could be fitted there pretty easily.

Re: Geared Hub vs Mid-Drive?

Mid drives don’t like long chain line. So, unless you have the fabrication skills to build a custom mid drive closer to the wheel, a low KV geared hub is your best choice to make a slow climber trike.

The only Specialized suspension bikes that I have had were all Demo 8 DH racing bikes of various years, and none of them had a Horst suspension (see pics below). Re: 1500w direct drive hub motor or 750w geared hub motor

dd and geared hubs can’t be compared with equal wattage. A DD hub rated 1500w can be fed bursts of 10 kw, making it an acceleration and climbing beast as compared to a geared hub. They just don’t have the same purpose. The geared hub is for a bike that you are going to pedal and expect a long range ...

Re: Shimano STEPS vs Bafang BBS02 vs Bafang Ultra?

Mone of the retro fit solutions can compare with the latest Shimano BB drives. Well, they are better for power and speed, but far behind in terms of riding experience. The reason why the OEM BB drives are so protected, is that their development is made possible only because of the bicycle manufactur...

Re: Derailleur/hanger compatibility questions

Derailer mount is standard. Any derailer would fit the mount, and it would be very unlikely to find one that doesn’t. The purpose of various different derailers is not related to the mount, only chain/cogs and shifters. A very large low gear cog would likely require a long cage derailer. Derailers a...

Re: Laser Cut M12 Torque Arms ??

Those are safe only for low power. You need to cut them yourself in thicker steel if you build high power. Cut them off a piece of 4’’ angle stock scrap and make the axle hole a tight fit specifically for your motor axle, one on each side. The job may look complicated but really, it is pretty easy t...

Re: Full suspension bikes compatible with a frame battery

All FS frames that have enough triangle space for a battery, don’t have a suspension that is suitable to control the rebound of a 20+ lbs hub motor. If you build with one of them you need to limit yourself to small 16- lbs DD hubs or geared hubs. If you build high power/speed, better fitting your ba...

Yep, but most bicycle rims and tires have a bead hook, that is not the case with motorcycles. You can see here that only the most recent tubeless specific bicycle rims and tires are beadless. And, they can’t be swapped. https://cdn-0.gravelcyclist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/ENVEHooklessRimsExpla...

Do you really mean your tires are less than one inch wide, and you are riding off road ?

I guess they are 1.95 inch if they are moped tires, which is not bad at all for riding nice trails.

Nature had granted us with a large variety of butt shapes, sizes, and malformations. There are some very weird saddles out there, probably designed by people who ha...

Re: If you ever wondered "Will a Shinko 714 stay on the wheel after a tube blows?"

Motorcycle tires belong on motorcycle rims if you ask me. Even when the size is matching a bicycle rim, the bead seat profile isn’t and that is a major issue at speed or hard cornering. Bicycle, motorcycles, and cars rims have each their own specific bead standard, and their tire beads profiles are ...

You would be surprised at how stable it is at speed! I certainly was. In stock-ish configuration, at low speeds, the handling was super sketchy. Once you got going it was better but still a bit too twitchy. Once I replaced the oem rigid fork with the moderately taller suspension one and stuck the s...

You were riding 40 mph downhill on a Giant Revive ? :D

I am roughly 30 years older than you, yet not old enough to give up speeding the mountain trails on a DH bike. But, even 40 years ago I wouldn't have been crazy enough to ride 40 mph on a Giant Revive.

No matter how you find that regen is doing good, it is the front that makes a short braking distance, and a huge difference with rear braking.
