New Alex 24 rim, seam line not welded. Defect?

I just got a new Alex 24 DH rim. I can see through the seam line, is this the way they make them? Was told by the vendor it may have internal rods holding it together? It's had to tell. Anyone know if this is safe to use? There isn't even any side welds or spot welds seen. You can see the light shining through from the other side in the picture.

The DM24 is a pin joint rim. It's not suppose to be welded.

Thanks, just wanted some confirmation before I waste time lacing it. Had not seen this style of connection before.
