Anyone on here built an enclosed motorcycle? Video clip below is of Cedric Lynch (designer of the Agni motor etc) with his enclosed bike from 2013. (bike specific info starts at 1.55)

This is one of the earliest examples I could find
and of course there is the Zero-tracer

And the beautiful NSU flying hammock..
nsu-flying-hammock-1.jpgI've been thinking about something like this for a long time - seems really logical for electric. Cedric mentions his bike can get between 150-200 miles on a 5kwh battery at 50 MPH - ( 240 - 320 km @ 80kmph)

Surely someone on here has electrified a velo pod?

I would have thought so, there are a few electric velomobiles (ie with pedals) about but there doesn't seem to be any 'motorcycles'. The more I think about it the more I think a three wheel tilting version makes more sense (which there are some) as it removes some of the engineering challenges of two wheels - somehow not as cool though

The Swiss Ecomobile has been around for an age:

That it still hasn't caught on is probably a combination of high price, and being the answer to a question nobody was asking.

I'd prefer to just buy an enclosed motorcycle then build one.

Not sure how much this would sell for or if its even suitable for 6'5" tall studs like myself.

Also, once you start to go wider then you can't split the lanes which is common is some area's and can save a ton of time.

California is the only state where lane splitting is explicitly legal.

In Utah, motorcyclists can pass between 2-lanes of traffic, but only when traffic is stopped (a practice called “filtering”). Both Oregon and Washington are considering bills that would legalize lane splitting. All other states have either banned lane splitting or simply don’t have laws addressing the issue.

It’s worth noting that lane splitting is legal in many other countries, including most European countries, and there is a push here in the United States to legalize lane splitting. For that reason, it’s important to stay up to date with legislation in your state.

yeah i agree on both points. Frankly it just looks odd. I'm sure a more aestheticly pleasing design if priced appropriately would sell much better - but doubt it would be main stream any time in the near future.

definitely would have to be narrow track. Phillip James designed a bunch of tilting vehicles at 850mm track. Worth a google.

It was replaced a decade ago by the Monotracer, and is now built in the Czech Republic, and called the Monoracer.

It is gorgeous, but still crazy expensive.

Well, there is also Craig Vetter's 100mpg project, this was building a bike that still felt like a motorcycle, could carry 4 grocery bags of cargo, could do 70mph into a 30mph headwind, and could get 100mpg. He made a streamliner Honda Helix 250 with taller gearing to achieve all that. http://craigvetter.com/pages/470MPG/Index%20to%20making%20the%20Last%20Vetter%20Fairing.html they do sell a kit to streamline your own motorcycle. With that, and a stage 3 (high voltage DC supercharging), I think a touring electric motorcycle with at least a 200 mile paper range should be possible today.

Not sure what Craig is doing these days. He had a deer headbutt him off that scooter, riding in his cul-de-sac several years ago. The head trauma left him pretty beat up. His sons may be doing something. I know they ride Zeros now. They are friends of Terry Hershner

Yeah, I'm not expecting anything from him, but it's a good thread on his website about aerodynamics, which are critical to getting a motorcycle with touring range any time soon. And his faring kit might be of use.
