Hey guys, had a bit of a dig around and have been unable to find much of anything where people have replaced their standard ICE petrol cap assembly with a 240/120V type setup.

Is there any sort of kit out there that makes this an easy proposition?
Most of the outside/water resistant AC plugs I'm aware of are designed to be mounted on vertical walls and RVs etc.

I've not been able to find any info on something that'd suit being mounted to the top of a tank.

Someone must have done it, anyone got any info/links?

Closest thing I could find was something like this:

I just want to plug in a standard 240v Australian plug but would consider other options if it's just way more practical to use a different kind of plug and then carry an adaptor.

It's probably easier (especially dealing with water resistance) to simply plug the hole and have a cable tucked up into the fairings but I really like the idea of just plugging into the top of the tank for some reason.

Cheers.

You can simply mount this where the filler cap used to be.
I've also seen Damien put a regular 400V plug there

Thanks for that quick response.

How does one go from that sort of plug to a standard wall plug?

Edit: I guess I need a T2 to 3pin 10amp (Australian plug: Type I) adaptor... but have had no luck finding one (yet).

Doesn't matter what country it's used for really, it's supposed to be a one-off DIY plug that looks nice and professional.
The type 2 requires a motor to lock the charging cable, if that's too much work for you can use type 1.

Type 1 is self locking, check out these links

You can add any wall plug you might have on the other side of the plug and that's it.

Well the impression I got was that this is a DIY EV project so I assumed that high power public charge points were out of the question since you mentioned 240V.

I also think you misunderstood what I meant.
If you are just charging with 240V at 2KW then any standard 240V socket in that spot would do the job just fine.

The socket that I posted simply replaces the standard 240V socket with a nice waterproof one that was also made to used in cars.
It doesn't matter if you use a socket made after the USA, EU or China standard since the car socket only plugs into your charging cable that plugs into the wall on the other end.

If you actually want to use public chargers you would need a few more parts but not too difficult to do if you have some experience with electronics.

Sorry for the confusion.

A (good looking) waterproof opening for charging in the motorcycle tank is really the primary aim of the game. If a standard motorcycle filler cap was large enough to accept a standard phase one cable into it I'd possibly look at just mounting a standard cable. Most filler caps only have small holes though and I have to then make my own mount below that and allow for water leaks etc.

I thought there'd be something better available that was mostly done instead of having to 3d print a custom fitting.

I will only be charging at home on single phase so no need for fancy connections beyond the need for water proof and hopefully something that looks nice and integrated.

Honestly I like the look of the type 2 one you linked, it looks to be what I'll go with.

I guess my current confusion stems from my ability to get from type 2/1 to a standard wall plug. Do I have to get a custom cable made up?

I thought I'd be able to find an adaptor but that doesn't seem to be the case

Called a portable EVSE, designed for EV owners to plug into home circuits when no public EVSE are available.

Maybe $2-300

The issue with the Type 2 is the interlocking, it would cost almost 200 USD for the whole set including a custom wire harness.

Ah I also tried to make a road legal electric Motorcycle but that project kinda fell apart :(
I had planned for a 3pin Speakon connector for that conversion, small and easy to mount. I don't know if I would mount it pointing up though maybe on the side like some electric Motorcycles and ebike have it, or add some cover flap.

Check it out
