What's with this censoring nonsense happening on the forum?
In the past week a member who has had problems with multiple well established members acted like a complete lunatic for all to see. One very respected member even copied some of the offending posts in his own reply that was soley to keep evidence, so the offender couldn't erase the evidence by editing his own posts. The thread was locked, which is fine, though the only person warranting a lock was the OP himself.
THE PROBLEM is that the thread has been whitewashed with the lunatic's ranting totally erased as if he never did anything. Many quite inoffensive posts were deleted. One of my own posts was edited without my consent or without contacting me.
This is something new on ES and is quite unacceptable.

This is a common trend whenever you give information out it sometimes gets taken the wrong way and knickers get in a twist next thing u nw personal insults are flying from two people that have never met and only tryed to share an opinion with the other/group.
I missed the thread in question but been in two locked tesla threads in past few weeks and admit I was having a joke around talking about world issues and how tesla is placed around them but it's clear not all wanted to hear it specially the new cybertruck, some say opinions are like an arsehole everyone's got one and you should keep them to yourself but I'm feeling gay and mother allways taught me to share so free speech within reason i say I don't set out to offend but if it happens due to touchy feely people then that csnt be helped I can't gauge for every sensitive soul.

Re: What's with this censoring nonsense happening on the forum?
This is my fault. And please don't blame any of the other moderators for the recent forum moderation occasionally being applied with a broad brush, as opposed to a scalpel.
Sometimes its a judgement call. I am hopeful that aggressive action on my part will reduce personal attacks, regardless of whether those attacks are deserved or not.
Sometimes, the most experienced posters (like yourself) are very passionate about some aspect of the information that is provided by you. It's natural to feel offended if someone disagrees, or posts something in their own thread that opposes what you have posted in your own thread. Please trust the reader to correctly determine who is right.
Conflicts will continue as long as humans are posting here. It seems to be our nature. The job of a moderator covers many things. I often put effort into weighing-out my actions. Did I do enough? Did I do too little?
Posts that may require moderation are often simply moved to the moderator section, so others can also be made aware of conflicts, and provide their opinion. If you are afraid that your posts have been deleted, rest assured that they are most likely preserved, and can be moved back if they hold some valuable nugget of research.
Unfortunately, the few moderators that we have all have jobs and families, so arriving at a quorum of agreement can often take some time, and for that delay, I apologize.

Re: What's with this censoring nonsense happening on the forum?
Ooh, I missed it mostly. Soorrrrrrryyy! (NOT!)
There's hardly a short leash around here. The threads of this are mostly still there, after all. What I had seen left me wondering if a certain new poster was a certain banned former poster. But I have no way of knowing
The thing to remember for those of you who enjoy taking advantage of the latitude they give the barking, snarling dogs is how easy it is to say it's okay when YOU do it, but everyone else is bad. However far you push the envelope, there'll be others coming along to push it farther and use you as their justification.

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting. . . .

Re: What's with this censoring nonsense happening on the forum?
ElectricTrump as he will always be known by me (because he responds to disagreement or jokes with outright attacks) came out of the issue smelling like a rose and getting exactly what he wanted when he was the only real perpetrator in his own thread. I'll take full responsibility for anything I ever say or type, and have no problem apologizing if I'm in the wrong, and I take real issue with my post being edited by anyone other than myself.
Back when the lunatic first joined, by PM I told him that his chosen name would be a problem for a lot of people and his threads weren't getting much action due to that name despite having some good content. He of course refused and said he thought the name was funny. My prediction proved true and after weeks his thread about what could be an interesting motor in a power range not readily available, it had only one post other than his own. That was before I posted spot on questions needing an answer to determine real motor quality. Sure I included a bit of sarcasm that since he didn't know enough to ask those questions himself that his self-proclaimed god status needed to be knocked down to demigod or less status. That's when the thread blew up with plenty of activity and the only posts with attacks and insults were from god.
Then at the end before being locked, someone affiliated with Sur-Ron said that was in fact not a Sur-Ron motor and the name should not be used, yet that has been left intact. The motor seller is actually not a parts provider to Sur-Ron and isn't even a Sur-Ron dealer. They just sell aftermarket parts and mods.
SpinningMags, I completely understand that being a moderator is a thankless and sometimes difficult position. Something needs to be done about this guy who thinks he's a god. His over-reactions and ridiculous ravings should be left for all to see. He's already bing shunned by plenty of members due to past behavior. I don't think banning is appropriate, but way back when SAFE didn't bother me enough to warrant banning. I apologize in advance for being the type to poke a bit of fun (kinda like playing with a snake...sometimes they bite), but I do realize that the written word is different than conversation, because interpretation is totally up to the reader, and things can be interpreted in a manner other than intended. Still "EletricTrump" is sticking AFAIC.
Happy holidays to all...including ElectricTrump.

Re: What's with this censoring nonsense happening on the forum?
There's always been pretty wide latitude and it's worked amazingly well compared to other forums...I think due to our common interest in an electric future. This situation was so different that I felt compelled to discuss it to make sure there wasn't some change. Hell I didn't even think the thread should have been locked, because most participants were directly trying to calm down the only offender, and my use of the nickname ElectricTrump was in no way political, only that the actions and reactions were so similar to Trumps tweeting. I'm actually a pretty staunch conservative in most ways.

You at least have to give him credit for retiring to his own thread. If I have the right guy, he did not come up smelling like a rose.
Yeah, John, I know I've made comments to new posters about over reacting to you. And believe me, I can hook you up with the thread started by a jerk who only cares about harassing me without me blowing up at them, I practice what I preach. I just say if you know the guy has an attitude about you there's no point following him to other threads.

not new atoll; you simply haven't noticed.
spheroid censorship goes back to elmweaver & morph's posts being deleted simply to appease a lone 21ply snowflake squawking 'think of the children' who has long since effed off & here we are stuck with butchered threads.

Re: What's with this censoring nonsense happening on the forum?
The holidays are over and nothing has been done that wasn't already tried before without success. Religion is strictly prohibited on the forum, that means including a religious (or sacrilegious depending upon your viewpoint) reference in every post is verboten. That means the forum name ElectricGod must be changed. I thought ElectricTrump was suitable due to common behaviors, but since that could be considered political in nature, it would be inappropriate as well.
Re: What's with this censoring nonsense happening on the forum?
Third definition of "god" in the Google online dictionary is:"an adored, admired, or influential person." Webster's has something similar:John in CR wrote: ↑Jan 01 2020 9:06pmThe holidays are over and nothing has been done that wasn't already tried before without success. It is common practice to refer to people as gods of some particular activity as in the Webster's example with no actual religious intent implied. It is merely hyperbole.3: a person or thing of supreme value

Further, religion isn't prohibited. Religious debate is.

The first part of your argument just doesn't hold water. Putting up with obnoxious behavior is something we just have to deal with sometimes on public forums. Personally, I try to abide by my own two post rule where I don't pursue a topic of heated or emotional debate for more than two posts. After that, I just drop it. Life's too short.

Turber couldn't say it any better or agree more, its new year different decade and the pettiness continues lets just agree to disagree there was no malice intention so take the situation for what it is a disagreement on a forum over what stats should be given with a motor then use of a brand name and it's lead to religion for God sake keep on track are you trying to fix an issue or discredit everything he does ?

That's the whole problem with the censorship thing. The threads were whitewashed making it impossible for anyone to gain a accurate sense of what occurred.Ianhill wrote: ↑Jan 02 2020 6:02amTurber couldn't say it any better or agree more, its new year different decade and the pettiness continues lets just agree to disagree there was no malice intention so take the situation for what it is a disagreement on a forum over what stats should be given with a motor then use of a brand name and it's lead to religion for God sake keep on track are you trying to fix an issue or discredit everything he does ?
Re: What's with this censoring nonsense happening on the forum?
I wholeheartedly agree with John in CR. Why cut away the most offensive posts, then leave that thread and all the others washed? This way readers CANNOT make their own call what is discussed and the ElectricTrump can continue to spread incorrect data.

Re: What's with this censoring nonsense happening on the forum?
No. I ignored it because it isn't relevant. That is a compound word for which the rules of capitalizing have been broken to make the two component words more obvious. But regardless, you seem to want to ignore the other point about religion not being the issue but the issue being not to engage in religious debate.
There was a fellow in the Lighwave 3D community who referred to himself as SplineGod since the '90s. Nobody seemed to confuse his online name as suggesting any religious significance. He merely used the name as a humorous/boastful reference to his particular expertise in Lightwave 3D spline modeling. It seems like this other fellow is making a similar boast and the real problem is that you just don't like it because you think it is an unwarranted boast.
https://www.lightwave3d.com/news/articl ... splinegod/
It is super easy to find these kinds of online self-references. Just pick a noun and add "god". They are very common and clearly not about religion.

I don't like the threads being moderated so heavily and threads being locked when knickers get in a twist, I think we should allow free speech in a joke fashion and allow serious talk amongst it.
I got to be honest John has more motor knowledge than I can wish for but the questions being asked are what's on the inquisitive mind and sticks get up butts with humans quite easily our emotions get the better of us and were off to the races, been a red head I suffer with short circuits

Re: What's with this censoring nonsense happening on the forum?
The bickering often overshadows the content on web forums, and that turns many people off. I have had a lot of experience with the same thing on my forum. The people without the ability to filter themselves or get along with the rest of the community will run roughshod over the community if left unchecked. I had the same issue with my web forum. Asking them to be nice doesn't work. When they aren't nice the moderators get email complaints. The moderators don't need this drama as they are busy removing spam and it takes a lot of time to clean up threads.
Spinningmagnets was very nice to have cleaned up the thread rather than just nuking the whole thing. He may not be so nice next time.

Then post only on unmoderated forums. I did for years, before the spam became so bad that they became unusable. Nowadays I appreciate moderators that prevent spam, flamewars and ranting. I moderate another board, so I have some idea of what they go through on a regular basis.

Re: What's with this censoring nonsense happening on the forum?
You can make me a moderator, i’d be happy to nuke the worst posts and ES would become a better place.
I’ve just read a thread from 2011 about users (safe?) getting kicked out for constantly posting incorrect stuff. Methods, LFP and some other guys, maybe recumpence was in that thread.
Is the force weaker within you now? I can understand oldtimers getting fed up with tedious moderating, doesn’t mean it can be ignored - i have faith in you to do the best for this great forum

Some pm:s from electricgod: Some comments from other users on the stuff that was removed: It would be nice to not have to get this crap but the moderating done so far has just cleaned up electricgods mess and encouraged him to continue.larsb wrote: ↑Jan 02 2020 8:19amI wholeheartedly agree with John in CR. Why cut away the most offensive posts, then leave this thread and all the others washed? This way readers CANNOT make their own call what is discussed and the ElectricTrump can continue to spread incorrect data.
Soon he will be the only poster here that’s not gone to sphere FB page.. Then someone has to start V is for Voltage 2.0 to get a fresh start.
I’ll upload some PM:s when i get to a computer. They will fit well in this thread.

The main reason for posting these PM:s? That’s what’s left after moderators cleaned electricgods threads from ranting, personal insults and (some of the) incorrect data.
It’s time for a change of strategy in the moderation, don’t you agree?
